I’m loving this arc too! The way Changxuan is enjoying every moment with her while knowing he’s lying to her…
That’s what makes it all the more bittersweet. She’s going to remember everything, and it’s all going to get tangled up together: what she’s experienced during this time, what happened to her mother, and her own resolve to stay away from the world he represents
This amnesia arc has me completely hooked. I loved it. It’s so beautifully devoted. It’s sweet, sensual, and also dangerous because she could remember everything at any moment.
I also love how Chang Xuan’s character development keeps moving forward in this arc, while still being intertwined with his own desire to be her husband and build a happy life with her. They show him choosing to seize this opportunity while still carrying the guilt of having lied to her

The painting she gave him is significant to their story. I remember when she was being kept at the mansion, he told her how beautiful the autumn leaves looked there, and she said something along the lines of, “They’re beautiful, but their beauty is fleeting.”
I interpret that as her way of thanking him for being part of her life, while also telling him that they need to go their separate ways. To her, he’ll always be like those beautiful red leaves: something precious and beautiful, but something that can’t last or be held onto.
That’s why I don’t think she’s pushing him away because of what happened at Feng Tai, but rather because she feels like they’re worlds apart
Or she could have just written a letter, told him in person, or better still, stay as far away as possible!
I can see why they’re going with the amnesia arc. She does love him, but the class differences and the elitist world he belongs to aren’t something she wants for herself. I interpret her keeping her distance more in that light than as a result of what happened at Feng Tai.
If she were keeping her distance because of that trauma, I don’t think she would’ve fallen asleep in his arms when he rescued her from the Japanese, or gone looking for him afterward under the pretense of thanking him.
I’m not saying his obsession doesn’t play a part in why she’s so reluctant to give him a chance, but I think there’s a much bigger picture here.
I see your point, but I think there is a difference between bad writing and a story that simply does not reveal…
This drama uses a lot of metaphors and visual storytelling to convey what the characters are going through and the dynamics between them. The director’s style isn’t very direct or explicit about everything. And while it’s clear that the story is mainly told from Chang Xuan’s POV, I really hope they manage to tie up all the little threads they’ve introduced along the way.
Lol..if they give us that novel ending, I don’t think this comment section will ever recover! 🫣

It bothered me too that she blamed him, and at the same time, I felt so bad for Chang Xuan. He’s saved her and her mother so many times and has done everything he can to protect them… and yet, when her mother tells her that a soldier set the house on fire, she thinks Chang Xuan was the one who did it.
I’m really curious to see what Chang Xuan is going to do in this new arc starting tomorrow. He’s had some great character development over the last few episodes, and today’s fireworks scene was the highlight for me. Now I can’t help wondering how he’s going to tell her about their past

So far, this is my drama of the year too. Everything is so beautifully filmed. And yeah, this is really Chang Xuan’s journey, which is why we get so much of the story from his POV, while Ping Jun’s inner world comes through more in her microexpressions and in the little things she remembers him saying to her.
