It probably wasn't necessary. Wei Shao is just as smart as ManMan, they already showed us how Wei Shao followed ManMan's trail and he knew exactly how she did it without anyone telling him. I like that, it was more impactful that way.

Technically, it was all bluff. If that Liangya general didn't hate Liu Yan, it would have never worked. ManMan and the 500 troops would've been wiped out. Wei Shao realized that and that's why he was so worried!
