I thought Shi Ying already hit us with his best looks. But my god him in Red is a whole other level of handsome/ethereal. I couldn’t stop staring and had to keep rewinding to read the subtitles. 😍
These two episodes were SO GOOD! I rewatched both already. The fight scene in episode 25 was one of the best so far! Seeing Shi Ying arrive like a shooting star to help Yuan was so cool! That was a team up I didn’t know I needed! My Shifu got injured saving his so called “rival.” He’s so noble and kind! When he quickly picked up Zhu Yan’s handkerchief to clean it my heart soared. He really loves her! 😭 Hope she’s deserving of his love! I also caught Yuan’s stare when he saw it. 👀
Looks like Zhu Yan’s cultivation is improving! She learned from the best so I expect nothing less. Seeing her “bully” Shi Ying into complying so she could take care of him was really funny. She hit him with the uno reverse. 🤣 She basically had him gagged and tied up! How naughty! When she kept “accidentally” dumping the medicine on him. I don’t believe her for a second. She just wanted to undress him. 😏
I loved the scenes when they pretended to be married. Calling each other dear and her holding on tight to his hand was so cute! I need more! I also really loved the mountain scene. It was so romantic! 🥰 I hope we can enjoy more sweet scenes before the angst starts!
We’ve finally reached the present time in the drama. We see how Zhu Yan was able to escape her wedding temporarily. She meets Sumo and his mother. And ends up saving him. And that meeting results in the Evil Star rising. More problems yay!
Shi Ying leaves Jiuyi Mountain to investigate. He ends up at Zhu Yan’s wedding and of course drags her back to teach her a lesson. 😅 Shi Ying’s cultivation has improved so much. Seeing him easily stop those arrows and send them back was so cool! I also thoroughly enjoyed the scene where he punished Zhu Yan. More of that please! 🥵
A drama watcher made a connection over the hand smack and now I’m more obsessed with that scene. This scene is a call back to when Zhu Yan smacked Shi Ying playfully by the wishing tree. SY thinks this is how you “punish” someone (something he’s never done before) because of Zhu Yan. She brought this on herself. Literally. 🤣

1st time? Idk how you feel about modern period dramas but The Youth Memories takes place in Beijing during the 70’s. It is Xiao Zhan’s best drama and is already getting award buzz.
So I’ve been dragging my feet with this review because these two episodes with barely any Shi Ying were torture. 😩 All I can really say is that the “break up” scene by the “wishing tree” was so heart breaking. Shi Ying admitting to himself that Zhu Yan is the person he most cares for in the mortal world broke my heart. My poor Shifu is always suffering! I just want him to be happy! 😭 I also want to say that I’m glad the plot is moving forward with Shi Ying investigating the ice clan and that the story is finally reaching the present one in the drama from episode 1. Also, I feel bad for Yao Yi and Yuan. ZY really made a mess of things for them. 🤦🏻♀️
It’s more than obvious that Zhu Yan’s feelings for Yuan are not romantic at all. He watched her growing up. So of course she has affection for him. But it’s familial. The drama has clearly shown that the only romantic feelings she has are for Shi Ying. When Yuan was describing what it means to be in love, Zhu Yan immediately thought of Shi Ying. She also pines for Shi Ying. She has never day dreamed about Yuan when she was away from him. On the contrary, she dreams about Shi Ying and even hallucinates him. Don’t be like Yuan and confuse Zhu Yan with Yao Yi. 😅
I got already enough of this zhuyan-yuan plot in the book. Thank god drama focused on SY-ZY romantic part. Just…
Same. I’m so glad the drama completely changed it so ZY has no romantic feelings for Yuan. So the romantic focus is on her and Shi Ying. I do feel bad for Yao Yi tho.
I like the changes they made for the drama. But I also feel bad for Yuan. Zhu Yan has no romantic feeling for him but her stunt has him thinking his Yao Yi came back as her. Complications are starting. Hopefully, this will help push Zhu Yan and Shi Ying together.
