Mainland cinema was considered old fashioned and uncool previously. Yes, the first time I actually started watching mainland chinese series was after Addicted which I loved it!
Anyway, back to what I find about Hong Kong BL dramas/series is that they are always depressing, showing poor people living in closet size apartment. Hong Kong has higher GDP than most Western countries, why can they show us average people who don't live in public housing for a start! I know some people like the indie feels of HKG LGBT cinema but it is like forever the same since the famous Bishonen which was viral in Asia gay cinema 30 years ago!
If Stay Still follows the norm of HKG gay cinema, the ending will be tragic or depressing as usual.
In a way, the BL censorship in china may help SWM to stay clear of accidental slow mo fall and hug as well as two persons staring endlessly in slow mo at each other (a thai BL overdid it!). I also prefer mainlnd chinese accent than Taiwanese which is cute in real life but sound incredibly childlike when delivered by bad actors like the seme guy in SBMS!

I started watching gay themed films in the 90s which were mostly Western movies and some Indie Asian ones. In those early days of LGBT cinemas, the kiss or sex scene was so rare, the build up made them better than current trend in western LGBT cinema which could easily go into the sex scene and what come next are the often the messed up sex and drug that most BL fans would want to watch here.

The producer or writer made a damn stupid mistake, the drama could end perfectly well in episode 22 or even 23 and it is already a happy ending. So there is no continuous issue if you finish at episode 22, if you don't believe me, see others' comment.
If they want to arouse interest for second season, they could use the technique used in some US drama by showing 'coming next season...the car crash .'

In finale, I had a burst of tears when suyi just showed up running 🏃 along with wubi who was grumpy about having to train physically while everyone else was enjoying summer.
Such actions of support suddenly had a flashback in my mind as we also saw how wubi just ran along with suyi when he trained for marathon, and of course countless time suyi had spent tuturing his lover. It is one of the most endearing loves one could give to each other without making it corny.

It is actually a pity for many mainland chinese, they have never got to see a nice seaside with sandy beach. Most of their long coastlines sre rocky, so they really have to fly a few hours to get to even remotely decent beach. When I saw the supposedly some of best beaches in the country in zhuhai (near Macau) and Sanya in Hainan island, I was like yuck!

If you don't mind the sexual part and the biggest turn off (kidnapping) for some people, Addicted series is as BL as you can get. As a gay man, I love Addicted as the fondling and playing in bed happened a lot in our boy school during puberty period it was raw and realistic. This was how some teenage boys played with their closest mates without admitting they were doing 'gay stuff'.
