Well in the novel it was explained differently. So Si Ying and that other demon general guy, infused immortals with pills made of demonic cores. No immortal could sirvive the process cuz they need to have high base cultivation and be on a higher stage of cultivation else they die. In the novel of the juniors (not counting sect leaders and elder uncles) only GYJW was on a higher base than the others. His one is i think 4th stage out of 6. So he managed to survive the process cuz of his higher cultivation not because of any blood of TTJ (no such plot in the novel).
