I agree, Beijing and North Eastern accents are the most annoying with a lot of Er sounds. They also tend to be loud, coupled with the thick accent, making them the target for mockery by foreigners.

I recommend you to give it 2-3 episodes to see if you get hooked. The first episode may be difficult to get on with many characters introduced and FL looks like an ordinary maid. However, if you don't skip scenes, you could already see the FL shinning through her strong character and wit.

About 10 minutes before the credit rolls, the lonesome ML sings the favorite song of FL in her cafe, missing the wife who has been in coma in the past 6 months. The last scene shows she opens her eyes and the credit rolls. It is therefore safe to say she is alive and will get back with ML.

Compared to the novel which has a tragic ending (hence the title namesake "First Meeting Last Farewell"), the director has made it at least not a bad ending but could have pleased the audience a bit better by going for one more scene to show they living happily ever after.

ML Chen Xiao was so handsome in this drama filmed in 2016 at 29 y.o (yes, a 4 years gap from release). He didn't look as good in Who Sleeps My Bro but mature well in the latest dramas including Healer of Children.

You could watch it on Yoyo English channel which has until episode 20. It will air 4 episode per weeks and better subbed than Viki. I read somewhere there are a lot more Korean subbers than Chinese ones probably because more Koreans either locally or in the US are bilingual.

The lakeside town is called Shuanglang Town (双廊镇) which is in Dali , Yunnan province. Many of the drama scenes were shot in Dali's Lake Erhai (scenic lake views) or Kunming city (panorama of the city's high rise buildings).

For me, it is just nice that it stops at episode 14. Otherwise, the story, especially the romance, cannot proceed further. I love the style of this POV which is less jarring than those short flashbacks that going back and forth in most crime dramas.

PS: In Douban (China's drama review site), many viewers bashed the dual perspective as being repetitive and a waste of time. Lin Geng Xin (Yan Jin) was pissed off and replied a viewer tactlessly, resulting in the score plummeting from 6.8 to 4.8 with thousands of minimum score (1/5) flooding in to condemn his poor behavior.

I would definitely recommend you to wait for all subs to be completed especially the first 14 episodes giving you perspectives from both leads to show the difference of them viewing the events. The drama has excluded all gay elements from novel so Feng has different reasons for his actions.

Haha, even from my Chinese view, he did look so young in the drama and could pass for 15-16 years old. He is actually a singer and only started acting in the last few years. Very adorable!

Yes, this ML has a look that grows on you. His debut drama is a bromance short series which is quite funny, called Endless Eighteen. I need to watch with VPN as it has regional restriction (no problem for US viewers).
