Waiting for new episodes is giving me anxiety 😭😂. So, I decided to go back and Start to re-watch from episode 1 (while I wait for later episodes to accumulate). I have so many. But if I were to choose one, it will be the bookstore scene [in Ninglan(sp?)] in episode 8. A lot of people have forgotten the need to build up characters and the relationships within a story. Just like most fans of the show, I also want to see the Prince. However, in order for the story to have a meaningful impact when "the prince's memories" return, the character Jin An and his relationship to Li Shuang and those around her have to be fleshed out well. If this part is rushed through, then there will be a lack of impact when Jin An gets his memories back.
Also, people seem to forget that the primary story here is Li Shuang's story. It's her story, first and foremost. Her character, and her character's relationships to those around her (including her romantic relationship with Jin An,) are the main drivers of the narrative. Case in point, when the "Prince" persona returns, what most people are looking forward to is how he will react to/interact with Li Shuang. That's the exciting part of his plot.
Personally, I love the pacing of the story. The director is doing an amazing job in regard to how the story is unfolding.

It's also the way her acting choices delicately balance her character's gravitas, as a general and her femininity, as woman. That's a very difficult thing to do for a female actor in such a role. As we've seen in numerous previous dramas, there is the tendency of some actresses to lean heavily in one direction - either the "strong, assertive general" or the "delicate, sweet and amiable general". Song Yi's performance doesn't do that. She is striking a balance that is so refreshing and is making her character a pretty memorable one for me.

She is the only one that could play this role. Perfect casting (both Song Yi and Cheng Lei). I've always liked her. This is my favorite performance of hers. I can't see any of my other fave CDrama female actors being in this role with Cheng Lei. It just won't work. I'm so happy with the casting we got in this drama. 🙂

I was thinking the same thing - "the calm before the storm". From the trailer there will be some more happy moments. However, since we now have 3 different groups looking for him -("Team Evil Sorcerer"; "Team Dayao Military"; "Team Wuling Mountain Dude"), it won't be long before the angst period starts. Yeah. I think the Prince will forget her and will be in opposition to her. But his alter ego (the vampire 😂) will remember her and will continue to protect her. So, the prince will be struggling/dealing with this dichotomy.
This title and content of the IQiyi clip linked below is one of the reasons some fans (myself included) believe once Jin An's memories as the prince return, he will lose his memories as Jin An. This story is going to be painfully good. I want to see that plot even though I'm dreading it. I want to see them "fall in love again".
One of the main reasons why this drama is so good is the dialog and the character moments.... Let me repeat - dialog and character moments.
Our main leads have had so many character moments between them and with other supporting characters. And in these character moments, the director always let's the scene breathe (unlike some other dramas).
Character moments are so important in visual storytelling because it is during these moments that we connect with the characters, see their growth and evolution as well as their relationships with other characters.
While watching the scene in he prison cell with the female doctor and the General's second in command, I loved that these 2 character had such an amazing scene together and loved how the director did not rush through that scene. That was a very good character moment for both characters.
Guys... Shadow Love is such a grown-up show. It's so good. And I'm so happy that Deng Ke is directing it. The combination of an exceptional cast, well-written story and great direction is making this drama one of the best 2025 CDramas.

I love it because it is something different from what we've seen in other dramas. Usually, in other dramas, the female general's weapon of choice is the sword. In Shadow of Love, our female general is skilled in both sword fighting and archery. And her weapon of choice is the bow and arrow. I love that this character is unique that way. This is something else that sets this drama apart (in a good way) from other dramas with female generals. 🙂

Shadow of Love is far superior to 90% of dramas that have been released this year. With only 10 episodes so far, it's already my second best drama of 2025 (right below Prisoner of Beauty).
