There’s not much that can be done when other fandoms are purposely giving the drama a 1 star. I wish there was a way for MDL to regulate malicious scoring but at least it’s up to 8.0 now. Hopefully more fair scores will come in and fix the rating.

Ok so there’s actually one thing I can critique. I can’t sympathize with Yuan at all. It’s like I forget he exists until he pops up on my screen and then I remember he’s in the drama. 😅

Watch The Youth Memories. In my opinion, it’s Xiao Zhan’s best drama and best acting performance so far.

Episodes 19 & 20 Spoilers

Shi Ying and Zhu Yan broke my heart. Shi Ying finally sent her away. 😭 And he gave her his family heirloom, the Jade bone that was given to Bai Wei as a gift from the emperor. He said he would never give it to any other woman. He truly loves her! 😭

And poor Zhu Yan spent the entire two episodes pining after him. Every time she called for him broke my heart. She’s trying to deny her feelings bcs she thinks it’s not right to “dirty” her Shifu’s priesthood with her thoughts.

The scenes in the “wishing tree” were so beautiful! Thee most gorgeous scenes I’ve ever seen in a cdrama. The drama team really went all out! Shi Ying’s and Zhu Yan’s scene were so beautiful and heartbreaking. And him sending her those wedding gifts and congratulations were too much. She looked heartbroken. 💔

The previews for episode 25 make me want to scream. 😍

I’m still not over the “wishing tree” scenes. They were soooo ethereal. I don’t think a cdrama scene has left such a beautiful impression on me. The visuals were out of this world. I saw a bts and they carved out a fake tree. So they combined practical effects with cgi and it turned out so beautifully! 😍

Shi Ying’s real reason for keeping Zhu Yan away is that she’s his only temptation to the mortal realm and he doesn’t want to betray his priesthood. I think he also wants to protect her but his main reason is that he’s fallen for her. So he doesn’t want her near.

Actually, I think it’s more so because she represents his only temptation to the mortal realm. I think he’s using that as an excuse. His real reason is that he doesn’t want to betray his priesthood. It’s better to keep his “temptation” away.

So the Netflix schedule has been released. Starting on 7/11 Netflix will release 2-3 episodes per day until the finale on 7/27.

Spoilers Episodes 17 & 18 ‼️

These two episodes were a roller coaster of emotions. Zhu Yan fell in Bai Xuelu’s trap causing Shi Ying to yet again interrupt his ideal form to save her. Shi Ying was so badass. Even with half power he is a force to be reckoned with.

The underwater scene was so beautifully shot! The kiss scene was everything. I gasped when the ring finally showed up when Shi Ying’s life was in peril. He will probably have to leave priesthood soon.

There were two big revelations in these two episodes. Zhu Yan finally knows that Shi Ying is the Crown Prince while Shi Ying finally admits to himself that he has feelings for Zhu Yan. Seeing him take that punishment broke my heart and now he’s determined to send her away. I’m afraid he will suffer so much more. 😭

Xiao Zhan is receiving well deserved praise from drama watchers for his portrayal of Shi Ying’s pain in Episode 18. For those other costume idol dramas the male lead spits blood in these types of scenes. Instead Xiao Zhan shows the character is undergoing immense pain through sweat and tears. Even his veins/blood vessels are visibly strained. I wish more actors put this type of details in their performance. I’m tired of seeing so much blood spitting. 😅

I completely agree with your assessment. I think those who think they don’t have chemistry aren’t actually paying attention to the characters ideals and what the plot demands. The romantic chemistry should be gradual. That’s the whole point of character development .

Episodes 15 and 16 were so good! I think our dear Shifu is starting to fall for Zhu Yan. When he covered her in his robe my heart fluttered. 😍 Meanwhile, Zhu Yan wishes to stay with him forever and is waxing poetic over how handsome he is. As a priest these feelings are very taboo and I have a feeling he will be punished for them. Can’t wait to cry again. Lol. Also, I want to say that the special effects for the Dragon in episode 16 were incredible. And Shi Ying in that salmon colored robe was a blessing for my eyes. So handsome!
