On Baidu it's also listed under Zhu Yilong's dramas with the year 2021 so it really looks like they plan to air…
They said it would air by now on MGTV. Now they've pushed it to 2022. A couple sites say within 2021. Frankly, I don't think it's going to happen. China is still of the mindset to not air any dramas that had Korean actors in them. =/ Don't get your hopes up.
I merely thought, after they finally released Wolf that they'd do others, but I think I was being too optimistic.
From the start, for me, it was always 'The Blue Truck of Death'. But then PDs started getting cute and changed up the color and also started using cars. ;)
I'm not kidding. They have given me a mild case of PTSD. Now, even in rom-coms, whenever someone crosses the street, even in crosswalk, WITH THE LIGHT, in a group full of people I find my whole body tenses up. It gets worse when they're alone and walking *slowly*. I expect it even when the mood is happy and light. lol. It now even happens while watching non-Asian dramas. It's like Pavlov's dogs. I'm triggered to expect it now 100% of the time. hahahaha....
Good article... I wish I had thought of writing it! =)
Hmm. I guess you've never worked under Executives before, eh?I was a Buyer for All Nippon Airways. Back in the…
But he's not doing nothing. That's what you fail to realize. You yourself said you got the script dialogue in that regard. He's discussing the matter along with everyone else. I mean from your perspective then Shi Zhe Yu and Bing Wei are also sitting around doing nothing. But they aren't. As Shi De is at the board breaking down the pieces that have to be implemented those 3 are listening intently. Then Shu Yi delegates to those 2 from *his* company, and they in turn contact and delegate to those at the main HQs what they need to either know or do. Then, behind the scenes, Shu Yi is attending the corporate *dinner meetings* in order to keep them off the back of Shi De and his group so they can complete the process without problems. The 5 minutes out of ALL of this interaction you simply see Shu Yi sitting down is a TINY snippet of the ENTIRETY of what is happening.
Again, this is the part you fail to understand. I get it. You already told me you didn't *understand* when I said I'm explaining that all the BEHIND THE SCENES work Shu Yi is doing that you're not actually seeing ON THE SCREEN, is there in the dialogue, and there is already too much screen time of a THREE HOUR drama wasted on the corporate stuff that takes away from ANY time given to either of the other 2 secondary couples, let alone the OTP. Giving YOU a scene of all the work Shu Yi is doing behind the scenes adds NOTHING to the drama.
BTW, have you ever heard of an executive secretary??? Shi De doesn't have one. What he's doing is typing emails or reviewing the data. Shu Yi doesn't have to sit down a physically TYPE a email. He dictates to his 2 employees who do that work for him. Just because you find that offensive, doesn't discount the fact that 98% of executives at his level have *someone else* doing the manual labor so they're not tied up doing the minutia so they can focus on the Big Picture instead.
Hmm. I guess you've never worked under Executives before, eh?I was a Buyer for All Nippon Airways. Back in the…
I worked for a multinational corporation, and the 9th largest airline in the world, All Nippon Airways as a Buyer. I also worked as a PharmTech for 8 years; was a Program Mgr for an aerospace mfr’ing company for 5 yrs ; a Cost Analyst private mail-order company for 2 years; a Contracts Consultant for an industrial water filtration mfr’ing company for 5 years; AND a Merchandiser for Macy’s for 2 yrs. My Supervisor at Macy’s oversaw what we did, and did some of the work but that was the nature of THAT type of work. In Mfr’ing though, only Engineer, QA or Operations Director were out and about actually**helping** working on PRODUCT. What part of “FAA” don’t you understand??? Quality Control came either straight from the GOVT or the company! You have to build according to the requirements, PERIOD, or you’re not SAFE. Not everyone is QUALIFIED to be out putting their hands on things, AND standing around trying to HELP is just getting in the way. Not EVERY type of business is the same, AND I got credit just fine by my bosses. The Execs are the face of the company, they not only get to be the names everyone remembers BUT they also take the HEAT and BLAME as well on our behalf. When I was a Prog Mgr I actually worked on the parts for the dome of the external tank of the Space Shuttle, and I have patches and autographs from American astronauts who came to visit our facility to thank us for our work.
I understand the situation a LOT more than you think, sir. As well, in PROGRAMMING, like MFR’ING not everyone can do that physical work, and I’m going to repeat what I said, Shu Yi may not be able to do the programming but he STILL has to SIT and WAIT while the WORK is being done because if something goes wrong he needs to figure out how they’re going to handle it and DELEGATE the resolution, and TAKE THE HEAT from the Corporate and give out a PROPER excuse why things are the way they are, and that means a **lot of sitting around and waiting**. Merchandising and advertising isn’t at all the same thing!
Hmm. I guess you've never worked under Executives before, eh?I was a Buyer for All Nippon Airways. Back in the…
Curious as to why you feel you need to take 5-8 minutes of the 30 minute episode screen time so you can actually SEE how busy he is during those "exhausting dinners" he conveys. But you do you. I'm just saying, that for an Exec, he doesn't have to be busily typing away on a computer and sleeping with his head on the keyboard in order to be minutely involved in the matter, that's all. For someone who doesn't understand that, I just wanted you to understand how, I did all this work, while the Exec simply took my report, questioned me, and answered, at a DINNER meeting, with other Execs and got ALL the credit, since you don't seem to get the concept. No need to get argumentative over it. I wanted to help you understand why you're simply *not* gonna see that on-screen here, because that's wasted unnecessary production time on something that can be conveyed in a few lines. Sorry you felt you needed more from an Exec than that, but tbh, in REALITY, it's not like that either. hahaha.
Just finished watching ep. 5. A few comments before letting it sink in:This episode was better by itself than…
Hmm. I guess you've never worked under Executives before, eh?
I was a Buyer for All Nippon Airways. Back in the day, when the B777 was newly released, ANA was the 2nd airline to take receipt of it. When you buy from Boeing you only get the airframe, not the avionics, equipment, engine, and internals. It's like buying a house, then you have to either buy piecemeal your furniture, or get an interior decorator, etc. I was responsible for the ENTIRE *initial provisioning* of the aircraft. We were purchasing the APU from Allied Signal, and it was a new design. I won't go into the details, but there were flaws that had the company pushing out the lead time to 180 days. ANA *still* had to do *FAA* certification, since they were using a *different* engine than United did for the release of the very 1st B777 aircraft. New engine, new cert required. You can read the B777 wiki under "Design Effort" to understand the parameters we're dealing with here.
Anyway, ANA had already scheduled holiday package events, etc. around the initial date of clearance, and the 180 day window was completely unacceptable to the Executives at ANA proper. For clarification, I specifically worked for ANA Trading Corp. USA in Los Angeles, a subsidiary. Since I was the one responsible for securing the purchase & scheduling of the parts, I was tasked with flying to Tempe, AZ; meet with key mfr personnel, visit the mfr facility, watch the production, pull up every secret sheet & look under it, investigate, and finally DEMAND a better schedule then REPORT back to Executives about my findings. When I say "report", I mean an elaborate breakdown of everything I learned in the form of what you might do for a college PhD dissertation.
When I returned, I didn't meet with my direct bosses. I gave them a copy of my report, but instead of having a meeting with them to discuss it, I was was literally sent into the executive office of the President of my company. He had a copy of my report, and we sat in the couch area of his HUGE office drinking ocha tea while, as he was looking through my report, he asked me specific questions. See, I had given a very, VERY detailed explanation of a design FLAW that had occurred. There's a lot to it that's technical, but let's just say that, at the end of the day, the schedule was NOT going to get changed. I legit thought I was gonna get fired, but in the end I was praised. WHY?!? Because this is what happens with Executives. They do NOT do the work. They hire capable people to do the *work* for them. In order to, hire capable people and DELEGATE they have to understand EVERY aspect of the company, not just 1 area, and what is going on in the ENTIRETY of the company, in order to adjust and make appropriate decisions that ultimately affect the bottom line of the company.
See, at the time before I gave my report, the Executives at ANA in Japan didn't want to ADJUST their schedule EVENTS. What THEY believed was that I was solely responsible for the scheduling issue. I just wasn't FORCEFUL enough in demanding a better date, and was allowing the company to put American customers in front of us. The President of MY subsidiary was on the line for all of this. In the end, with my report in hand, he was able to go to Japan, since this was at a time before INTERNET & EMAILS, hahaha, and explain, and, thus, ANA made the appropriate re-scheduling and we worked together to get the situation corrected.
So, Shu Yi isn't just sitting around. You hear him tell Liu Bing Wei & Shi Zhe Yu to "make trouble" for the directors at Cheng Yi's Japan division to distract them for trying to pick out what's happening at Hua Cing Tech. Shu Yi is overseeing EVERY aspect of this, not just what's going on at Hua Cing, and is massaging the overall situation, and he has to be in those meetings to have the best gist of what to expect going forward, and to delegate between alternative ideas if something doesn't work out. So, no, he's not just sitting around, he's the FINAL Boss that makes the FINAL decisions as to how they resolve the issue. The other people are like me, just a worker bee gathering data and providing it to the decision makers. ;) Plus, in the end, no one involved will even remember my name nor what I contributed to the efforts. lol.
Seeing all this, I wonder why CLOY didn’t get the same treatment? Because the characters were fictional? But…
That's not why CLOY didn't get the same treatment. One, CLOY isn't historical whatsoever.
There are still investigations and litigations with regards to the govt's lies about this tragedy still to this day. Again, the litigation/investigation are over LIES that NK spies were among the student protesters.
There is nothing being discussed or litigated regarding a fantasy story that takes place in NK, period.
That many I-Fans don't understand the magnitude of the difference between them is really sad.
Would they, in the name of freedom of speech, be okay with a production that denied the Holocaust, if it was just a fantasy take in the "melodrama" with "dark humor" not meant to be 'documentary' and 100% accurate? There are 16 EU nations that criminal 'Holocaust Denial'. You couldn't get it on air, PERIOD. !! So, that South Koreans want to do the same with the DENYING of the fact that their govt killed thousands of citizens by LYING that NK spies were part of the student protest, LET THEM DO IT, and quit complaining.
Do you understand how JTBC referred to this drama? They've called it a "Black Comedy" & "Melodrama". FYI, Black…
What offends me is that the I-Fans don't get that this LIE is being litigated as we speak in South Korea. That promoting that lie directly impacts the victims and the families of the dead. I want to make that clear. That the president at the time, Chun Doo Hwan only this past November, 2020 was convicted on ONE aspect of his lies.
South Koreans are not interested in having a drama support and perpetuate the lie of this former dictator/president of RoK to confuse their youth OR the international public whatsoever. They have a right to demand that, non-'documentary' or not! There are serious consequences in this matter, and I'm sorry that I-Fans don't understand this and are only interested making sure they get to see the celebrities they like, such as a member of BlackPink. What the victims get to STILL suffer over all these years, perhaps, is more important than that.
Like I said in another reply, this is a Kdrama. It's up to the writer to decide what they want the drama to be…
It is a legal matter, and, yes, South Koreans have a right to petition the Blue House in order to stop it, and yes, that is the South Korean public's FREEDOM to do so. There are ongoing **investigations** and lawsuits with reference to the perpetrators LYING about what happened back then and the VICTIMS wanting to FINALLY get their day in court.
That you don't understand that aspect of this history means, you just need to take a step back. This is a lie that caused the deaths of thousands of citizens. You trivializing this is not a good look.
Do you understand how JTBC referred to this drama? They've called it a "Black Comedy" & "Melodrama". FYI, Black…
What part of Sewol and having JUST impeached their first president don't you understand??
In 2014, a chaebol Exec VP of Korea Air, Heather Cho, in the Nut Rage Incident, where she forced a plane at JFK back to the gate with passengers on board to admonish flt attendants by forcing them to kneel down & assaulted him because she didn't like the way the served her nuts. It took a year and INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC sentiment for her to be indicted over this!
It's only RECENTLY that the Korean public has been able to speak out on matters of NEPOTISM and misconduct by the elite.
Yeah, but you people are more on about watch a member of BlackPink in a drama than the fact that MISINFORMING THE INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC might have an impact into whether they can bring any of these members to justice. INVESTIGATIONS ON THE MATTER ARE STILL ONGOING! Did you not read that they just charged him with lying about the incident just the just in NOVEMBER, 2020? Why would South Koreans want to allow ANY production to mischaracterize a situation they are JUST NOW getting conviction on???? WTF are you on about, seriously.
Again, this is beyond callous. Free speech doesn't include LYING.
"Why you don't find it problematic for kids bullied in MIDDLE SCHOOL to bring up the past to CANCEL a 27 year…
Well, frankly, calling me a 'retard' and putting words in my mouth that I'm not saying is YOUR problem or issue. That you read it through 'triggered' colored lens is also your problem not mine. I don't need to rewrite anything, and normal person would read it and understand that what I'm saying is that if you have a problem with a middle school kid sexually harassing his schoolmates when he was 12, then you most certainly should have a problem with NIS/KCIA raping women during this incident and not have any of them depicted or glorified in anyway in this drama, PERIOD.
The fact that you don't get that part, and see only this speaks volumes about you and your hypocrisy.
I'm sorry but this is kind of stupid, why do they have to cancel the show? if They change the name of the characters…
Do you understand how JTBC referred to this drama? They've called it a "Black Comedy" & "Melodrama".
FYI, Black Comedy is defined as: "Black comedy, also known as black humor, dark humor, dark comedy, morbid humor, or gallows humor, is a style of comedy that makes light of subject matter that is generally considered taboo, particularly subjects that are normally considered serious or painful to discuss"
South Koreans have every right to hate on the idea of making light of such a serious matter, perpetuating the lie that real NK spies were among the students among other things, especially when they JUST, had a libel case against their ex-president, Chun Doo-Hwan, who was the president who ordered the massacre, in which he was convicted, in !2020!, for lying that they didn't use helicopters to shoot on civilians and kill them, and only given a 8 month SUSPENDED sentence. This old man is still freely walking about South Korea and playing golf like nothing he did was wrong! The victims got a SUSPENDED sentence instead.
Check yourself in calling this nonsense. It's nonsense for JTBC to feed the Chun Doo Hwan lies!
I tried to warn people and as foreigners who admit that they know very little about this historical moment, to sweep it aside like nothing, and tell them to get over this, is crass, frankly.
I'm the first person to argue over Cancel Culture being ridiculous but this is 'NOT IT'.
For all you who were happy about JiSoo etc getting removed for his actions, that is MILD compared to what we're talking about here! Do you realize that the fact that women, between the ages of students 18 year olds to houseswives in their 30s were raped by KCIA/NIS military the govt sent there, and that this issue has only been able to **even** be discussed recently??? When I say RECENTLY, I mean 2018!!
Go back to the Sewol disaster and ask yourselves how in tf that happened??? I-Fans?!?! Imagine the U.S. Coast Guard sitting around talking to each other while they watched a ferry with children sink. If you don't understand the importance to South Koreans in their ability, for the first time, in impeaching a President then you just need to sit down and keep your nose out of it!
Up until the current RoK, which is the SIXTH, every previous RoK was held by a Coup d'Etat/military junta. The president at the time was Chun Doo-Hwan. Looking back at Sewol and impeachment and keep that in the back of your mind and watch this [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HljZDmP-Igg] video regarding the !!2019!! LIBEL TRIAL of ex-president Chun Doo Hwan in Gwangju and then check yourselves. FYI, former South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan was CONVICTED of LIBEL and ONLY given an eight-month suspended prison sentence! Now, put yourselves in the shoes of the VICTIMS! Can you do that here? Or only for JiSoo's victims???
I truly suggest you don't say a word about the airing of this drama if you don't know about the history unless you've watched this and FULLY understand what you're complaining about! PERIOD! Sorry, not sorry if I sound like a dictator or harsh. There's just no way I can agree with you people chastising South Korean citizens over this, ESPECIALLY those who admit they don't know the history!!
What you ALL have FAILED to realize is that NONE of the people in govt involved in this have been really punished for their actions. THE GOVT LIED THAT THE PEOPLE THEY KILLED WERE NORTH KOREANS TO COVER FOR THEIR ACTIONS AND ARE STILL DOING IT TO THIS DAY! And South Korean VICTIMS want their day in court and to not have the FALSE STORY ABOUT NORTH KOREAN "SPIES" promoted as VALID.
Why you don't find it problematic for kids bullied in MIDDLE SCHOOL to bring up the past to CANCEL a 27 year old actor, but have a problem with this....
Yeah I feel they should just allow flexibility in dialogues !! I don't still understand what's wrong with bl ??…
I live in one of the most conservative & religious areas in California. At the corner of my block is a JW Kingdom Hall. 2 blocks to the East of me is a Pentecostal church, & 2 blocks to the West of me is a Mormon church. Our downtown has a Korean Presbyterian church that has been there since before my city was incorporated. There are Baptist, Episcopalian, Catholic, Lutheran, & Methodist churches along with non-denominational. It's said that we have a church on almost every corner. We even have a Christian Bible college in the city as well as K-12 Christian schools. In addition, we also have other religions. We have a Buddhist temple downtown, a synagogue next to the Christian college, & a mosque next to a Baptist school & Presbyterian church.
My city is the 4th largest in our county at little over 100K residents. But it's easy living, and more of a rural vibe here where we're backed up against a National Forest. It's considered the safest city in our county and in 2009 it was actually listed by the FBI as the 2nd safest city in the entire US behind Irvine, CA.
The demographics of the city are pretty diverse and go along with the statistical national average across the board: 70% white, 56% Hispanic white, 9.2% Asian, 5.4% black, 8.4% mixed races, & 1% Native, since there's an Indian reservation in the city next to us with a huge casino. In fact, 1 of my sons got a scholarship for college from the tribe. We don't have protests or race/religion hostility within the community. Most are families with married couples, some single family homes, like mine, and about 1% are same-sex married/partnerships. In fact, just last month, my brother's neighbors sold their home & moved into my city from Costa Mesa, CA to retire. They're a mixed race same-sex elderly couple, white gay Brit-born male who grew up in Canada & was previously married to a female, and a gay Vietnamese male.
This is the backdrop of my own children's story. That by all measures, and political rhetoric, and ideology, since my city's politicians are Republican, and the majority of the citizenry is as well, the environment should be hostile and antagonistic to any gay person in the community. Well, let me tell you the story now.
I have 2 sons, 1 is straight, and 1 is gay. My gay son was a loner in elementary school because of a bit of ostracizing from male peers. That's simply because my son has always been effeminate and they saw him as "different". Kids that age are harsh. But my son took taekwondo along with me and my older son and got a black belt. He also played competitive tennis. By the time he hit middle school he could do more pushups, situps than other males in his class & could run a mile in less than 6 & a half minutes. He even competed in the male 4x400 relay for his middle school as the anchor. He was more athletic than the majority of the "buff" males, and so at this time they stopped ostracizing him. However, he felt more comfortable with girls and had a group of them as friends. He also did very well in school, and got 4.0GPA from 4th grade until he graduated, and was ranked academically in the top 20 in his high school for all four years.
By the time he hit high school he'd finally discussed his sexuality with me, but as he said, "..what's coming out??.." since everyone around him *assumed* he was gay by his look and demeanor, before he'd even hit puberty and figured it out for himself. So, he never had any transition within the family home, school, or the public with regards to his own sexuality. He grew up with it being just a physical characteristic, like that he has hazel eyes, and blonde hair, not a defining part of his character. He was just himself. On all accounts, my son had a 'normal' childhood. More 'normal' than my straight son, who struggled in high school and opted to be home schooled midway through 10th grade. My straight son didn't do any of the "senior" activities, including a prom, nor did he have a graduation ceremony, and only took a handful of jr college classes & getting a technical cert. My gay son, on the other hand, not only attended brick & mortar, he exceled there, taking IB & AP classes with high GPA. As a Junior he was selected as an Honor Guard for the graduating class, and by his senior year, he'd received many awards for good character from his teachers, along with receiving 2 scholarships for his college fund.
Before graduating high school he was accepted by the best Cal state university, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. When deciding about his dorms, he had the option to go into the "Pride Dorm". However, he ponder this for quite a long time, because he didn't want to limit his interaction and college experience, and ultimately decided to go into the 'gender inclusive', i.e. co-ed, dorms instead. What ended up happening was he was put on a floor with all straight males from all over the USA and all different fields of study. His dorm room was shared with 2 other males. He was also openly gay from the 1st day of Orientation, so the males were fully aware of his status.
My son's 1st days going to college were very stressful. He had worried months in advance of entering whether or not he'd receive his first experiences of discrimination and the like. What ended up happening was the opposite. I'll say that his upbringing, and confidence within himself, and his own acceptance of others, allowed him to bridge the gap between the males he dormed with. In fact, many of the 'Pride' students started out antagonistic towards the 'gender inclusive' straight students, but my son would remind them that if they wanted others to be accepting and open, they had to meet them with the same attitude. They'd come to his dorm floor to visit my son, and ended up making friends with some of the males on his floor as well. In the end, my son actually spent more time with the straight males in the dorm. In our FaceTime conversations, he'd often talk to me about how his ability to just be himself without making 'sex' an issue has made those males feel comfortable to ask him 'questions' about what it's like to be gay, etc. For the first time, my son was able to make really strong and healthy FRIENDSHIPS with straight men, that are just like any other 'non-romantic' friendships you could have. He was proud of himself for this achievement, and I'm grateful for the person he has turned out to be and the experiences he, himself, has created.
In the end, my feeling is, a lot of what happens in life can be of your own creation. Your attitude and mental skew towards things can often define the situation.
So frankly, the issues regarding censorship and acceptance are a VERY personal matter to me. I'm glad my son has never felt any shame or torment with regards to sexuality. He's, quite frankly, an emotionally healthy, and well-rounded human being. I'd like to keep it that way. I'd like my son to go anywhere in the world and feel comfortable and never be attacked. Of course, I don't have control over the laws and rules of other nations, but I do have *input* in suggesting how my son addresses and deals with the general public at large. I'll continue to support him, and I'll continue to support any efforts toward removing censorship.
Yeah I feel they should just allow flexibility in dialogues !! I don't still understand what's wrong with bl ??…
Hmmm... The one and only BL movie released by China was completed & authorized back in 2014 and released in Cannes Film Festival, before the current Chinese president took office. It's likely the success of it that had influence. It wasn't actually finally released until 2018, and the censorship laws are not applied equally. In the 7 years since he's taken office, Xi's cracked down and issued 2 new list of guidelines that included targeting BL. That's not a xenophobic statement either. It is what it is.
As to Korea... That's not true anymore either. Here, I'll give you the recent list of Korean BL dramas were the OTP kiss:
Yeah I feel they should just allow flexibility in dialogues !! I don't still understand what's wrong with bl ??…
Wow. Why do I have to feel attack for pointing out facts regarding why it takes so damn long for a C-Drama to get released? That was **all** I was saying. I wasn't insulting or passing "vitroil" to the censors themselves. I was QUOTING the actual CCP rules as posted. That the censors have to DO THEIR JOB and follow the guidelines, and THAT would/could lead to incongruity in the plot of a drama that then needs TIME to EDIT due to those facts....
Where in the world do any of you people get that I'm attacking China and its censors???? I said, "... Let China do China, we understand. We'll wait for the content.." AFTER you come at me about these facts as if they're up for debate, and if censors give a little here or there in content means nothing to me in regards to what I said... I was merely talking about ***why it takes time for the dramas to be released*** PERIOD.
I merely thought, after they finally released Wolf that they'd do others, but I think I was being too optimistic.
I'm not kidding. They have given me a mild case of PTSD.
The other people are like me, just a worker bee gathering data and providing it to the decision makers. ;) Plus, in the end, no one involved will even remember my name nor what I contributed to the efforts. lol.
That you don't understand that aspect of this history means, you just need to take a step back. This is a lie that caused the deaths of thousands of citizens. You trivializing this is not a good look.
The fact that you don't get that part, and see only this speaks volumes about you and your hypocrisy.
FYI, Black Comedy is defined as:
"Black comedy, also known as black humor, dark humor, dark comedy, morbid humor, or gallows humor, is a style of comedy that makes light of subject matter that is generally considered taboo, particularly subjects that are normally considered serious or painful to discuss"
I simply will NOT understand.
Your double standard knows no bounds.
