Others coming here to bring up Destined which I think is pretty mediocre imo. There’s definitely a difference in taste. It’s just extremely interesting to see some of these opinions when in c-ent everyone’s talking about how this is one of the xianxia dramas with the best story, acting, cgi, and quality in recent years. I’m just really happy it’s topping every chart and breaking records. While toping the WeTV viewing charts of over 15 countries and counting. I’m really excited to see it broadcast on Netflix this Friday. 🥰

My review of episodes 9 & 10:
So far episodes 9 & 10 are my favorite.
I love how wise and strong Shi Ying is. He’s cunning when he needs to be. And gentle when he should be. Watching him outsmart the Power of Chaos was amazing. Shi Ying and Zhu Yan are growing closer. There’s already a level of trust between them. The ending scene of episode 10 between the two was really beautiful! 🥰

Omg! The cgi in episodes 9 & 10 are incredible! Some of the best I’ve ever seen! The scenes in the library and then in the forest were gorgeous. Those scenes were so magical. This drama just keeps getting better! 😍

I don’t think that scenario exits. There’s no escaping their destiny. Personally, I think it’s inevitable that SY is going to die because he knows she’s his calamity and he refuses to kill her. 😭

Hi everyone! Here’s an in-depth explanation on how Zhu Yan became Shi Ying’s death calamity:

When Shi Ying "died" no one prayed for him and his name wasn't written in the palace. So his “death” is not real. Zhu Yan, however, prayed for him and read his soul rites. So this makes the whole thing become a lie which is against the rules of magic. Magic has to right what happened. So Zhu Yan praying for him results in her becoming his death calamity. So following this logic if Shi Ying kills Zhu Yan, then the only person who mourned him will be dead and his "death" will not be real. And if ZY kills SY, then her mourning him will not be wrong because he'll truly be dead.

I’m so happy Xiao Zhan made Shi Ying playful with a good sense of humor. Usually actors in these types of roles make their character really cold and aloof. Xiao Zhan makes Shi Ying really likeable and gives him so much depth. He’s so expressive! I know I can always count on him to give an amazing performance. ♥️

P.S. I noticed that Chong Ming kept drinking Shi Ying’s dirty brush water. He did it twice and SY saw both times and didn’t say anything. Made me laugh so hard. 🤣

Episode 8 so far is one of my favorites. We see some progress in the relationship between Shi Ying and Zhu Yan. The bridge scene was done so beautifully. Shi Ying having no good memories except those of his mother was so sad. My Shifu! 😭 Another thing I like is that we start to see how Shi Ying falls for Zhu Yan. The drama keeps getting better and better. I’m looking forward to seeing them grow closer together in the upcoming episodes.

Xiao Zhan in white is God’s gift to human kind. That man looks good in everything. Those white robes are on a whole other level tho! 😍

Shi Ying finally had his coronation. He looked so handsome and ethereal. 🥰
His master is more cruel and cunning than I thought. Didn’t expect him to outright try and kill those other disciple contenders to get what he wants. I get that he loved Shi Ying’s mother and wants to avenge her but she would hate and despise him for using her son. I have a feeling he’ll play a part in breaking up SY and ZY.
The scenes of Shi Ying and Zhu Yan inside the ball of chaos were some of my favorite. The chemistry developing between the two is really good. Also it broke my heart that Shi Ying doesn’t really have any happy memories. But knowing that meeting each other was a happy memory for both really warmed my heart. I’m really looking forward to seeing their relationship progress. 💕

Man I’m so SO GLAD they did some changes of the story from the novel for the drama. So many improvements already! I hope they continue to set this really high bar. 🥰

Let’s see if I can explain this properly. So when Shi Ying “died” Zhu Yan was the only one who performed rites on his soul. That should only be done on the dead and not on the living so when she did that she became his death calamity. I guess his master somehow prophesied that they would meet. And when that happens she’ll eventually cause his death.

Really good! I was hesitant cause I don’t favor costume dramas. But I’m already on episode 6. The plot is really moving along nicely.

OMG! I finally fully understand why Zhu Yan is Shi Ying’s calamity. You’re not supposed to perform rites on a living person and since she was the only one who did when she thought he died she became his death calamity.
