I think it’s also whom you like to watch. If you don’t like Yoona, you will not like her romcom. At least in my own experience, if idc about an actress, her attempt to make me laugh will be futile, and I just find her annoying 🤷♀️ if you are 50:50, you are easier to get pull into the story, also depend what mood you are in 🤷♀️

Not qualify to trial her? Lol, many Chinese emperors/Chinese officials do the wrong things, and they trial people rightly or wrongly. TTJ was a king, he’s absolutely the right to trial her lawl. Like you keep saying these double standard is what cause a lot of 1 rating but again these double standard is in every drama and still is irl. I can understand if you say this drama hit a bit too close to comfort hence the hate, but just 1 star without looking at any other aspect and about this side character (and this is giving this side character a lot more weight than it is) is mostly anti’s work here. If YBC was having more screen time, her character is more loved, ok, that might accounted for half of the 1 star (being super generous here). But to say the 1 star is mainly because of the mistreatment of this character is a bit far fetched lol

I think Chinese audiences hellbend on why a character is evil, while not looking at the journey. Sure everyone was grey and evil in a sense. However as the story moves along, where TTJ went from evil to the moral high ground if you want to put it that way, while YBC went the opposite. She technically didn’t start out evil, but by the end, she was killing people because she can. So to say TTJ and LSS didn’t have the right to criticise her is wrong. Should they understand her and give her some slack and second chance? Possibly, but then YBC didn’t show remorse and she killed someone who is dear to them (unlike TTJ who killed a perverted eunuch). Everyone has double standard lol, no one is a saint, all drama characters are flaw, haven’t we been complaining about flawless characters that are so down right boring? And this drama is clearly about a flaw character, finding his path back to the righteous, which is what all humans should be aiming for. This isn’t a story about you are a hidden goddess from past life, your current tough life is just a fleeing moment, eternal happiness is awaiting for you, just push on. Lawl, that naive thinking is why most xianxia is stale!
So I think while your argument that the Chinese audiences are giving this series a 1 star because of double standard of main characters, I don’t buy it as I can list the double standard for every other popular drama lol. I think ppl are looking for something to vent and something to hate when their lives get frustrated, easier to do that and more effective in releasing your frustration than gushing about something you love lol.
Enjoyed first ep so far, not sure if I have any expectations or I have left them at the door, but I have to say ML is handsome! (first time seeing him) yoona is cute as always. The story features the usual tropes but you expect it and you laugh at it still! I love the trio friendship, and the daughter lawl! If my friend has a daughter like that, I would hang out with them constantly just so I get my daily dose of laughters 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have to say BL and ZLH’s interactions on KR is pretty natural, not awkward because they got exposed by the paps, so I’m pretty sure they are just friend/coworkers who have nothing to be ashamed of. Of course, he treated her nice on the show, but nothing out of the ordinary. Anyway, they were cute together on KR, but couple vibe? Not really lol
