To me this has always been an opposites attract narrative and one that is actually beautifully written. There's…
Yes, it is an opposites attract story, and it is well done in terms of how their relationship develops. I guess also a little fish out of water with the ML not getting the art world but that seems to be more for laughs.
I don't really think he wanted to dump her originally but possibly someone twisted his arm and threatened to remove…
Yeah, I think it was a family/business thing that he had no choice about. He said something earlier on about how he wouldn't have dumped her if he didn't think he could win her back.
I PROBABLY WATCH MOST KOREAN DRAMAS. But i was looking for melodrama with hooks like UGLY ALERT (sacrifice) ,…
I think mutual respect is an aspect of marriage that gets left out of Western and Asian entertainment (and actual marriages) but I can see sacrifice or the willingness to sacrifice as an element. I recommend 49 Days.
I get it but humor can punch down, up and all around. That's just the way it should always be. I think it can be a bit delicious when you have someone like a Bill Burr tell his Lance Armstrong/ Oprah bit on Conan. But who is "oppressed" can be a matter of opinion.
Of the ones you have mentioned, Sung Scandal is my favorite and one of the few k-dramas I've actually watched more than once. I actually am surprised that the gender bender is still so popular in kdrama. I would have thought it had run its course.
peeps, can anyone recommend to me should i watch Love in the moonlight or Rookie historian first?? wanna watch…
Rookie Historian is pretty fluffy. I dropped Love in the Moonlight but most really liked it. 100 Days My Prince had a solid 10ish episodes and then was just ok for me.
Sorry, but it is a youth romance saeguk so i think it will lean on the romance side. Also jiwoon as of now isnt…
I get what you are saying. I thought they were trying to relay that there is some sizzle/sexual tension rather than romantic love and the former can be instantaneous. I actually fear the 20 episodes because usually these shows can barely sustain 16 and should be 12.
I honestly never considered Stove League underrated. I thought it was quite successful.
I liked both Move to Heaven and Navillera. I didn't think they were the best thing ever and I think Navillera pulling the melo strings too much was unnecessary but they worked for me. I agree 100% on Mysterious Love. I heard so many good things and I was so disappointed. It is disjointed and cliche and just ugh. However, there was sizzle between the leads and the PD knew how to film the more intimate moments well. You lasted longer than me on Doom and I actually felt for the actors because there was a lot of hype for this one.
Regarding MDL ratings, I've noticed over the last few years that if favorite actors are in shows, there is puffing going on in the ratings. Maybe it was always that way and I'm just noticing. I ignore them entirely and read a few reviews. I really appreciate MDL reviewers giving their 2 cents and I can usually figure out the gist after reading over several.
I love the conversation the leads had in episode 8. They were both right and wrong and got their say and they both get a different perspective on the situation. In k-drama so often things don't have such nuance.
This show reveals that even if the plot isn't anything new under the sun, good writing and acting can really make a charming drama.
I'm really enjoying it. He's brash and bold and street smart and she's quiet and lovely but has been in a bit of an ivory tower but is finding her strength. It's actually the kind of drama I feel I haven't seen in k-drama for a while. I'm just having a good time watching so far.
what's so special about it, i haven't watched it yet but can someone tell me why?
I like this show just fine but lower expectations. It is an easy-going watch with a lovely romance and ensemble village woes so I think if you want a chill drama to watch without makjang (think Penthouse) stuff going on, this works. Many obviously love it way more than me, and I think it can raise expectations a bit too high.
Iam bit confused at this point. What did she do with the money she got from selling her house ? I know that she…
Also, the house wasn't going to be worth as much as it looked because it cannot be developed due to restrictions (like if you live in a historical home type deal) so the drama dealt with that issue as well.
Idk why people want one dimensional and flawless characters in dramas. They are soo boring to watch and they aren't…
I can't agree with this more. It's better to have characters with flaws and show development and growth than have a Mary Sue etc Also, the FL is book smart but not street smart ...kinda ivory tower issue so she's almost a fish out of water having to deal with the real world. This isn't a perfect drama but 5 episodes in, it is so much better than most of the romance dramas I've checked out this year.
I mean she was living on her own in a foreign country so I think she was functioning, but - yeah - he left her…
I guess I see your point on the financial aspect. I was thinking more of dealing with actually living in a foreign country with a different language etc. I want to see if the drama gives insight into dad a bit more but he did her no favors for sure.
Honestly, I find his naivety amusing. His family is technically nouveau riche and these kinds don't usually get…
Some politician once reminded his staff after an election win: Remember it is not your enemies who will take you down, it is your friends and family. So true!
Honestly, I find his naivety amusing. His family is technically nouveau riche and these kinds don't usually get…
The scene where he is calling her out on the free event that she expects other people to pay for when she is not going to be able to meet payroll was well done. I actually thought it was a good contrast with the art people who are doing the same ole thing regardless of the financial reality, and a business troubleshooter who is realistic. I mean it's a rom/com k-drama so I tend to just go with the flow at this point.
SML still likes Dali (and I think vice versa) so I'm mighty curious what made them break up. Was she made to choose…
He dumped her right before the wedding but says he wouldn't have done it if he wasn't confident he could win her back over. So, yeah, I totally want to know what happened because the gal was devastated. It's one step away from being stood up at the altar. I actually don't think she has feelings for the SML. She met with him only because she was going to break down and ask for help but couldn't bring herself to do it.
