True. The ML and FL are separated, so far and it’s almost halfway through the drama. So, several secondary characters…
You might need to trudge through it, I struggled a bit so I skipped the darker parts of the drama, then went back to watch the entire episodes. I am at episode 24 and it got bit more interesting and a little more lighthearted again. To be sure, you will see less of the two main leads together, and as one person wrote, the whole show is carried by the characters and not the story lol
I am mainly annoyed by the fact that there is so many obstacles thrown at the two leads to be together, kind of how I felt when the crown prince cried every episode in Royal Nirvana but the other characters in the drama makes up for it

Wait til the story progresses, Prince Han changes......
Yes, Prince Han never wanted to be emperor, I was posting actual history on another thread so it didnt show up on the one you replied, which is why I wrote I didnt know how they would depict him, since in actual history he does become ambitious when he sees the crown prince weakening and so began the fight between the third and fourth prince when the crown prince was demoted. Would be interesting to see how the drama goes about adapting that part of history

They end up marrying. https://imgur.com/a/D7Hzlc0
Finally the drama went back to the beginning style of things, funny and interesting (around 23-24) and not as dark and morbid

I can't believe they eloped, they are not the kind to live a low profile life.
Hmm from the teasers I thought ChuMu asked Fu Rou to leave the palace but she refuses but then she disappears, it would be many years before they get married since there would be the court intrigues and drama that prevents them from being together.

The synopsis reads like the ML and FL are not together for the most part of the story. Is that a correct assumption?
Was wondering when you will come over here ^_^
As the story progresses we see very little of the leads together, watching the teasers on Baidu seem to suggest that the relationship is going to be a long one and they are going to be apart for a long time. ChuMu's duties as a general, and something about Fu Rou disappearing.

Wait til the story progresses, Prince Han changes......
He sees the crown prince falling and begins to be ambitious, and starts to plot for the crown prince position, not sure how they will depict him, from the teasers, he is the favourite son of the emperor but was punished.

I just wanted to rant about the same thing... it almost feel like the script writer suddenly changed and had no…
Yes totally in agreement, I expected more from Feng Nong, the author and screenwriter, since she also wrote the General and I which I enjoyed, witty female lead, smart and independent, which can be comparable to Fu Rou and the male lead who does everything to be with her while torn between his loyalty to his country and the female lead, again similar to ChuMu with Fu Rou and his family/duties to the country. In that series everything moved at a consistent pace, no sharp turn that wrings your neck or sudden shock that gives you a whiplash. From a lighthearted drama to something serious and dark, definitely not what I signed up for. Someone previously mentioned to be that they didnt mind the change in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, so the change in this one didnt bother them, but the main lead was never a clown, funny or did anything to better himself for the main female lead. It isnt the same thing.

Yes, Fu Rou and ChuMu gets married after a few years https://imgur.com/a/D7Hzlc0
The webnovel can be found at https://www.wuxiaworld.com/novel/court-lady however the translator(s) is releasing each chapter at the same pace as the drama broadcast.

Yes they do marry, as to Prince Zhou, one of the teasers I watched said he revolted and was exiled but it was a video of the crown prince, so I am not so sure, given that the author seems to be following closely to what happened in actual history. Li Ke (the actual 3rd son of the emperor) is forced to commit suicide by the emperor, that might change in the drama since... well the drama is just a story

Yes, it started off very nicely, then all of a sudden we get hit with all these intrigues and antagonists, revenge…
Just think of this way, the author wants to showcase a story of the Tang dynasty instead of a romance story ^_^

I watched the series again since I skipped parts that didnt interest me, and I came to a conclusion. Again with what I previously wrote what started was man betters himself to woo a woman so he can be worthy of him, set in the early days of the Tang dynasty, with the usual antagonists, challenges and intrigues we usually see in a period drama.

If you now think how the story changed, it is because the author also the screenwriter decided to bring out actual historical records during the early Tang dynasty. What you had was a work of fiction being changed into "based on actual history" with some changes, you see the crown prince who was actually gay, the power struggle between the princes, the corruption and intrigues of the palace court. Wait and see, you will see all those things that occur in actual history will come full bear later on in the drama. If you think this drama is about the early Tang dynasty then you would probably be able to grasp what is going on ^_^ Of course the romance between the main leads being a side story.

And yes I agree, the author seems to had no idea on what the story is supposed to be, a story of romance or a story the Tang dynasty history

A drama completely carried by the actors. The writing and pacing is painful. This definitely had the potential…
Yes, it started off very nicely, then all of a sudden we get hit with all these intrigues and antagonists, revenge driven characters and the battle uphill to see the two main leads be together. I usually blame the screenwriter for not following the novel or source material but I cant, since she is the author of the novel!!
You would think given 55 episodes she would be able to cram the essentials of her novel into the series but no, it seems every cliche, plot line, intrigue, and non lead character personality changes is occurring as the story progresses

Someone did a review recently, and compare xukai character to prince zhou. I'll said this using your power to…
This is why I dont read non professional reviews, they are never objective and most of the time they bring a lot of their personal bias into their reviews. 10/10!! or 1/10!!! But seriously any objectivity? No, I think I know which review you are referring to, 10 for everything, huh? When I saw that I couldnt stop myself from laughing. Another one of those reviewers that isnt objective at all, worse of all many people depends on reviews to make a choice to watch or not, and if it isnt objective then it fails to do the job, providing information and a review that will help readers.
And I do agree with you that ChuMu tries to better himself and works hard in order to make himself worthy of Fu Rou and as a result for his country, Prince Zhou on the otherhand is imposing himself on Fu Rou and in no way trying to make himself worthy of her but instead believes his status as prince is more than good enough for Fu Rou. In contrast to ChuMu, he is competing with the crown prince for his own purposes, this isnt for Fu Rou and it isnt even good for the country since he eventually revolts.
I wouldnt worry about these "reviewers" if I were you, they are not going to change, they are entitled to their own opinions as much as you are entitled to yours, just wish they would at least provide an objective review instead of basing their opinions and using their lower body part to think.
