As a gay man who enjoy good BLs (but fussy), I couldn't get into the Untamed either after several tries mainly because of the messy story telling and many male characters are too femininely dressed and portrayed, it becomes embarrassing to watch. Most gay men don't like to be portrayed as effeminate.
Word of Honor started off shaky in first episode but gets better and better. At episode 13, I could not wait to see what's happening next!

I agree, Beijing and North Eastern accents are the most annoying with a lot of Er sounds. They also tend to be loud, coupled with the thick accent, making them the target for mockery by foreigners.

The average rating and reviews are above average so you should give it a try. It is not dark or suspenseful like Murder on Horizon Tower. Viki has uploaded all episodes and it should take a couple of weeks to have all subs. Yoyo English channel is a little slow (another month I reckon) but more complete.

ML is a Malaysia born Singaporean; the Mandarin accent is very different from that of Mainland China (PRC) . Even though he has learned to speak as close as possible to PRC's standard accent, people there could still tell it is not pure. Owing to the hundreds of different accents in PRC (like in the UK), dubbing becomes a standard practice to avoid potential backlash from critics.

Being the most popular Chinese drama in 2018 and the most googled TV show worldwide, it may not be everyone's cup of tea due to its 70 episodes and setting (Qing dynasty where costumes were excessive and men wear piggy tails).

I recommend you to give it 2-3 episodes to see if you get hooked. The first episode may be difficult to get on with many characters introduced and FL looks like an ordinary maid. However, if you don't skip scenes, you could already see the FL shinning through her strong character and wit.

About 10 minutes before the credit rolls, the lonesome ML sings the favorite song of FL in her cafe, missing the wife who has been in coma in the past 6 months. The last scene shows she opens her eyes and the credit rolls. It is therefore safe to say she is alive and will get back with ML.

Compared to the novel which has a tragic ending (hence the title namesake "First Meeting Last Farewell"), the director has made it at least not a bad ending but could have pleased the audience a bit better by going for one more scene to show they living happily ever after.

ML Chen Xiao was so handsome in this drama filmed in 2016 at 29 y.o (yes, a 4 years gap from release). He didn't look as good in Who Sleeps My Bro but mature well in the latest dramas including Healer of Children.

The drama was shot on 2016 but only got released this year. She is skinny but not anorexic for Chinese standard.

You could watch it on Yoyo English channel which has until episode 20. It will air 4 episode per weeks and better subbed than Viki. I read somewhere there are a lot more Korean subbers than Chinese ones probably because more Koreans either locally or in the US are bilingual.

The lakeside town is called Shuanglang Town (双廊镇) which is in Dali , Yunnan province. Many of the drama scenes were shot in Dali's Lake Erhai (scenic lake views) or Kunming city (panorama of the city's high rise buildings).

I was curious and checked them out. You are right, the walking sounds were added in and poorly done. You must have sharp eyes and ears !

For me, it is just nice that it stops at episode 14. Otherwise, the story, especially the romance, cannot proceed further. I love the style of this POV which is less jarring than those short flashbacks that going back and forth in most crime dramas.

PS: In Douban (China's drama review site), many viewers bashed the dual perspective as being repetitive and a waste of time. Lin Geng Xin (Yan Jin) was pissed off and replied a viewer tactlessly, resulting in the score plummeting from 6.8 to 4.8 with thousands of minimum score (1/5) flooding in to condemn his poor behavior.
