The last part of the ending occurs around about 5 to 6 years time where they hold big family dinner, why Old madam Xu toasts and thanks Shiyi is beyond me, I mean didnt she do that in the past 5 to 6 years?

Clearly they didnt do much research on the screenwriter...

If you watch the screenwriters other dramas you would notice that the use of the same plot mechanics is repeated multiple times from the middle of the drama until the end - misunderstandings, falsely accused and someone trying kill them or cause them grief consistently.

While I enjoyed the story mostly, there are certain plots that are very frustrating, it is like Cheng Tingyu uses the same plot mechanics over and over again, up and down, up and down, misunderstand here and there, uses the same props as a vehicle to carry misunderstandings or drama. If it werent for the solid lead actors and casting I doubt this drama would have rated this high, but this is a personal opinion no one has to agree with me.

The same thing Chen Tingyu did with Princess Weiyong and Princess Silver, solid stars and solid storyline at the beginning, then towards the middle it starts to falter and towards the end it is like HUH?? Are you serious?? I havent finished watching the series yet, on 43 at the moment but I hope it wont be a HUH moment for me again.

Of course not, she is in love with someone else, in any case it isnt up to her, in those days the owners of the servant can decide whether they can marry, who to marry, when to marry and even sell them off. Without going to a history lesson there were the free servants, servants that work without selling themselves and those that are bonded servants, those that sold themselves off, they are somewhat kind of a slave but not exactly. So in this instance Shiyi can decide who Dong Qing can marry and when, and because she is in the Xu family in many ways Old madam Xu can also decide, but Shiyi fights for Dong Qing.

Not sure which episode you are up to but.....

1. Erniang plotted to have Shiyi marry Wang Yu, and if it come to pass then Shiyi will be in THAT abusive marriage, which no one deserves to be in
2. Her plotting made Madam Wang come visit Shiyi which delayed Shiyi and her mother from running away, and because of that Shiyi's mother died. If Erniang didnt do that, Shiyi would have ran away leaving Erniang to marry marquis Xu.
3. At every turn she tries to cause harm to the Xu family. One was trying to incite public opinion to force the Xu family to help her husband's death, in which it would be illegal (conflict of interest). This was through madam Ou goading her. Another one was telling the marquis that Shiyi had no intention of marrying him and planned to run away, which might have resulted in a divorce, dont tell me that this isnt a bad thing.

So "wasnt even that bad" doesnt really cut it. Yes I agree no one deserves to be in an abusive marriage, but that doesnt mean you can shift the problems by bringing it to another

I'm on the 42nd episode and luckily I know some Mandarin so I dont need to wait for English subs

She wants him to marry Dong Qing due to a misunderstanding,
Dong Qing had in her possession the marquis's belt which was considered a very personal attire (kind of like you got caught with a man's underwear). By doing this the mother wanted to give Dong Qing's honor to be protected and the mother wanted to force Shiyi to stop spending time/withdraw her shares from her teacher's embroidery shop by using Dong Qing's situation.

In later episodes Erniang does improve and begins to change, of course her pride doesnt allow her to admit that she was ever wrong, she begrudgingly concedes she owes Shiyi Niang when she was saved by her and believes that Shiyi will act high and almighty looking down on her for this reason. At least her heart begins to change as she defended Shiyi Niang when she visited Old Madam Xu.

From what I have seen from the 43-44 trailers it would suggest she at least isnt stepping on Shiyi or gloating due to Shiyi's circumstances

Erniang does become a better person towards the end, so some people do make a change in their lives to improve other people such as concubine wont until they suffer the consequences of their actions.

Not sure which episode you are up to, but Erniang did make an attempt to change but sadly because of her husband's action she felt Shiyi Niang lied to her and that is when madam Ou started to become her friend and made her go back to her high horse. But like I said she does change for the better in the later episodes (40ish)

Erniang thinks everyone below her status is literally beneath her and as a result strongly believes that everyone is jealous of her, she is very materialistic and proud so when madam Ou approached her when she was at one of her lowest and gave her jewellery and she thought that she found someone in common, as in status-wise, one she can be friends with.

Remember she married an abusive husband, believing Shiyi Niang was responsible for her situation so she's got no one to turn to, she just thinks that madam Ou is a silver lining, not to mention the Ou family seem to be very good at subterfuge afterall they have been in cahoots with the pirates for a while without any one having proof of their dealings.

Concubine Wen is exiled to a farm in episode 37 but you see her there in episode 38
Concubine Qin is poisoned in episode 42 by the Marquis Jingyuan, the old master Ou

For me it is kind of a lazy and cheesy way for the screenwriter to link both as sisters, however I found it it difficult to understand that after making so many mistakes and being forgiven or corrected by Shiyi
- reported to Madam Luo about the situation with Shiyi and the marquis
- tried to get herself kicked out by deliberately failing to seduce the marquis
- one more situation before Shiyi was married, think she was reporting that Shiyi was selling embroideries.

She still goes and do things on her own, and usually against Shiyi.

Yes her older sister is everything to her, but instead of confiding to Shiyi, she goes and trusts and confides on concubine Qin. She's already told Shiyi about her sister when she was ordered to seduce the marquis, and Shiyi that she is always available to talk to her yet NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Let's go trust someone else and plan to destroy the relationship between the marquis and Shiyi cause I know I am doing the right thing for Shiyi even though I have been wrong on so many occasions. Like what in the world was the screenwriter thinking? Give Hu Po a break, come on screenwriter.
