In the 50s, autism was deemed a form of childhood schizophrenia characterized by ”atypical and withdrawn behavior,” ”general unevenness, gross immaturity and inadequacy in development,” and ”failure to develop identity separate from the mother’s.” Autism as such has been around since the dawn of time, regardless of when Western doctors/scientists isolated various aspects and further refined the maladies within what Western culture uses as the defining basis, and current version, the DSM V. In this way, Koreans likely continue to use the terminology they have always used within their society, that describes it for their Eastern sensibilities. The word they use for the malady, as you can see by the drama, doesn't change the understanding and treatment of it regardless.
no, her mom is columbian and father is british acc to a website
Hmmm... That does seem more reasonable, since it was a little less than a year between when he picked up Bogoto & Vincenzo... They started filming it in January, 2020, but ended with only 40% of it filmed in March of 2020..then 2 months later Vincenzo gets announced, and likely he already had the perfect tutor so picked it up in July, 4 months later. Either way, I have no way to prove it... it just all seems way too coincidental. lol.
no, her mom is columbian and father is british acc to a website
Ooo... Maybe this is why he decided to take that project/movie 'Bogota' that was suppose to film there but was canceled due to covid??? Interesting...he's even guided to do stuff by his new love... I always wondered why he decided to pick up that project. lol. It's like everything now makes so much sense.
She is a former actress, and rumor has it she belongs to a rich family. So, it's not exactly an over-correcting.
Uhm, I think your speculations aren't quite accurate. She's non-celebrity because she's not performing in front of the screen anymore. She still has a helluva lot pictures in circulation, and it's said she also has a 10 year old daughter. On top of that, it seems she was his Italian instructor for the film Vincenzo, and that's when they started dating. He even said he "loves" her and her dogs during his APAN Awards speech, and she went on his press junket to Singapore for his current drama with him, so I don't know how 'lowkey' and 'girl next door' that really is. Most of us aren't working in dramas and movies who are lowkey.
It's likely that she's "family oriented" and he doesn't have to worry about the idea of her not liking kids and being with his family, like his former wife, and that's what he realizes is most important to him in a relationship. He made that mistake before and likely won't do it again. That's why you can see that Katy attended weddings with SJK in the past year, unlike how SHK acted when she never went with him and left him to attend family/friend events often alone. So, I don't see SJK 'overcorrecting' here at all. He found a beautiful woman, who WAS a celebrity, but has given that up to work behind the scenes, and so she understands his time commitment to his work etc, who has a daughter, so obviously enjoys family, etc, all the things that seem to be an impediment to happiness from his previous marriage. He GREW UP, lived, and learned, and is attempting to not make the same mistakes with the understanding of the type of relationship that will make him happy.
When we get older, we often learn that, although in youth with think differently, love does not always conqueror all. As a 53 yr old divorced mother of 2 boys who are now 25 and 22 respectively, I totally understand where SJK is coming from and I wish him, his g/f, his former wife, SHK, and their families/friends all the happiness in the world, and a bright future going into 2023.
I haven't finished this but I'm on Ep. 20. Reading the comments section here kinda irks me. It feels so one sided.
In order to show the dichotomy of the 2 main characters it requires the level of 'cuteness' and 'seriousness'. Certain parts just wouldn't be as funny and entertaining. So, I don't get why there's so much ridicule over Esther Yu's character, which isn't her choice since it comes from a novel, and her baby voice, etc. The hate even to say that she isn't a good actress or versatile. Well, how is Dylan's character here any different from Meteor Garden--unfeeling & emotionally repressed bully due to the way his parents raised him?? Dylan is the best at playing that part. It works. Esther Yu's character of working to change a tsundere into someone emotionally stable is much like her character in 'Moonlight', which I really quite enjoyed.
Here you get so much hate about the typecasting on Esther but praise for Dylan and his great 'comedic' acting, etc. It's so typical since the majority of the users of MDL tend to be women. These are the kinds of women with fantasies who hype up eye candy and fangirl over a guy because of his face and body, and with that superficiality, turn around and resent a girl who gets to put her lips on that fantasy.
I'm enjoying this drama quite a lot and it's actually quite a breezy drama that I'm able to binge through quite fast because, even the villain-y messy stuff isn't an irritating struggle to watch. It's hard to find a drama where character's interactions entertain you so much you just want to know what the next thing to happen will be. I think that the supporting cast and their dynamics are okay, and acting is quite decent...but this drama doesn't work without both Dylan and Esther, because they both know how to play their own role plus play the role of their partner. That last part isn't always easy to do...but you see their characteristics and emotional ticks in their acting...even down to Esther's hand gestures, and style of walking. These two must have developed a good tacit understand of each other, and it works well because of it.
Haven't finished, but I wish they talked about suicide in a different light sometimes. They do emphasize that…
For South Korea, who were already the #1 for suicide rates of all developed nations, and that saw their suicide rate increase further during the pandemic, who also has the lowest birth rate in the world, if they want to continue to sustain as a nation of Koreans, they ought to take it seriously. Death is usually jarring.
Actually, South Korea is number 1 for suicide rates for developed nations.
The distinction is important because suicide within underdeveloped nations is considered a different risk than those nations that have the infrastructure, economy, and amenities to sustain a population in a decent manner. Even more important is that since the pandemic not only has Korea's suicide increased again, but it's birth rate has decreased as well and is the lowest in the world.
I think this was shelved because one of the leads is Korean. Sad this was produced during a time of high Chinese imperial nationalism. It won't ever see the light of day.
So for everyone that’s unfamiliar with the situation, basically he got cancelled for using prostitutes and that…
You are one of these people that enjoys being lead by the nose by the CCP. You honestly think the CCP gives a shit about this stuff? They don't.
This man either pissed off the wrong person, refused to do a CCP request, didn't pass his Marxist education properly, made too much money and didn't give enough in donations to president for life, new emperor Xi, or got too popular for the CCP's own good.
The CCP is great at bringing up these cases and the netizens love to cast stones, stand in judgment, and be warriors of a narrative solely fed to them by the govt as if they know all the facts.
Why don't you look up the story of The Disappearance of Peng Shuai?
Why did this tennis star DISAPPEAR? Because she took to social media and accused Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli of raping her. Did the CCP and netizens attack the VICE PREMIER of their PARTY??? Hell no. They didn't say a word. THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY DID. The CCP locked up Peng for weeks until the international community, and especially the IOC and WTA demanded to know that she was okay. They forced her to go in front of the cameras to walk back her accusations, likely with the threat of forced reeducation/labor camps.
To this day, A YEAR AFTER THE EVENT, Peng has not been allowed to post on social media and has only been seen public at 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic events. The WTA canceled ALL of its events that were to take place in China for 2022 and said they will continue to do so until there is direct contact with Peng, WITHOUT HANDLERS, to ensure the she is well and SAFE!! The WTA is literally LOSING MONEY over this issue!! They signed a deal with China in 2018 to host all their WTA Finals in China until 2030. The WTA is losing all the investment over this. They are not going to do another WTA Finals in China until the matter clears up!!
So this freaking straight up BULLSHIT line about Emperor Xi's CONSERVATIVE and ETHICAL China and its culture is nonsense. They pick and choose who they PROSECUTE and PUNISH for their behavior, EVEN THE INNOCENT ACCUSER, who gets locked up while her rapist goes free merely because he's not a "role model actor" but actually a TOP RANKING MEMBER of the PARTY!!
So, per the CCP's story the Vice Premier did nothing wrong and this man is paying for sex. Sorry if I don't walk in lock step with the propaganda narrative that the CCP dishes out and act like I know what's really going on behind the scenes. Besides, there is a BIG difference than paying someone to willing do that for a buck verses forcing yourself on someone violently and not paying them a dime. Until the CCP cleans up its own house, I don't give a shit what they say about "CELEBRITIES" that get too big for their britches.
tv channel dramas shouldn't be compared to OTT originals imo. big difference in quality from the jump itself when…
But that point is moot because an International Emmy or People's Choice is in relationships to the USA and not South Korea.
Regardless of commercial tv or online platform, I sill think that King's Affection was problematic. I liked it but some of the plot got convoluted towards the end. That didn't have to do with production budget, ads, etc. That had to do with the quality of the writing....
tv channel dramas shouldn't be compared to OTT originals imo. big difference in quality from the jump itself when…
Well, that's been the case for a long time. In the USA & Canada, the idea that CBS, NBC, ABC, & Fox don't have the same kind of budget for quality and that they don't offer VODs for their series on their streaming sites as well is a bit myopic.
Those channels have had the lion's share of the market for years. It's caused them to slack off. Now they're having to compete with other content creators, so they have to pump up their quality. It's not like HBO came out yesterday~! hahaha...
If you look at the entire list of Critics Choice Awards, there is a plethora of variety, and that is only a good thing because the competition brings out the best in everyone. Just because you have online subs doesn't inoculate from regulations and broadcast runtimes. They also have to advertise themselves.
You have Disney that owns ABC & FX also producing under Disney+. You have MTV that owns Paramount. You have Amazon Prime now producing its own content. You have CBS part of the conglomerate The CW which consists of both CBS as well as Warner Bros groups. Warner Bros owns HBO. HULU, Apple TV+ and Netflix have to compete against those now huge TV/CABLE conglomerations that have moved into their original online streaming territory and I suspect that the conglomerations have a better handle on budgeting/advertising than you could even imagine. Be thankful the little guys can come in at all and get their stuff produced. There's a reason they're coming out of the gates with nominated content. Those conglomerations having held large market shares for so long, have lost touch with what their audience really prefers.
So, yes, they not only can be compared to each other, but they are all being nominated for the same categories against each other in the American awards sphere for that reason.
Yeah, dedicated user is probably accurate. I'm not nearly as addicted as some in my friend's feed, but those folks always keep me entertained so I appreciate they are more passionate than me. They do more of the heavy lifting although, I've spent many a night on a drama I was fangirling over looking up every obscure cast member to make the drama's "profile" a bit more...uhm...complete. lol! 😁
EAW is absolutely a must watch. Anyone who knows a person with Autism will be awed with how accurately Park Eun…
Oh, it's been on my PTW list this whole time... My issues is, I'm still trying to get through the rest of my 2021 list to getting into my 2022 list. 🤣😂😁
I liked King's Affection but compared to Pachinko, they are world's apart.
I haven't watched EAW yet but Pachinko was just one of those dramas that make you wish everything was this high quality. Lee Min Ho showed he can have a range and has grown into a quality actor as well.
Hope the best for them. It's about time the foreign community that watches these shows give up some decent appreciation to the entertainment and quality that they provide sometimes far and above what Canada or the USA, who host these awards, have been doing recently.
Please be informed that this article was published while the event was still under investigation by Itaewon's…
I don't understand why you're going off on the writers here who are only giving information that is coming out. Not even the South Korean media can avoid the controversy related to the rumor of "a celebrity sighting" causing a stampede. The investigation isn't even over, and those rumors are coming from somewhere and have to be addressed.
There is no debate on the fact that people in the streets were telling national AND international reporters that either 1 of 2 things happened, depending where they were interviewed, and that was 1) an altercation happened at a hotel party that spilled out into an already overcrowded street and forcing and trapping street goers into a small alleyway where they got crushed, OR 2) there was a swell rush to see a celebrity that come out onto the streets. These statements, erroneous or not, have to be investigated and confirmed untruthful.
OSEN just reported that Yoo Ah In is embroiled in this controversy because he is one of the celebrities being accused as the reason for the stampede and the celebrity sighting. The truth is, he was out of the country at the time... and has had to explain that the information isn't accurate. There are other celebrities being overtly mentioned who have to explain as well... THE NATION IS DOING THAT TO THEMSELVES... Whether right or wrong, again, the investigation into the matter is still ongoing, and the finally results are still not out...
Why you're blaming an site like MDL for 'inaccurate' reporting on this matter is beyond me. Whatever Western publications write means nothing. The ones who have to deal with the entire matter are South Koreans, the authorities that didn't do their job properly, and the families that lost lives of loved ones.
Thank you for updating and fixing the article. It’s really a brave and courageous thing to do especially in…
This has been an ongoing matter and problem for years. The new administration has been attempting to establish a new police bureau under the Interior Ministry in order to establish national rules of interaction & engagement regarding public matters. , Heads of Police & the cops represented by the NPC filed a lawsuit to stop it. Democrats claim it's a power grab by the current president and sitting party.
Why has the new administration felt the need to do this? Because of the lack of proper actions, training, and compliancy with rank & file police officers. Again, this didn't happen this one time... it's been a festering boil that the current NPC and National Police Agency have tried to push under the carpet and not address.
Literally what the members of the police unions are trying to say is that this is just another attempt to do a Gwangju Massacre. They've now politicized the issue...
But this wouldn't have even been an issue if it wasn't for the fact that police officers who come across issues that are "SCARY", "LIFE THREATENING", "PROBLEMATIC", etc... are standing by doing NOTHING, or LITERALLY running away in fear while a person they should be taking to the ground and arresting is stabbing people to death, as one highly visible example. NOW, the idea, is to blame the president for this situation...while all they've done is fight against improving an already deteriorating situation that was taking place LONG before the current president took office. =/
So happy for him.
