Seeing the actress from Prosecutor Princess reminded me of her role in I Love Romance III. That drama had several well rounded female characters that didn't necessarily fall in the trap of becoming caricatures of a very-strong-woman type (though one came close) . I really like well-rounded male and female characters and would say the closest I've seen recently is the lead from Flower of Evil. The actress portrayed her well also. I would also say the female in The Good Wife but that was adapted from a US tv show but the k-drama didn't mess it up ;)
Oh wth, I just checked the amount of episodes and when the show ends. HUH?? WHY????
T-dramas only air one episode a week instead of like K-dramas that do 2 a week. It's actually a much more sane filming schedule for the actors and staff, but us viewers want immediate gratification. This show is currently airing in Taiwan so Netflix is releasing as soon as they can.
I don't understand Korean wedding ceremony correctly. I thought, she's not married because the groom's run away…
My understanding is the actual ceremony in Korea doesn't even have to be done. They have to file the paperwork with their stamp/signature to the civil authorities. If they do that, they are married regardless of dressing up and having an actual ceremony.
Faith was my first drama and one of the few I re-watch. Love it flaws and all. I especially like how the writer intertwined real Korean history with the story she told and actually tried to make the time travel thing make sense. I also second History of A Salaryman. Hilarious.
I would recommend Dalja's Spring for a noona romance and King of Dramas for a dark satire and 49 Days for a melodrama.
I am the only person who never got over the nasty level of bullying in Heirs. No amount of the I-am-a-poor-little-rich-boy stuff ever swayed me on CYD.
To defend the BOF curls, it is my understanding that that comes from the original source material. The Japanese actor has curls in that version as well but their hair stylist did it in a much more attractive manner.
I guess you wanted them to show the wedding or something like that? That happens more commonly in C-Dramas. :)
I agree. The pacing was off. I was fine with them actually not getting back together but finding peace in their journey if the show had gone that way. Probably would have been better without the friend stuff and just have a well-paced 12 episode show.
I think they wrapped things up nicely enough, I'm glad to get some closure in terms of each characters professional…
I had to laugh at the formal language part of your comment. On a variety show, an actor who had been married for years said he and his wife still used formal language because it was a reminder to be respectful of each other. I guess I get it but it seemed a bit exhausting to me.
The first half is amazing, second one not so much.
I have watched multiple 50 episode C-dramas. I don't know if I can do that anymore. Even the really good ones have at least 10 episodes of filler and the bad ones could have cut the episode count in half.
I have only watched Five Enough and really enjoyed it. I am tempted by a few others mentioned that I have heard good things about but it is such a commitment. All About My Mom makes me think of my older sister who was sometimes too sassy with our mom. She married and was on her own, and I still remember her calling and asking questions about cooking certain things. It always seems easy when someone else is doing it. ;)
I actually like more intense romances rather than cutesy, and I am going to finish this up but it is a very flawed…
I will speak just for myself that my frustration started more when Song Ah went into the grad program. SA had already admitted she wasn't talented enough to make it but then a professor offers her this gig and she jumps at it without much reflection. The writer of this drama has written a very introverted character so the audience is often left in the dark about her motivations. I get that she has hopes and dreams, but she's pushing 30 and seems more a bit like a clueless early twenty-something. This is no doubt partially because she got a late start on her path. In a lot of dramas there would have been chats with a best friend about a lot of this stuff but because they glutted that story with BFFs hook-up and unrequited love etc, we never really get the interactions and dialogue that I think could have really helped this show.
I am not hate watching this drama. I don't do that. Life's too short. I think this drama has been very lucky to have these two lead actors who have elevated so-so writing. And really not enough gets written about what happens to the majority of the people who come from the fine arts...most don't make a living writing/acting/painting etc. Anyway, here's hoping for a solid last week for the show.
it is actually not unrequited, is "cannot commit" love. :)
I was speaking more to both leads trying to get over feelings for other people at the start of the drama. At the time, SA believes violin-fixer dude isn't interested in her and JY has been stifling his feelings for a long time as well. The leads are kind of rebounding from those messy situations.
I agree with others that this is a drama that might actually need a time skip. When you think about it, they both were kind of each other's rebound relationship from unrequited love. Sometimes space and time are a good thing.
I would recommend Dalja's Spring for a noona romance and King of Dramas for a dark satire and 49 Days for a melodrama.
