I love the misunderstandings in this drama because they actually make sense.
When TQ said SCC "looks bad" and "looking messy", he meant her make-up but of course people would think he meant SCC's actual appearance (which is something she is born with) especially when he didn't say the full sentence smh. When SQL teased SCC in the morning about her oily face, this was more targeted towards her skin condition then, not really her actual appearance. But these types of comments are very easy for someone to internalize as the problem being their actual appearance (aka something they can't /change/ unless they get plastic surgery or in SCC's case, the bracelet).
When someone is confident with their own appearance and hear those comments, it is easier to absorb those comments as "Yeah, my make-up (aka not them as a person) is a mess today" and "Ugh yeah, my skin (again, not them as a person) isn't in the best condition today". But SCC is in that awkward period of life where she is not really sure how she should be, so it is so much easier to take those comments about her as a /person/ and appearance she was born with.
Plus the throwaway comments people make like "Oh, you are the pretty SQL's sister". Their intention isn't to say that SCC isn't pretty but comments like that highlights that SQL is the pretty sister while SCC is just well, the sister (which again, when heard enough, can end up making someone question their own appearance when compared to a sibling).
So, is Landi Li supposed to be ugly in this? Because she is really pretty. Or is it one of those where we see…
Nope, Su Cheng Cheng is not meant to be ugly. She is just more on the ordinary side. And by "ordinary", it is more about a typical girl who is at that stage in life who doesn't really care about personal grooming as much, awkward with make-up, not the best at dressing herself, etc. And she is planning to work in the cosmetic industry so that gets thrown in her face a lot more forcefully than if she was working in other industry that doesn't care about the way one wears make-up/dress in a certain way as much.
Guys how's this one??? based on that i'll start watching it after completing LOFDT?One more thing i need a spoiler…
FL's older sister is great. They might get into the typical sibling bickering/fighting over things but her older sister loves her a lot. In one of the interviews, Jia Ze (actress for Su Qing Li/older sister) said the character might not seem to show it at first, but she adores/acknowledges her younger sister a lot.
Can someone explain me about the first scene of EP 1?
That first scene shows what happens 3 months later when SCC already got her bracelet/ability to transform and seems more confident (better at make-up, found her style, etc.). It also showed her using that ability to help her put the fear of god in that bus pervert to the point that he peed his pants lol.
Everything that is happening after that first scene is actually in the past of what led to her getting that ability.
Haha yes! We actually got to remember SCC has "filters" on regarding their interactions too. He might seem like a whole jerk from her POV, but some of the things he said had different meanings from what she thought. From his POV, he feels miffed by her in the beginning because he wrongly thought she used to bully him in middle school.
Again I fail to understand how beauty come before skills, even Jianci said in his early days as an actor he got…
Yup! TJC is also criticized for his height which is not even something he can change but it does put him in a disadvantage for romance-type dramas compared to actors who are over 180 cm.
Unfortunately, it comes with the industry. Just look at how many actors/actresses who are considered pretty and get to keep booking roles despite not being the best at acting. People will always judge by appearance first but at least we can try to overcome that type of bias judging and maybe this drama can be a good reminder for people to do so.
I know there are discussions that Li Landi is a gorgeous girl (and she is) so it seems "unbelievable" that she did be Su Cheng Cheng (an original girl). But I think this drama does a good job in episode 1 showcasing her being a typical girl (pimples, eyebags, hairstyle not fitting her, unfitted clothes, average height, etc.) especially when she was trying to interview for a beauty company where the workers are held to an even higher standard. The truth is no matter how pretty a woman is, people will find something to nitpick her on. Her face is pretty? Let's focus on her weight. Her weight is "standard"? Let's focus on her body shape.
Even Li Landi as an actress has been nitpicked throughout her career from her weight to her neck (yes, C-netz judges neck lengths as a beauty standard) so no matter how pretty someone is (or how confident they are), when they start socializing, they will be faced with these beauty standards from ads to job interviews.
In episode 1 alone, we can see Su Cheng Cheng doesn't want to be affected by others' judgments towards her. She grew up in a pretty loving home and has a supportive best friend. However, once she exits from that kind of loving environment, she no longer has that safety bubble and has to deal with the type of societal beauty standards that come full force in adulthood. In addition, she is also "different" because she is physically strong. Depending on what setting it is, being a strong woman can be something to celebrate but can also be something people will use to tear you apart.
Also just want to note that SCC's interview outfit actually fits the Gen Z's idea of business casual interview fits these days LMAO.
But wow, in just 1 episode, they introduced a lot of pending conflicts/themes: self-love, beauty standards, parental's expectations regarding one's love lives, gender roles, the type of jobs you have (company prestige), and etc. I am looking forward to see how this drama expand on these themes and tackle them because I am sure Tong Hua got a lot of things to say about these issues.
I think the main leads not only have "filters" about each other, but also about the entire situation. Like from SCC's POV, this might be a revenge genre, from TQ's POV, it might be thriller genre, from our POV, it might be comedy genre, etc. I am really excited to see where this drama goes because it seems like there will be some twists and turns for sure.
Funny tidbit: One of SCC's personas/transformations is the man called Quan Sheng Tang (全胜唐), and it literally translates to "Complete Victory (over) Tang". The Tang is the same Tang in TQ's name LOL. In the relationship chart, it is said that TQ /hated/ Quan Sheng Tang (while having loved her other personas, including the alpaca), so it is likely that SCC created this persona just to bother TQ.
As much as this drama has comedy, I can sense the pending angst already just from the teasers. SCC being constantly "denied"/rejected (reasons often involving her looks whether it was true or not) and TQ witnessing the constant disappearance of someone he loves. Both got "filters" on, and their misunderstandings just piles up.
Do you also happen to know anything about promotion events/interviews etc schedule? Thank you!
Maybe one of those opening drama date video/zoom live they got going on nowadays. Those they can do even when not in the same place. And probably after a week or two after the drama actually airs (and if the drama is doing well), they might then actually have some in-person type promotion.
