I don't think the formless moon sect was occupied by JY at that time. She's going to witness JL's backstory. Remember when JL told her that the doll can talk. It's actually her. She time travel back into that time

Look at what she actually does:
• she goes back in time again and again to save JL, even though it damages her body
• she stays with him as A’Wu, when he was just a young red fox with nothing
• she literally cuts off her own tail just to stop him from dying
• she keeps choosing him across timelines, not just once
• at one point, she even begs to be killed because she knows she’s JY’s vessel and could become dangerous

And in the end, the only way to stop everything was to prevent her birth entirely.

Those aren’t just inherited traits or passive influences. Those are extreme, repeated, self-aware decisions.
So yes, she started as a sum of parts. But through everything she chose to do, she became someone distinct.

Yes, she has influences, but at some point, those influences become her. The story shows that through her choices. She acts, loves, and even suffers on her own, that’s what makes her a person, not just a collection of traits. So for me, she’s already her own person, just with a complex origin.

And I actually agree with you on the second part, it doesn’t have to be a fated link. It works just as well as two souls meeting and choosing each other. The only question isn’t if she’s whole, but whether you accept that she became whole.
