Her dominating presence is something that's futile for him to ignore. ML is the no.1 stoic tsundere, but no matter how hard he tried to resist he would ended up succumbing to her alluring, mesmerizing, and commanding charisma that'd suck him in like a magnet lol. If only this could be made into full-length drama ToT. I need more of this cp!
He loves her but treats her like trash, intentionally making her misunderstand and hate him by humiliating her and hurting her. His communication skill is nonexistent and he didn't treasure her company while he still had it. If anyone to love me this way i'd rather cut ties with him. Although it may feel gloriously tragic and angsty on screen (which draws me in to this drama initially), irl it would be considered toxic behaviours, aka a recipe for disaster (but we're in the dramaland so who cares lol).
If you find stupid misunderstandings triggering, but still wanna find out what transpires, I strongly suggest reading the recaps with spoilers first and see whether your heart can withstand being trampled upon for 30 hours, because ~45 out of 49 eps the 2 leads would creatively torture each other, especially ML who pretended as and acted like a jerk for the majority of the times. But if you're an angst-enthusiast who also enjoys watching ML's obstinate fixation with his noble idiocy and FL's masochistic struggle with cognitive dissonance between whether to love or to hate, dive right in cuz this is tailor-made for you.
From the comments I guess i'm gonna take a pass on this. First, I hate it when characters act uncharacteristically out of nowhere, just for the sake of creating drama. Because those plot devices really ruin my love for the characters themselves. Second, I seriously detest the "I'm gonna pretend to hook up with someone else so you would own up your feelings towards me" trope. It's emotional blackmail, nothing more. It's rage-inducing and drains the respect i have for the character, which is the last thing i wanna experience.
it's a shame the ending was so rushed. FL accepted her new identity after finding out everyone has been lying to her just like that?? And she forgave ML at the drop of a hat. How was her feeling of betrayal resolved exactly? So basically all the buildup to climax was for nothing??? What a total waste of time.
Came here because Wang Run Ze gave me severe second lead syndrome in Don't Disturb My Study. His acting is as expected, and a lot more mature on top of that.
In this drama, their chemistry saved the whole thing. The plot lacks a sense of urgency, coupled with the poor production, which makes watching this feel like a chore. I couldn't care less about the company aspect and had to rely a lot on the fast-forward button because the pacing is really draggy. Also, this is a fantasy drama so you need to suspend your belief to watch this.
Nevertheless, once you learned about their past/backstory, aka the reason why ML came, their chemistry would shoot over the roof. The kisses were heart-fluttering, teeming with longing and affection, which makes the entire show worth watching.
- Pros: well-written plot and dialogues. Natural acting with sweet chemistry. Nicely built characters who actually use their brains, communicate, and react rationally. No one-dimensional villain. No stupid misunderstanding. Angst-free. A parody of cliches.
- Cons: has some minor plotholes. Bad CGI. Not enough heart-fluttering and highlight moments that are worth revisiting.
I'm impressed by how both leads embodied their characters and how their emotions were portrayed. Worth watching if you want a fluffy, angst-free romance with solid character development and a plot that makes sense.
This mini series has the best plot and execution. And strangely i love the bittersweet ending. The angst is thoroughly highlighted, leaving a poignant, lingering aftertaste. It's just the dubbing is kinda bad and out of sync, and editing is sometimes choppy. That said, it's a solid 8.5 for me.
At first when i saw the bad review I thought it was an overreaction, but turns out it hits the nail on the head. The script is written by a hormonal teenager to fulfil her absurd fantasy that would never happen irl. Aside from the draggy, cliched, and far-fetched plot, their chemistry is super forced, flimsy, unconvincing, and poorly developed. The misunderstanding makes zero sense and can be easily avoided with communication. I don't understand FL's need to keep her identity a secret from ML when all she needed to do is to sit down and explain her situation. Gosh the decisions those characters made are just mind-boggling to me.
What's more vexing is how rage-inducing and one-dimensional the characters were written, especially the males, who are the epitome of toxic masculinity and noble idiocy. ML is shallow, immature, jealous in a very unreasonable and possessive fashion, and quick to jump to conclusion. His character is also inconsistent. One moment he's perceptive and overly fussy about her needs, and would take her side and trust her unconditionally; the next he's cluelessly insensitive and doesn't recognize why she's angry, then he refused to listen to her reason nor have any shred of trust in her and thus neglected her. The amount of ignorance and inconsistency is just too much. Apart from that, both 2FL and 2ML are revolting scums who rationalize their toxicity under the guise of love; but nothing compared to FL's despicable twin, who's driven by self-entitlement, pure greed, unjustifiable malice, and mindless jealousy. Most infuriatingly, all those evil deeds would be absolved with a mere apology and no redemption.
Both leads give me so much secondhand embarrassment 🤦♀️ *cringe*. I was willing to overlook the forced chemistry and wait until it becomes natural, but after ep18 it still feels forced af. I came here for the steamy kiss but realized it's just not worth it.

this is what they call "it's so bad it's good"
