It's funny how so many people wanted a dark Shen Yi. I don't really get that. I like innocent and sweet Shen Yi. But I think for S2 I also would have preferred dark SY to godlike SY who knows what everyone is thinking in their deepest soul and pretty much solves cases all by himself.

Thanks for posting this. I just watched and I agree with her. I don't see technical things, like the way scenes are framed, the way she does, but I find it so interesting and I wonder how it subconsciously affects the way I view the drama.
I really liked her take on the ending where Shen Yi and Du Cheng are at the pier talking and then sitting and then SY spreads his arms out. I felt the same type of embarrassment that she talked about. It was just such an awkward scene. I saw some people going crazy for SY talking about DC being the center and he (SY) was flying or something because DC would always bring him back. I thought that was silly and besides, that's not how policing is supposed to work.
I also liked when she talking about how shipping points were subtle in S1 and felt forced in S2. Everything seemed a little forced in S2. I wish we could see how S2 would have played out with the original team.
What makes you think people aren't offended and outraged by your "Not Offended By" list? It's completely possible to be offended by many things at once, although offended is far too mild a word to describe all the issues you listed. People talk about, rage and try to stop these things all the time.
I don't find anything wrong with being angry when a drama uses a current situation in which people are dying/being injured and maimed, being displaced, losing loved ones, starving, etc. inappropriately.
To be fair (and I haven't finished S2 yet - if I do at this point because this is getting beyond ridiculous to…
Yes, yes. Police work is drudgery. They don't show nearly enough of that.
And Shen Yi constantly having to be rescued by Du Cheng is beyond ridiculous. Was SY teaching his art class (when does he actually have time to prepare and lecture?) while basic police training was happening?
So glad I'm not the only one finding this season stretching credulity. No wonder, as someone upthread said, everyone looks so gloomy. Worrying about whether SY is going to survive his breaks with protocol would make anyone gloomy (and annoyed).
I agree. I didn't really like how they tried to make Kai Yi sympathetic through Shen Yi's character. They weren't…
Yes, exactly.
It's really funny, isn't it, how people can watch the same show and come to completely opposite views on what is happening. Happens all the time and it never fails to fascinate me.
finished S2. It's a quite disappointment. I blame the writers. Those flashy and kinda stupid cases with over the…
Yes to everything you said! I couldn't believe how ridiculously godlike they made Shen Yi. I was getting so irritated with him which annoyed me because I love TJC.
The first season had a cozy, homey feel, and I really enjoyed the lovely work environment it portrayed. The cases…
I agree with your analysis of this season. If there is a S3 I don't see how they can pull Shen Yi back from the direction he's headed so it might even be worse than S2.
Maybe I know too much about actual criminal profiling that I just can't suspend the amount of disbelief needed…
Haha! Desk duty would mean Shen Yi drawing endless detailed pictures from a 1-inch shadow and the tip of an ear along with a full psychiatric evaluation!

I don't know. It seemed more and more like Shen Yi was the savior understanding every criminal's thoughts and DC was relegated to being the white knight rescuing SY when he forgot the most basic of police procedures (don't go in alone). He even managed to cure Li Han of hoarding with one little talk session which I found unrealistic.
I saw the two-week break as "thinking time" for Shen Yi. He didn't face any discipline for his actions and spent it playing psychiatrist with a killer until he saw the error of his ways. (I had to laugh, though, at one of the later scenes where SY and Kai Yi were talking and it got so intimate that I seriously thought Kai Yi was going to lean over and kiss SY. Then I remembered that it's China so that wouldn't happen, but they came as close as they could to showing it. I don't see the BL in the series like some do, but in that scene I sure did.)
I was wondering about bike helmet laws in China. I'll just put that down to my personal annoyance and not blame the show for it, then.

May I just say I loved your two comments! I also liked S1 better, though I skimmed the last few episodes. I really disliked how they made Shen Yi so perfect that the others weren't really necessary, except he managed to be a complete idiot getting caught every single time so Du Cheng had to rescue him. How Shen Yi escaped being suspended is beyond me. (And why did he never wear a helmet when he rode his bike? I think that drove me more crazy than anything else!)
See my comment under Yue's comment a couple comments down for how I felt about the ending of Kai Yi's arc if you decide to finish watching.
I really wish it were possible to see how this season would have gone with the original writers.
fang kaiyi's story reminded me of kdrama mouse. thus it made me expect more climactic episodes involving him but…
I agree. I didn't really like how they tried to make Kai Yi sympathetic through Shen Yi's character. They weren't alike at all. Shen Yi never orchestrated someone's murder like Kai Yi did, nor did Shen Yi ever do anything illegal like Kai Yi. The script made it seem like Shen Yi was turning Kai Yi away from a life of crime when he'd already committed crimes. Shen Yi possibly turning to the dark side is not the same as what Kai Yi did.
It took me a minute to understand what that picture was implying. There had better be a S3, that's all I can say.
Thanks for this info. I'm disappointed in the original writers not being retained. I wish I could see how their ideas would have developed the show.
I normally like romance in my dramas, but I think I like this drama better without it. Shen Yi and Du Cheng's relationship (I see it more as mentor/pupil or big brother/little brother, but I know others disagree) is really too interesting to spoil.
