I'm enjoying it too, not because I romanticize abuse, but because I think it's really well done

Tomorrow's episode is going to be roughhhh. But I think the one after that will be even worse. I don't know if you noticed the emoji on the calendar. And I'm connecting the dots with the trailers too. As for the amnesia, it would be brilliant if she were faking it. That could be what leads him to “hate” her. The war is definitely going to change him and help him mature

I feel like there might be a time jump when he reaches the point of “hating” her. As for her falling in love with him, there's an amnesia arc coming up this week, but I'd rather she fall for him after that, not during it. They need to be apart, and he needs to go off to war so he can gain some distance from his feelings and the obsessive way he's been handling them

In an interview, Leizi and Ci Ci said that Ping Jun's journey would go from hate to love, while Chang Xuan's would go from love to hate. And honestly, I can't figure out how that man could ever stop loving her. Plus, if that actually happened, it would be heartbreaking.

But here's my question: What do you think they meant by that? Could it be a misunderstanding that makes him feel betrayed and try to force himself to stop loving her?

This is a dark romance. It's going to stay pretty much like this for a good chunk of the drama

Today's episode was intense. You can still see Chang Xuan's inner conflict between taking what he wants and being unable to go through with it when he sees her crying and begging him not to. She's already become his canary in the cage. Those two are going to destroy each other for as long as they're stuck in that house. Neither of them is going to come out of this unscathed. 💔

One of the hardest things about dark romance is the issue of consent. It's a genre where consent is often blurred or absent altogether. That's one of its defining characteristics, which is why bringing a story like this to life and making it something viewers can actually process is no easy feat.

Zi Yi is such an annoying and evil character

I don't think anyone knows for sure. But based on where we are in the story, I think Chang Xuan and his fiancée will break up around the halfway point of the drama.

Leizi is phenomenal at conveying emotions through microexpressions. His characters really leave an impression on you

I also want Ping Jun and Chang Xuan to find their way toward a healthy relationship. I know it's possible, despite all the questionable things we're about to see him do. Like you said, it's fiction, and I can let myself enjoy this dark journey mixed with romance. In real life, you need to get away from people like that and protect yourself, but here, we can give ourselves that freedom

I'm with you on that. His character has so much room to grow when it comes to loving someone. But I hope the writers don't take away some of his sexier personality traits, like how shameless he is. 😏 And I really hope he gets a happy ending. I hope the “Lament” in the drama's title refers to everything we're going through during this obsession arc and the war that's coming, rather than the ending we get

That's what makes Chang Xuan so fascinating to watch. You never know what else he's going to reveal about himself. He can do something good and then, just a minute later, give free rein to his obsession with Ping Jun. When it comes to her, he has no self-control, even though he's so strategic in every other aspect of his life.

I feel like the writers are going to push Chang Xuan's unhealthy, harmful obsession to its breaking point so that he has to face the consequences of his actions and realize that this isn't the way. They need to make him see that he's causing the greatest pain to the very woman we know he loves deep down.

What he's doing right now isn't romantic; it's abusive. And I think they need to break down the person he is now so he can begin his redemption arc and become worthy of Ping Jun's love.

He suffers when he hurts her, but he can't seem to stop himself. So he needs to reach a point where he realizes, I'm destroying her from the inside. I can't keep doing this.

And I do believe they'll give him meaningful character development, judging by the scenes I've seen in both the trailer and the release teasers.

I'm also wondering what will make him change and set him on the path to redemption. Because there are glimpses of something beautiful in him, but he keeps suppressing that side of himself, only to fall back on these violent behaviors.

I agree with you. He'll try to recreate the captivity of his canary with Ping Jun, believing that's how he'll make her submit to him. But when he sees just how diminished she's become, he'll realize that he's the one who brought her to that state. And that will destroy him. It's something his character needs to go through in order to grow.
