Lack of fee of choice occurred in overwhelmingly in the past and still occurs in some areas/regions in the present. Both instances need to be called out.

Yesterday, a commenter asked why this drama had a fantasy tag (I think the tag has been removed). But I think the fantasy tag is appropriate. Because Jinqi (a noble man with a military background) being a virgin is certainly fantasy .😂😂😂

In my opinion, neither the ML nor the scholar SML deserve the FL. She is not in love with either men.

A human being's right to choose is so fundamental to who we are and these days we=take that right for granted. In the peiord that this drama is set, women did not have such a right. And that was abhorrent.

In this story, the ML is a gray character and for this particular plot he is a "villain". Because, "he" is in love with her, he "decided" he "must" marry her (her own feelings be damned). And by forcing a marriage via imperial order, he effectively took away her right to "choose" a spouse. Even if her choice was to align with her parents decisions, it was still "her choice". I didn't want her with the scholar either. But that was "her choice" to go along with her parent's decision.

Now, that she has been forced to marry the ML, her choice is watered down to this one man (ML). Even if she falls in love with him in the future because of his kindness and all, she is still limited to falling for only this one man because she is now his wife and in this histotical period, he is the only choice for her. He took away her right to choose. That's just awful. Yikes!

Irregardless of the time period in history, the right to choose is/was so important. That is why when we look back in time across all cultures and see the way women were treated, we are able to call out the fact that it was an awful period of time for women and those that promoted such a state of affairs were terrible people.

I'm with you. I off the romance train. I really don't care if the FL falls for the ML after marriage. I just will see them as a married couple that eventually got to like each other. I like the their chracters . But their story is not romatic to me in any shape or form. The overall story of the challenges women faced in that era is great and I am totally enjoyin g it.

If she had a choice, she would not choose ML. Neither would she choose the SML. She had dreams that were not rooted in getting married right now. She loved the opera and wants to be a playwright. If she had a choice, I see her joining an opera troupe and maybe down the line she would fall in love and marry a guy in the opera world.

I am 100% concurring with your post.

I love the drama and the actors (both leads and supporting cast) are exceptional.

However, I absolutely agree that the ML's decision to get an imperial decree of marriage is abhorrent. It is a forced marriage by someone who has no connection to her (he is no longer her master, she is not in love with him and the Emperor is not her father). So, this is the same thing as any other man going to the emperor and asking for an order to marry her. The whole thing is awful.

Even the ML's younger sister that married the Marquis had a better situation because she told her grand dad that she wanted to take her sister's place to marry the Marquis. So, she made the choice for her union. Our female lead, on the other hand, didn't have that option.

If the FL was in love with the ML, I would still have recoiled at the ML going over her head to get an imperial order of marriage. However, it would have been a better situation because at least they're in love. In this case, she is not in love with him and the entire situation is just wrong.

I'm not referring to the grandfather.

Maybe it's just me, but the actor from the very first 5 episodes, who was showing off his flower to a group of men and was pissed when ML came back from battle, is not the same guy who was in episode 14.

I'm referring to the scene were the ML was arrested.

After he was arrested and his niece was crying, 2 men and the niece's mom ran into the compound. One of those 2 men I thought was his dad.


Question: Were those 2 men his uncles or was one of them his dad? The one that I thought was his dad looked very different from the actor playing his dad in earlier episodes.

Please, I need your help to figure out something.

Did they change the actor playing the ML's father? The actor that playing his dad when the ML returned home from battle in the early episodes (as well as in the flower saga scene) is not the same actor playing his dad in later episodes (episode 14).

Am I missing something?

The Male Lead's best friend is an awful friend. I cannot stand that character. Ugh 😫

My thoughts exactly. The whole "hiding his identity" schtick in ep 24 & 25 is unbelievable and falls flat for me. Other than that, the show is pretty good.
