So well written and developed imo
I didn’t like the first episode but I’m glad I gave it a chance
ML has the most mischievous eyes and FL has feistiness to match it . The writer does a good job of making me care about the characters and the directing is great too. The cgi isn't great and the show isn’t perfect but I’d recommend it confidently. I admit though that if you can’t understand the female lead or rationalise her decisions then you can’t enjoy it.
This situation with Su Yang is so upsetting. I understand his situation completely. Low self-esteem that comes from being too hard on yourself and comparing yourself to others. If you graduate and see your friends moving on and doing well, you start to struggle if you're not making progress, are slower at things or are just on a different path that everyone may not validate as valuable. It takes great self-confidence to be courageous like that and to accept yourself as a work in progress. That's what makes the ML so different. Plus, the ML also naturally thinks quickly on his feet and has high EQ for his age. Not everyone is born so naturally confident and if you are not like this, then all of it can be learned. Respecting the people who love you while you're going through this is paramount. In reality, Sijia is not asking anything of him, or asking him to be anything. They're young and the relationship doesn't need to be anything groundbreaking. But he hasn't found himself personally and is unsure of his worth, so he isolates himself, especially from someone who looks up to him and admires him. He thinks he must be an illusion to her and can't live up to her standards. But she has no standards and has no request for him except that he respect her too. Not cancelling their date was terrible. Yet, she was patient and generous. She's a lovely girl indeed and it's his loss. If this happened in reality, I'd tell her to give it up. He looks down on himself and thinks she's better than him so he is embarrassed and unsure around her. If he forces it and they start to date, he will be harsh with her without directly intending to because he will want to belittle her. She needs to stay away from him. He thinks he is not good enough for her yet and right now and he is right. And that is ok. Someone once said people will tell you who they are, you only need to believe it. It also means that he ties his value to external things. Even in the long run, with a different partner, it's something he will still struggle with if he never gets help for it. That day, work was hard for him. He could have told her to come over and they would eat together and exchange the gifts and he would rest. He could even have told her he just isn't ready yet and would like to put the relationship discussion to rest. That's what I would have recommended. But by avoiding it he hurt her and himself. That's why introspection is important but I guess not everyone is made the same. If you've not experienced it before he probably just seems spoiled or harsh, but not everyone has emotional regulation down. I'm not giving excuses for him, just explaining his thought process. It doesn't change that he doesn't deserve her and treated her badly. You don't have love and respect for yourself, how can you love someone else? She will do well to forget him.
