Yes she is predicted to die in four years, I don't think they have passed the four years yet, so she still hasn't passed the dangerous period. RY seems to be able to tell but not fully understand why, but when JL is ill or in danger he always tries to go to her even though he is mostly reacting through instinct or love. Maybe his instinct to always find her when she is in danger can change her destiny.

General He and family have been sentenced to execution the next day and are transferred. HQT is there and wants to help them. General He sees him, and shouts get lost, get far away. Yes, wonderful post, this is indeed the theme of this drama. JL does not believe in fate, she believes a person's own will power can overcome the heavens and destiny is in your own hands much like the Monkey King who over threw the heavens.
So far, RY has seen that JL will die in four years time, I think he tried to change that destiny by breaking the engagement but the event where JL was hit by the arrow happened immediately after much earlier than in four years. So, has RY changed the future where JL dies from the arrow or is that event still to happen and what RY did had no effect on JL's destiny.
Is RY fated to marry JL that is another question. JL asked about her marriage fate when she crashed the divination party. RY asked for her birthday, and he could only divine that she would die in four years time. He asked to touch her hair so he could divine her marriage fate but before he could touch her hair they were hit by arrows. So, they may not be fated to marry. However, JL and RY had a arranged marriage from childhood, did RY's dad divine RY's marriage fate and find his destined partner in JL?
The story about the previous emperor, he could have defied destiny by marrying his lover but he accepted fate and chose to go along with the divination. I really don't know which is right to accept destiny even if it's bad or to do everything to fight against it but it may still end up the same.
