I feel like this is typical black marketing behaviour; pretending to be a fan while actively sabotaging a show by saying no one who didn’t enjoy it is valid or gets to score it, so that people who were neutral are then more likely to downrate it.

What makes or breaks a drama for you, generally?

Are you a “happy to skip the boring filler arcs, love a show as long as the visuals and fight scenes are good, I’m mainly here for actor X” type viewer, or are you more a “visuals and acting are important of course, but the plot & writing are what make or break a drama for me, I don’t want to skip, I watch every scene, and I expect everyone getting screen time to make narrative sense” type viewer?

If the former and if X is CY, then the show is enjoyable; CY 100% delivers on the acting, visuals, and fight scenes (at least in the episodes where he’s the main character and not just a support role; he doesn’t always get fight scenes.) If the latter then 1-12 can still be watched and enjoyed as a self complete arc (13 optional for a 100% fluff and filler happy ending), but post 18 you’ll probably find the writing a hot mess. There is a lot of character inconsistency and filler arcs and the FL goes from being a smart, loyal, loving person to being emo, not that bright, and making up every excuse she can think of to not rejoin the male lead once he’s been banished and they separate, opting to stay with her gaslighting clingy bro who kidnapped her (briefly; she obtained the power needed to free herself after a couple of eps, though still opted to stay with him) instead who she still somehow thinks only platonically likes her despite him stroking her hands and spamming dialog like “You’re so selfish only loving that guy, can’t you love me too? You’re so selfish jeijie” almost constantly 12 eps, which is a shame given how smart and likeable her character was for the first half 😭😪

It's a shame b/c while it's prooooobably a fair rating, it'd be nice if viewers knew CY was a 10 in this, and that most of the other actors do great with what they're given as well, it's solely the writing that lets down the viewers ;-; Costume department and music are also pure 10s. ;-;

It is not too expensive for a monthly trial, in my region they offer a discount so it's 1.99 a month for the first month for VIP, so not too bad?

I think someone earlier in a comment said the Chinese OL title is "Heart of Sword" and then the localizers got a bit too Google Translatey when doing the English title... 😅

Up till and including ep12 is epic imo, I think at least for me that arc built my expectations sky high for the rest and then splat they went in the second half.

But Eps1-12 are good! 🥰

But tbh since Rumu was fighting like he was in Eps 1-17 even without his own sword meridian I don't think in this series not having a sword meridian in any way stops you from using your sword or spiritual energy; maybe just stops you from using it effortlessly/unleashing heaven and earth strikes.

I mean aside from cough blood purifying it and that it gives her superpowers, it’s not explained how she’s purifying it at all much less why it needs to be her at all. To make any contribution meaningful they should have explained how it works as well and what’s unique about her love that made the Red Fox lady say it had to be her.

Her big moment is ordering him to murder her and claiming the right to choose the place instead of saying “I can teleport, let’s briefly visit these foxes you don’t know about whose seed this originally was and see if they have a solution.” 🫠 Beautifully acted though, but what the writers were thinking I don’t know 😪

;-; I'm guilty of loving MLC from scene 1 of Ep1, opening ship battle was so epic for me, and that initial meeting and tea scene between LLH and FBD cracks me up every time XD

100% agree to this, LLH is so lovable.

They are for beautifully gorgeous visuals but not for believability by that point in the story ;-; But CY acting against himself in that Go match inside his own head was beautiful, and that whole Ep36 fight was so good, I've rewatched it like 3-4 times.

I think it is relevant here. It's her work on this show being diminished by haters, so good to have it in the show's page too as a reminder that the script writers are to blame, not the actress, for the changes.

FL's fans are very patient with us CY fans if we go off on tangents solely relating to him. (or they've been patient with me when I have done it.) I feel it's okay for them to worry about their fav too, especially with the bashing she's getting over this show :(

agree 200% re. Rumu's dad. I mean, look at what happened to Rumu's corpse.

They could so easily have /actually/ killed Evil Dad 2 either letting Fugui do it or had dragon lady finish him, and then just resurrected him with black hate magic for the 31+ arc if they actually needed it to be him at all, everyone's IQ would have improved so much for not properly monitoring him and thinking he was safely gone if he'd actually died.

At least we have an epic 1-12 to console us, no matter what came after. If I rewatch that will be my happy ending 😆😀
