You are right on so many levels if we go by the novel. Only thing is, YBC knew how to make ppl infatuated with her. In the novel a pure example of this is Peng Zhi Yi, who is a scholar and also the target of real Xi Wu when she uses the Love Fury potion. Even though YBC liked XL, she made plans and played innocent infront of Peng Zhi Yi and later on in front of TTJ. She even admits that the kindness she showed him way before when she helped him in the Sheng Empire's cold palace was "a seed she planted right" and he is "second after XL".

That is all true and i am on the same page as you. Sorry if it sounded offending, but it is what it is and they both are responsible for it. Yes, she does it for her own selfish reason, but it is also true TTJ keeps on being consumed by the desire for power for his own selfish reasons as well.
