Conflicted?

Did I over rate this? Maybe. Did I enjoy it all the way through? Yes. Does it have issues? Yes. On with the review.

I really did enjoy this drama all the way through and found none of it really boring. That is what I try to go by for dramas anymore is did I get through it without being bored and asking what the heck was that it makes no sense. This drama was great especially when it first starts out it pulls you in with what is going to happen next, but through the story line its like they lost all focus on where this story was going.

The first big thing is that they make the ML out to be this big Marquis that everyone both fear and respect, and you don't really know why because he gets thrown into the background of the FL. I loved this FL she did great with her character and this is the first drama I have watched her in and would love watching her again. I loved her character so much in this, but did the over power her when it comes to the ML yes they did. She is a butcher girl that has been raised with the most normal of child hoods she could have until her world is thrown upside down with her parents death. Does she have unusual strength yes she does, did her father teach her how to fight yeah he did, but I still don't think that would make her be able to take out such a strong general that has more battle history then she does. I agree with another review that I read where they talk about the fight with the general and then her not being able to pull up both Qiao Qiao and Qi Min. Granted did she want to see Qi Min die yes he is a horrible character (Will get more into his character), but the FL has this strength but yet couldn't do this simple act makes no sense. So how did she kill a general with it being her first battle she was in?

I personally think they should of also focused a bit on the ML's story you don't get to really know too much about him. I get this was more focused on the FL, but you don't get to see what makes the ML even really important to this story. I loved the chemistry between Zhang Ling He and Tian Xi Wei, but also felt like the love story between them was also put on the back burner at times. Would of just loved to see more. Also just wish they would of done more with Zhang Ling He in general love watching him and love most of his dramas.

Now on to the Sui brothers. Two of the most toxic characters ever, but I'm sorry I have to say I loved them. They were great and I enjoyed their stories sometimes more then the actual story. Deng Kai and Lin Mu Ran played these characters amazingly. Would also really love to see Deng Kai and Snow Kong in another drama together their whole dynamic was toxic but the chemistry between these two shined through that I wish in some ways Qi Min would of turned himself around through his hardships for Qiao Qiao just to see more of their chemistry. I am becoming a fan of Deng Kai the more I watch him.

All in all it had its flaws anymore what drama doesn't, but was it a good watch yes it kept me interested all the way through it just to see what was going to happen. Oh have to say something about the kids before I almost forgot. Those two little kids were adorable and gave amazing performances. They were just so cute especially with Bao'er saying he will make Changning his empress. So cute!!

Amazing mature love story with such depth!!!

This drama made me laugh, cry, and be completely in awe of the whole story line.

It starts out into a virtual murder mystery game and this is how our main couple meets. It does not focus on this game it is just the way our main couple gets away from reality for a bit. Where they can act and be someone else for a bit before they have to get back to their real lives. It is a slow burn romance, but I felt that just made them finally getting together even more exciting. It was such a beautiful build up for our main couple. The FL is going through being left by her boyfriend the day of her engagement party through a voice recording. It devastates her and leaves her with not even an answer of why. Our ML you find out is trying to clear his father's name and reclaim his name. Along the way they find each other. The scenes are also so beautiful to watch. If you are a romance lover what are you waiting for. Give this drama a shot!

I absolutely loved Lu Yu Xiao & Chen Xing Xu together it just felt so effortless and at times their love story felt so real. Their chemistry is just beautiful and heartfelt. These two really brought their characters to life and they keep you invested in their story.

Another character I really loved was Hu Xiu's best friend. She was such a strong woman through everything she goes through. Xiao Rou was also the greatest best friend to Hu Xiu. She would defend her at every turn and be there for her no matter what. I couldn't believe her husband, but knew something just wasn't right with him.

The last character I want to mention is Pei Zhen. The guy that played Pei Zhen just played him so well. I don't think of him as a villain though some may not agree. I just pitied the poor guy. You could just tell that he let jealously drive him. He wanted to prove himself so bad, and it just was never good enough. You can tell why the things Hu Xiu did meant so much to him.

I have to also gush about my favorite scene where I just fell in love with the ML here. It was at the FLs ex's wedding. I think this is just one of the best scenes in this drama. She shows up at this wedding by accident for the ML cause he is also her boss. She discovers why her ex called off their engagement so he could do a rushed marriage with another girl he was seeing. She wasn't going to say or do anything and was even going to stay out of sight after doing what she needed to for her boss. The ML lets her know she has done nothing wrong and gets her to hold her head high. The ML is just the best in this scene just everything he does for her. I literally swooned watching every bit of it I loved it so much. It literally needs to be watched to understand why I love it so much. I will say it again if you are a romance lover how have you not watched this yet.

Amazingly done modern drama....

I so enjoyed every bit of this drama. It was so well done and kept me invested from start to finish for a modern drama. If you have seen my profile or reviews on the few modern dramas I have reviewed that I've loved it is very hard for me to get into them. I get so bored easily with them, but I didn't with this one not even when they go into their jobs cause their jobs are very important to the story.

Zhao Lusi: Showed just what an incredible actress she is. This was such a mature and different role for her to play and she blew it out of the water. Really loved watching her all the way through this. I've been such a huge fan of hers for a while now and she still doesn't disappoint. If you don't like her previous roles that she has done definitely give this a go cause this is such a different role for her to play. Her crying and emotional scenes still hit so hard and though she doesn't have many in this her funny scenes still make you laugh.

William Chan: I also really enjoyed his acting in this drama. I had only seen one of his dramas before this and I enjoyed him in that role to. He was great to watch with Zhao Lusi and with out her that I didn't find any of his scenes boring, but I didn't really find any of this drama boring I thought it was so well done all the way through it.

Spoilers may start here:

Xu Yan: The FL character who this is mostly about is a girl who has never felt loved by her parents, and the only person in her life that she has is her grandmother. So she decides that she really wants to give her grandmother a better life and make sure she is taken care of. She is a very hardworking ambitious girl, but you can also see that she can be calculative and also very manipulative. She approaches the ML Hao Ming knowing the kind of life he can give her and her grandmother. You could call her a bit of a gold digger. She fakes her family background and even hires fake parents to marry him. So none of her actual family are at her wedding (which I agreed with her not wanting her real parents there but not inviting her grandmother I did find a mistake on her part). She even finds ways to get in good with his mother who was so against her in the beginning, and I actually thought his mother could actually tell she was lying she just couldn't prove it. Through all this though you could really see that she was falling in love with Hao Ming and his family, but lies always have a way of catching up with you.

Hao Ming: The ML character who you don't really get to see to much into cause this drama is done in the FL's point of view. He comes off at first as such a great guy at first and so in love with Xu Yan, and would give her anything she wants. You later find out just how ambitious and manipulative he is to. He knew all about Xu Yan marrying him for his money which is why you see him constantly buying her expensive gifts and giving her money anytime she needs it. He was perfectly fine with her lie and her doing this until she throws up that he is lying. Xu Yan finds out that he has a son that he never told her about and her calling him out on his lies you can see Hao Ming go into defensive mode at this moment.

The story behind this drama shows exactly what happens when you build your relationship on lies. It doesn't work and you end up with two people that don't really know how to trust each other or know what to believe from the other. Hao Ming thought Xu Yan was just after money so when she tried to tell him she loved him he didn't believe her at all he figured he had her all figured out. It wasn't until when he actually starts thinking back about everything she did for him that he realized he screwed up. The same thing happens with Xu Yan when Hao Ming tries to win her back she doesn't know what to believe anymore. Both of these characters make mistakes but in the end they both learn from them and realize they both do really love the other. It is such a beautiful story to watch and for me I can understand both these characters and the choices they made. So I don't really think one is better than the other.

Fang Lei: I have to mention this character just because of how aggravating she was. You will not like her character at all she shows what a serious obsessive person is really like and how delusional they are. The ML was never romantically involved with her, but with the way she acts you would think he was.

I can understand why some wouldn't want to watch this drama just because how the main characters start out, but you can see from the start of this just how much they really love each other. Did they make mistakes yes, but the fact is they learned from them and came back to each other. I loved this drama and have to say it is a much watch if you can get through it.

Not the usual master/disciple story which is so great!!

Had to change my rating after thinking about it for some time. I actually really loved this drama and find myself going back and watching clips for it and rewatching it.

I think this was a refreshing love story between a master and disciple. It was not the same forbidden love story between them that has been done so much and seems to be the same story but with different actors. This one is not a forbidden love story and the disciple ends up being the master of his own master which is a twist.

Deng Wei/ Su Yi Shui
This is the best character Deng Wei has played in my opinion even though I do like other characters he has played. The first thing I want to say is love the costumes and the way they styled his hair in this drama. I really liked him having the wavy hair in Till the end of the moon and they styled his hair that way in this drama. Shui starting out in this has a lot of hate in him but after you find out what he goes through as a child with his family you understand why. When his master takes him in as a disciple he starts to get the first feeling of love and a home that he has never had. Starting the love story between him and his master. I just really loved Deng Wei as this character.

Julia Xiang/ Mu Qing Ge/Xue Ran Ran
This female lead is refreshing she is not a damsel in distress. She is the master of the male lead and does not need saving she actually tries to do the saving of him. She wants to keep him safe even at the cost of her own life. I really love her in red and she wears it for a little while until she becomes the disciple but she will start wearing red again near the end.

I found the love story between the two leads really sweet and it kept me watching all the way till the end. Granted there are some scenes that may seem repetitive and they do have the leads losing their memory of each other in the drama, but I didn't think it took away from the love story or made me bored with it. The chemistry and the fact that it is such a different master/disciple relationship I think is worth watching. If your tired of the we can't be together because we are master and disciple you may like this. What this master and disciple are willing to do for each other so the other can live and be happy is something. The biggest plus to this drama is it has one of the best happy endings I have seen in a while for this kind of drama, and they don't rush through the ending either. You get to enjoy it.

It had the biggest potential...

I so wanted to like this more and was so ready to watch this when it aired. This just looked so different for Dilraba and it was. She also did amazing in her role. Also really enjoyed Chen Xing Xu in his role. It starts off so strong and I was so interested in the characters, but it does start to fall off the cliff toward the end.

I really loved the chemistry between Dilraba and Chen Xing Xu and it starts off so strong. With their fighting and being cautious around each other at the start. One of my fave scenes from this is their fight in Nie Jiu Luo's house. It is so intense and you really don't know if they are really fighting or going to start kissing each other. The chemistry is so strong in this scene. I do feel like they could of done more cause this is really not a romance. So for romance lovers that does really take a backseat to everything else that is going on in this drama.

3 characters that I really enjoyed watching through this (besides the leads of course) was Xing Shen (Mad Dog), Yu Rong (Ghost Whip), and Feng mi. I just thought they played their characters so well and I enjoyed watching them. Even if Mad Dog does seem a bit unlikable at times you could tell this guy was loyal to the Nanshan Hunters if nothing else.

I do really feel like like this drama just fades off toward the end like they really didn't know how to end it, or they just didn't know how to make it a stronger tale. I will say the last 3 episodes you can watch in fast forward. There is no new information there that you will miss. I really wish they would of explained things more but they didn't. That last 3 episodes just really feel like a waste. Its like your watching the start of a whole different drama by the end of this. I feel disappointed really wanted to like this more than I did. The actors are worth watching. The story falls flat.

This was so disappointing....

What I am saying is disappointing in this drama is the story. The story is just so boring and when I first watched the trailer for this I thought it was going to be so good. The trailer made it look better than what it actually was. As I started watching it I found it so hard to get into that it took me so long to finish it. Not only that but I've seen this called a slow burn romance and I like slow burn romances there was no romance it was like non existence. Plus the ML and FL had no chemistry. They actually seemed kind of awkward together even when they are supposed to get together. I think they focused too hard on making all the scenes pretty and making the fight scenes stand out. I only liked the FL's red costumes in this though. I was more interested in the side character romances. Also they did the FL so dirty by giving her such an annoying and childish voice, I didn't mind her acting just the voice they gave her. I haven't seen Xiao Zhan in much but I really don't think the cold and distance master role did him any favors here. I liked him better in The Wolf and Oh My Emperor.

How I ended up finishing this instead of just dropping it was for Alen Fang. I really did like his character and he had more chemistry with the FL than the ML. Plus his story was a lot more interesting up until the dang end. So of course they even have to ruin the story line for a character I really did like. I am not going to put spoilers on why I hated it so much, but if you have watched it then you know. I really did enjoy him though and Alen was really great as this character.

Short, Sweet and to the point

This drama may have been so short and fast paced but still an enjoyable watch. In the beginning you will be so confused and wondering what is going on but it will keep you watching. I loved the FL here and the way she played her character she was really something to watch. Then you of course have the incredible Li Fei he is the ML but this story is focused on her not really him, but of course he stands out.

The female leads story is definitely a sad one when you find out why she is the way she is. She is out for revenge on everyone that has done her wrong. The one thing I don't think she planned on was falling in love with the son of the man that took away her happiness and everything, but even his love couldn't get her to forget the man that she lost. Its so short and fast paced that you will want more out of it but it still got me hooked with the way it is.

Li Fei-Richard Li kept me hooked to the end

I am hooked just watching this guy and would love to see him in a full length drama. He is what wows me in these short length dramas so far cause the story plot of this I found kind of predictable in the second half. I did really enjoy how it started but it just goes downhill for me in the second half. I liked the actors in this my whole thing is just with the story it could of been done better.

There is a trigger warning in this drama some scenes are hard to watch for the 2fl. Her life just becomes so tragic and you want to cry for her. The emperor deserved a worse ending then what he got. He got away with everything too easily. No one really even confronts him for everything except the crown prince with his own things against him. I don't know I just wanted more out of this drama but I did get a good watch for Li Fei. He did not disappoint.

New fan of Li Fei now!!

I started watching this drama because everyone on Stolen Love page was saying that these two dramas were kind of similar so decided to give it a go. I have to say I loved watching Li Fei in this he was pretty much the best thing in this drama. All of his scenes seriously don't disappoint. I would recommend to watch this solely for him alone. His chemistry also with the female lead was amazing and really wished we would of actually got to see more scenes of them together and not just at odds with each other. It actually could of definitely been longer to actually explain some of things in it better.

I would have to say for it that its not a bad watch but its also not an absolutely great watch either, but Its only because there just needed to be more to the story. Definitely more to their love story cause it just felt like there wasn't much to it and your just left really wanting more of the two leads. I guess that is my biggest frustration here that you just don't get much of the leads actually together I really just wanted that keep going for a least a little longer then what we got.

Loved the actors but could of been a bit shorter...

The actors were amazing in this I have to say that I loved the way they all played their characters. It just felt like they tried to put too much in the show that they didn't really need. Kind of made some parts feel really slow and would make you just want to fast forward through it and some parts you actually can and you will not miss the plot of the drama. It is huge on politics and you would think that yes skipping through some you would miss something not really here the big moments tend to be where everything comes out and those moments I felt like kept you wanting to keep watching.

Li Yun Rui and Meng Zi Yi were great to watch really loved their characters the most in this drama. I think it is worth watching just for these two even if some parts are a little boring. The whole story of the drama is actually so interesting to watch and you want to know what happens that is one thing that kept me watching they could of just done it with fewer episodes. One thing I do think it does miss is that wow factor cause sometimes it really just felt like hmm do I want to continue this drama, but it was worth the watch even if I did feel that way sometimes. I didn't hate the story so if you can get through some slow scenes that don't really feel necessary you make actually like the drama.

Tell me were you sent by my dad to take care of me.....No.....I volunteered.

The First Frost has some of the best lines that will just stick with you. There are so many that I am just going with one. I have never read the novel so I didn't really know what to expect for Sang Yan's story. Even though I do think this focused on more of Wen Yifan's story then his but like I said I have never read the novel. For me this show kept me hooked from the first episode I wanted to know what happened between these two, and what all had she been through that she felt like she had to do everything on her own. Also with the second couple I would of love to see more of their story with less of his grandparents being in it. I loved the best friend of Wen Yifan and would of loved her love story but it felt like it just turned into his grandparents story more than anything.

SANG YAN-
Is probably one of the best male leads to ever be seen. He is just way to good to be true. He never gave up on Wen Yifan and never moved on from her. Even when he believed she had just dropped him because he had a one sided love for her. Sang Yan was never mad at her for her doing this to him either just devastated and still try to find some ways to be involved in her life. (Even though some people may find this a be a bit of a stalker like behavior). He even blames himself for not seeing everything she had been through when he was still in her life.

WEN YIFAN-
This poor girl has just been through so much and even didn't have her family on her side. Her whole world came crumbling down when her dad dies granted she got to stay with her grandmother for a little bit but she couldn't take care of her for very long. Sang Yan was her only light through everything she had been through but to get away from her family she ran from everyone including him. I don't see how anyone couldn't feel for this girl through her story. She did what she thought was best for her at such a young age when her mother wouldn't even help her. She does love Sang Yan and doesn't move on from him either.

ZHONG SI QIAO-
I have to mention this girl through my review cause I really liked her and believe everyone should have a best friend like her in their lives. She is always there for her friends even when the tend to forget about her and she always wants whats best for them and that they are always happy. She doesn't act like other friends in dramas when a boy she likes actually likes her best friend and not her. She doesn't get mad at Wen Yifan doesn't blame her or even turn on her. She will not let a boy stand in the way of their friendship. Like how can you not like this girl through this drama. Even though I thought the whole grandparent story could of been shorter still really enjoyed watching this girl.

The First Frost is definitely going to be a top modern drama for me. I have such trouble with modern dramas so when I do get ones I really do enjoy it does mean something. I have very few modern dramas I have actually loved. Sang Yan and Wen Yifan's story is one that will definitely stay with me for awhile, but as I always say everyone is different and you may not agree but give it a chance and see.

Just So Boring!!

Dropping this was not an easy decision to make for this drama had been one I was really looking forward to. I just found the story to be so boring and nothing interesting happening. Also I don't think Yang Mi and Gong Jun have any chemistry what so ever. I usually really like Yang Mi but she did not blow me away in this she just seems to have the same expression on her face no matter what happens through the episodes I did watch. If you can make it through the story Gong Jun is definitely worth watching. The one thing I did like in this was the costumes for the cast the were beautiful but that was about it.

Perfect for a modern drama!!

Zhang Ling He has done it again!!! This is what I look for in a perfect modern drama. I have such a bad problem with even getting into modern dramas because I find a lot of them so boring. Modern dramas will either include too much of the characters work life which most times they do it in such a boring matter. The best thing does include what they do at work but I did not find it boring at all or want to fast forward through it. A lot of the couples cute moments are also while they are working.

The love story between He Su Ye and Shen Xi Fan is the best thing to watch in this drama. The chemistry is amazing and I loved all their scenes together. I do look for cute love stories in a drama and I think this is up there with one of the best I have seen. There is no silly misunderstandings or love triangles. Even though this does start with the female lead being in a long term relationship with her ex (couldn't stand that guy). Her ex is something else and even though they could of had her ex cause problems when that is what he seemed like he wanted to do he didn't. He does stay out of her new relationship when he has found out she has moved on. I felt for the FL and what she went through with her ex and how she wasn't so sure about getting into another relationship after him. He Su Ye stays by her side and is so understanding when he finds out about her past. It's just hard of how you can't fall in love with their love story. It's The Best Thing!!!

Even toward the end where they do have her mom get sick. It does not take away from their story at all. That is what the ML because of what his mom went through has specialized in. The fact that he can be there to help her mom through this and also be there for the FL was so sweet, and the ending wedding scene was so beautiful. So in all if your a romance lover I think you could love this. There really isn't any drama in it which some may find boring but I actually found that so refreshing.

Wow I am actually doing another review just because I am surprised with all the bad reviews for this. I admit when I started watching this I wasn't expecting to like it at all just because I am very bad for sticking to dramas where I have seen most of the actors in a few things before and this one barely seen any of them, but I thought they all did very good with the drama they were in. I get that not everyone likes the cry baby clingy female lead that is in a lot of dramas but that is not the actors fault that her character is portrayed that way, and I thought Yang Chao Yue did very well in this drama. I will say that I did like a lot of the other male characters then the male lead in this but not because of the actor but because of how his character was portrayed he made you literally want to yell at him through the screen in the whole thing. My favorite characters in this was really Mu Yu/Tian Zhixie yes even though you find out that he basically used and lied to her and Qin Ke he just showed that even though he was in love with her that he didn't expect anything in return just that she was safe and happy. There was times I so wished that she would forget about the male lead and just look at these two guys. My one other nit pick is that for these dramas if you are going to do a sad ending commit to it I'm sorry but I really don't think that makes a show bad is it sad yes but its not bad. Doing a nine minute episode just to try to show that yes they are living happily is just pointless to me. So even though I didn't think this drama was perfect but it wasn't awful either I also had things I liked and didn't like in it.

I really didn't think this story made sense but.....

I really wanted to enjoy this drama because I do like most of Zhao Lu Si's shows. I love how she can be silly in a lot of her dramas cause she is really good at it without it being so annoying that you want to turn the show off. There were things I liked about this drama it will make you laugh and it does have some pretty cute moments in it but where they really lost me was the last 10 episodes.

Why I liked this drama: All the actors did great playing their roles with the story they were given even the second male lead that will annoy you through most of the show, but he plays his character really well that you can't be to mad at him. There are also parts that will make you laugh and that you will find cute. So the Drama is really lighthearted for the most part.

Why I disliked this drama: Number one answer the STORY it just went everywhere it was like the director didn't know what way he wanted this drama to go and there were scenes that just didn't make any sense what so ever but they threw it in it anyway. Another reason is like I have already stated the second male lead he is really annoying through the whole thing. At times it would seem that the show was a bit more about him then anything he was in almost every scene ( So good thing he could play his part well) he literally can't take no for an answer. Even though you won't root for the second male lead through this at all I also felt he had more chemistry with Zhao Lu Si then Xu Kai Cheng.

So overall I wouldn't recommend this drama just because of the story but if you are someone who can look past that and just enjoy the actors then I think you would enjoy this drama.
