Watching a harem drama from a female perspective like this amuses me in the sense that all men are useless. It…
I always remember the quote from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. "Yes, your father is the head of the family, but I am the neck and I can turn the head any direction I want."
I only read a bit down the thread, and the only thing I think should be noted is that he, I suspect, isn't getting chosen for this role because of the Korean market. I don't think people realize how incredibly popular TVXQ members are in Japan to this day. For him to get this offer, there must be some market for him internationally.
He actually was one of the better idol actors and he friggin blew it.
Does it need a re-make, no. But I am going to go against the grain a bit. I thought the pacing was a bit off/slow in the early episodes. Don't hate me. I don't know if I trust k-drama producers to fix that issue or if I would bother to check it out because this seems really recent to jump into another adaptation.
America keeps trying to steal Korean classics to make as their own, and now I see it with Chinese/ Taiwanese classics…
There is nothing new though except instead of Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and China remaking each others dramas, others can dip their toe in as well. (I would say Thailand and Philipines have both adapted some k-dramas as well.) I thought the k-drama The Good Wife was good. I heard good things about Life on Mars and I think it was the re-make of Dr. Foster. I heard bad things about Criminal Minds, Suits and Entourage when they got a k-drama adaptation. It can work either way. I mean at least licensing fees get paid when they do it this pay versus heavily inspired dramas that try to skirt paying the fee. Suits I think got a Japanese adaptation as well and Leverage is in the works in Korea.
It's my understanding there is an attempt to adapt some telenovelas to k-dramas as well so I think it will continue. I actually never watched the US version of The Good Wife and ended up liking the k-drama because of the limited episode count.
I can see potential for this to be either pretty good or very much a let downPlzzz don’t let this be another…
I have trust issues with k-dramas of this genre. I didn't start Alice even though I like the actors because of that and it paid off when I heard the rage later on. I'm in the same boat with this one. I'll wait and see if it calms down after the episodes next week.
I have watched 35 episodes so far. Anyone interested in trying this one but afraid of committing to a 60 plus episode C-drama, I highly recommend this with one caveat. If you are in it just for the main romance, run away. This is a well-acted, nicely paced drama without a lot of filler. However, it is an ensemble show with well rounded characters. Even when people do bad things, we get the why and they aren't necessarily as cookie cutter evil as is often seen in these shows.
I personally haven't been as hooked on a show since Story of Ming Lan and in many ways, I actually like this one better thus far. Once you get past the fact that around 5 of the characters should have been played by teens for the first 15 plus episodes, you are good to go.
dramacool pirates the subbed eps. So it depends on how soon China Zone releases eps to their premium subscribers.…
Back before I knew different, I would watch Dramacool and actually see a drama where Viki subtitlers had put in, "Please don't steam our subtitles". That was a clue.
It was okay for me, but I didn't love it. I'm someone who generally really likes character driven dramas. There…
Yeah, I hear you. A makjang drama might be my cup of tea right now. The J-dramas have always done better at slice-of-life compared to K-dramas, and I think a part of this is the 8 to 12 episode length. I think that length just works better for the genre.
whats wrong with me, this drama has so many good reviews yet it did nothing for me lol i loved the characters…
It was okay for me, but I didn't love it. I'm someone who generally really likes character driven dramas. There was a lot of same ole same ole with a whole lotta talking going on in what I think was an attempt to go for a more realistic type relationship. I actually think if they streamlined it a bit at 12 episodes, it might have worked better for me. Having said that, I commend them for an ending that at least showed what happened to all the side characters. So often the ending is rushed and those characters get forgotten.
International companies entering the korean drama industry is weird to me... I moved away from American TV shows…
Netflix generally just licenses dramas the same way Viki or the now defunct DramaFever did. They do this for shows around the world. Even when they are Netflix Originals like a Stranger Things, they are somewhat famous thus far for just writing the check and not messing with the creative aspect. This is why it is funny to me when people blame Netflix for a drama being "too Western". K-dramas have lost some of the local audience which is why the three regular stations in Korea have cut back on their productions. The Japanese market has also slowed down when it comes to k-dramas so, honestly, I'm happy that k-dramas are finding other markets.
I'm planning on this one.. Is it worth a binge watch ??
I agree with the previous poster that it is not plot driven show so it is a little slower. It's a pretty easy watch but not edge of your seat type show.
I don't necessarily agree with all of these. I think some had really good stories but, while some were definitely better than the lead story (like High Society), I think some complimented the drama but didn't overtake the leads for me. I think for me the key is that the love triangle just needs to die. It's a ridiculous trope and most people would prefer two solid stories.
I will say that I was so happy Five Enough helped catapult SHS into lead actress. However, that drama did justice to the concept of someone divorced and someone widowed being able to blend families. It was told well and I thought handled with a lot of thought for what I guess is something not totally accepted. I don't watch many long family dramas, but I liked that one.
One of the things I'm liking about this the most is the pacing. The writers keep it moving along. Also, so far the generals under XQ are smart. They don't dumb them down. Secondary characters more fully fleshed. I mean I don't like what a lot of them do, but I do understand why. The lead actress is a bit of a Mary Sue but as I read, "a Mary Sue done right". This is the first c-drama I've been able to stick with in a while.
My opinion: iotnbo is overrated. This may be harshly criticized but I strted skipping a lot from ep 6. Ik the…
I like it quite a bit, but it did get overhyped though I think more internationally. I was mainly irked with the mom storyline and felt it wasn't done well at all. I think hype kills dramas.
