It’s not that overly complex (at least for me), but that’s probably because I already have a general idea of what’s going to happen from reading the script. The show isn’t trying to spell everything out, it deliberately withholds information and jumps between timelines instead of giving a straightforward explanation. It, actually, feels like those fantasy novels that I've read, but in this case, more like a romantasy.

If you’ve watched The Haunting of Hill House, it’s kind of similar in the sense that you don’t get the full picture right away and timelines are fragmented.

You still do not know who JL is? You need to rewatch it 😂😂. Ji Ling is the acting drgaon deity as of the moment. He was just a normal red fox when he was saced by Chi Wen (the original Drgaon Deity). He consumed the dragon scale, hence, he bcame the vessel for the dragon deity.

Who she really is trying to save right now is JL. JL is going to sarcifice himself to stop the drought. That is why she stole the ring and took the drgaon deity's power. She want to sacrifice herself, instead of JL.

Relieving his death all over again and again, and it doesn't matter how many times she tried to change the ending, the outcome is still going to be the same

LWY was acting like pushing out JL, kinda like their divorced era. But the dragon scale that lives inside JL (the one that was able to gain the power to time travel), shows the alternate reality of what happened to JL. JL now knows that all this time, LWY wanted to save was him.

Now, LWY managed to get the ring that can hold the drgaon's deity. She plans to sacrifice herself, instead of JL sacrificing himself to end the drought
