Modern feminists want to uglify everything. They hate femininity and beauty, I guess it's a threat to them. In…
women don't have more rights than men. throughout the annals of human history, women have been treated as "sex" objects, whether it be as private properties in ancient societies or as public properties to be ogled and monetized in modern societies

true feminism doesn't "uglify" anything, it exposes the systemic and cultural ugliness that has long permeated our collective consciousness

We’re mocking how much American media tends to favour a farce of inclusivity at the cost of creative quality.Having…
the claim that white, "straight" identifying characters can have their race and sexuality as the primary focus of their personality while non-white, non-straight characters should have additional qualities to warrant their inclusion is preposterous. if a narrative is focused on romance, it's logical for the characters to be defined by their sexualities or romantic inclinations

identifying with external objects, pastimes, and even non-human companions is a cornerstone of the human experience. the bibliophilic bookworm, the music-loving headbanger, the gadget-obsessed technophile, the feline-obsessed cat lady, the kdrama junkie, etc, people define themselves by their affiliations or interests

"straight" identifying people are as likely to allow their "sexualities" to define their entire personalities. they devote their time and energy to discussing their "hot" celebrity crushes, their "sexual" encounters or their plans for future progeny, so much so that i find myself grasping for innocuous topics like the weather to steer the conversation away from the carnal

under no circumstances should the rainbow be subjected to disrespect or associated with gender identity ideology. the rainbow is a symbol of unity and acceptance that's being misappropriated and sullied by the most misogynistic homophobes who deny the reality of sex to erode the essence of what it means to be gay or lesbian and undo the progress made by the gay rights movements. this symbol belongs to the gay/lesbian community, no one else can claim ownership of it

The point of the article is to talk about the folklore and stories not to just recommend and list EVERY drama…
not every drama dealing with a subject can be covered in an article. if every drama were to be covered, the article would be an excessively long, unreadable laundry list of information. it's better to focus on a select few dramas, particularly ones that the author is familiar with and passionate about

take it as an opportunity to share your own recommendations in the comments. besides, it's rare to find such a detailed list of bl dramas on this platform. we should be grateful that the author has taken the time to compile and share their list

your article rightfully took its place on the front page. not only did you bring attention to bl, an overlooked subgenre of romance, you also introduced me to several new series to add to my watchlist. thank you for your contribution to the platform and for your dedication to promoting these fantastic bl works

Cherry Magic is a BL. Lol
it's a bl, and my investigation confirmed that "gay romance" is among the assigned tags, but mdl's tagging system is somewhat deficient. a significant portion of tags aren't displayed on the webpage and compounding this issue is the absence of any logical order to the tags. if it were up to me, "gay romance" would've been given primacy among the other tags to enhance the experience of bl/gl fans like ourselves. we wouldn't have to venture into the "edit this page" section to identify the appropriate tag

Nah, backlash is here, most Koreans seems not to care, some may even like the censorship. Such is the problem…
yes, one of the problems in korean society is the reluctance to abandon confucian beliefs that stigmatize non-straight identities

homophobia, although a global concern, is sometimes more explicit in asian societies. this is due to the focus on filial piety, ancestral worship and family lineage. dominant regional religions, islam, christianity, etc, reinforce that heteronormativity and worsen the challenges encountered by our community

seems like you don't get my point at all... okay then... I said that I would like if the romance between two women…
your comments are ineffective in advancing the interests of the gay community. they "do nothing for actual LGBT community in Korea." if your concern is with effecting change, the time you spent writing your misinformed comments could've been better spent supporting "actual queer media" or engaging in charitable work. why are you here?

media representation doesn't eradicate the issues faced by gay individuals, it's still one component of the ongoing effort to foster cultural understanding and reduce discrimination. even seemingly "unrealistic" bl or gl depictions of happy, physically affectionate gay couples are counter-narratives to the societal homophobia that persists. they present homosexuality not as aberrant, immoral, or pathological, but as a natural, normal, valid part of the human experience. you're dismissing them before giving them a chance to grow

"... if someone is homophobic, they will turn off the TV and rave about it"

then they should've turned off the tv and raved about it, they don't get to remove the gay romance from the story

how do you know we're not fighting for our rights and making a difference? we can advocate for representation in media and take action to promote equality in the real world. these efforts aren't mutually exclusive

"... and I know that writing "homophobia" on MDL will do absolutely nothing"

online activism is a powerful tool in today's interconnected world. it enables us to transcend traditional boundaries of time and space and unite people from diverse backgrounds in support of our causes on a scale that was once unimaginable. we're amplifying our voices and amplifying the effect of our efforts

as an asian gay person, i have first-hand knowledge of the harsh realities of homophobia in my region. i appreciate the perspectives of the commenters calling out homophobic censorship or lack of representation in asian media, and i understand the importance of fiction (bl, gl) as a temporary escape from harsh realities or "actual queer media's" reminders of what we face in society. we deserve stories that offer us hope, joy and the promise of a better future

i request that you refrain from lecturing me or others on the subject. we know what we're talking about

Everyone's been talking about GL. Sorry to mention this again but I just figured out that the romance is between…
it's erroneous to assume that a drama concentrating on dreams and competitions can't accommodate a gay romance plot/subplot. a skillfully written script can harmoniously blend different themes and elements, like music and romantic connections, without compromising the narrative's integrity. the source material should've been adapted by a team that has the skill and expertise to bring it to life and do justice to its romantic elements

tvn's previous efforts in including side gay characters or storylines don't absolve them of biases and lapses in judgment in the present situation

the potential reception or approval of audiences wields considerable sway over the content produced. the unhealthy dynamic between creators and their audiences diminishes gay storylines to subplots and, in more egregious cases, erases them entirely

the main female character's female love interest was removed. viewed in the context of the recurrent marginalization and removal of gay storylines in adaptations, one can reasonably deduce that societal homophobia has exerted its influence, again
On Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born Sep 27, 2024
i find it irksome that individuals like @moonchild/@simonakdramas assume their membership in the gay/bi club grants them the golden megaphone to speak for the entire community. according to them, we can't craft narratives around gay relationships in the 50s, because gay people and couples weren't public about their love. their comments fly in the face of the source material, which did include romance between its female characters

if someone cherishes even a sliver of gay romance in a story, who is anyone to tell them it's trivial or unimportant? it's important to that someone

the more these people wax poetic on the matter, the more they teeter on the brink of homophobia. they should take a break from the soapbox and give their vocal cords a rest

I think what bothered me was thinking two wrongs don't make a right. Where was mercy even if that pos was unrepentant.
"being the adult" unfairly places the duty of preserving harmony on the person who has been wronged and sends a message to the perpetrator that their actions are permissible

i agree with you that in the context of this story, the most satisfying revenge would be the demon making the perpetrator experience the life of the victim. it'd be a powerful lesson in empathy and the consequences of one's actions

the simplistic adage "two wrongs don't make a right" doesn't capture the complexities of morality. it doesn't hold true for those who believe that getting even is a legitimate form of justice or a moral imperative

the issue at hand isn't one of gay relations, but of the explicit public display of sexuality. "sex" is a sacred, private act that should be treated with respect, it shouldn't be cheapened for shock value and ratings

Where is the evidence for your comment? Why would they change the script for some bot account comments in a site…
non-fans are "more than one person thinking" the drama and your comments repeatedly insulting non-fans are annoying. why do fans accuse them of being the same people? their writing styles are different

"... are incapable of a mature debate or exchange and have the intellectual level of some middle schooler"

the primary source of insult is emanating from the individuals who claim to be insulted, namely, the fans of the drama. your own comment that non-fans possess the intellectual capacity of less-than-gifted middle school students is insulting and invalidates your complaints about non-fans' supposed insults

Sex scenes done tastefully are an important part of SOME stories. But I believe that many sex scenes in many dramas…
the sexualized "romance" novel market isn't representative of the range of interests of the movie-going and drama-watching audience. the audience for movies and dramas includes men and women of different ages and backgrounds. the explicit content included in these works would be aimed at men and women, not just women

explicit content evokes a visceral response from the audience. the brief burst of excitement or revulsion we experience fades away. sometimes, implicit content is more artistic. it uses suggestive imagery, symbolism and subtext to convey meaning and emotion. this allows the audience to process the work's themes and messages and invest their own feelings into their interpretations of it
