Most gripes about the series are about the repeated "rape and assault" of Gu Hai and the "incestuous relationship".
As a guy who went through similar experiences in teenage years, I can tell you many straight boys in high school have played with their mates touching and grabbing the private part as teasing. We do not consider it as rape or assault unless there is forced intercourse / fellatio or body injury. If you want to be a moral police, perhaps you should also not watch BL story which can also be considered "abnormal" for some people.
As for the incestuous part, both did not know they are half brothers until the climatic revelation. By that time, Gu Hai was already so in love so he was willing to overlook it. Unlike straight incestuous sex which can result in pregnancy, brotherly or twin love gives some people unique fantasy among LGBT so the writer took this path. The similar step brothers' love in HIStory 2: Crossing the Line, was very popular, at least among Asian viewers. They are so sweet and adorable !

They will be married and fight the police prosecution together to the end. There is no more formulaic spouse fighting which is much appreciated and their love for each other is very touching. However, you only see 'kinda of' happy ending until the very last scene. I am glad the director didn't follow the novel to kill the FL character and makes Yan Jin so lonely and sad in the end.

You are right! I just had a look at the top listed dramas of all time in MDL, and the highest point was 8.8 for the first few drama so this site must have recalibrated the rating count system but no drama over 9.0 overall rating is too harsh.

I often find that you can have sad, tragic ending in novel if the writer excels in using powerful words and let readers use own imagination to associate with the texts and find ideal closure. In dramaland, it is risky to have sad ending as we are less capable of imaging differently than what is visually presented. The rating here has already taken a toll from 8.6 to 7.8 within a day and it could only go down further when more people have finished the entire series. Sigh!

I have a quick look at the novel's ending and glad that the series does not take the same tragic path which would have angered most viewers. It is not an ideal ending but not sad ending either, so do enjoy this fine drama to the end!
I have waited impatiently for the whole week for the final 6 episodes and managed to finish them at one go tonight. Let me just say, Wow! Wow! Wow! I love them!
The investigation continues without resorting to unbelievable coincidence and illogical conclusion which I cheered a number of times. The story simmers and reaches the climax just timely before the final episode. In the mean time, there are touching moments and empathetic human conditions that still give me teary eyes, intertwined with occasional comic reliefs which are what make me love the series so much. The much loved music scores also noticeably change with the flow of the story.
The last 15 minutes could have been rearranged to please more people but since this drama has been quite different from others, I guess the director wants it this way.
Thank you director for the fantastic series! I will remember the leads fondly and look out for Li Qing (Zhan Yu in the character) future work. I was pleasantly surprised to see extra scenes of him!
PS: This has been a strange year for C Drama where my favorites are all modern dramas; this drama, Ordinary Glory, Hikaru No Go and 安家 as I gave up many period dramas with childish leads and ridiculous cross dressing FL.
