On ep16 and I gotta say, Jeremy Tsui's characters always leave a profound impression on the audience. He excels at playing a pitiful but hopelessly romantic jerk that i can't help falling for. In this drama he's an annoying prick that gets on my nerves, yet i can't bring myself to hate him even if i try, and i wanna comfort him instead (there's only so much cognitive dissonance i can handle lol). His backstory as well as organic acting was so convincing he got me misty-eyed despite being a mere support character. His chemistry with his costar is way better than the main couple here. The buildup to the main cp's romance is inadequate and unconvincing, thus i don't buy it.
This is the best instalment among the 3, with solid plot and sizzling chemistry that kept me hooked from beginning…
Compared to season 2, season 3 is nowhere as enjoyable. After finishing the latest season i highly suggest skipping it because of its weak plotline, clunky and unconvincing dialogues, and poor, inconsistent character writing that undermines the leads' appeal.
It's an okay watch, but the plot, character development, and chemistry are a lot weaker compared to the 2nd and…
on ep22 and ML's line when he recalled everything got me melted. He regains his place as one of my favorite top 10 ML. I guess i hate it when he's being amnesiac and defensive. -- on ep23 and I can't believe FL, who came from modern age, is lectured by ML, who was born in historical era, about the true meaning of gender equality lol. This part is just to force-inject some philosophy, and in doing so it sacrifices character consistency. -- finished it. The ending is very forgettable. Overall it's an average watch since it got draggy and repetitive.
It's an okay watch, but the plot, character development, and chemistry are a lot weaker compared to the 2nd and 1st instalments. Dialogues are at times very clunky/unnatural. I can't believe FL, who came from modern age, is lectured by ML, who was born in historical era, about the true meaning of gender equality. Besides, all the crazy-ex-coming-back mishap weakens the foundation of their love. Turns out FL is not his first love, she only resembles her. It feels as if ML was initially attracted to his ex's face, and FL is his ex's substitute lol. ML once said to FL he waited for her for lifetimes, when he was still in the magical land, which gave me the impression that FL is the ex's reincarnation and one day they'll merge as one, but turns out she's not. Also, the writer just had to turn the ex into a crazy b*tch to make ML resent her. But she has the same face as FL for god's sake.
Acting- and character-wise, there are some things that would feel adorable and endearing if ML does it, but FL wouldn't be able to pull off, and vice versa. For FL, whether when she feigned being wounded and frail, or when she pouted indignantly or enviously, or when she whined about her lack of effort and talent, those moments feel really off-putting. On the other hand, ML's reluctance in the relationship (aka playing hard to get), nonchalantly unbothered reactions, unwillingness to put in effort to maintain the romance (ep21), refusal in labour division, and purposefully withholding information from FL make him significantly less attractive, knocking off the chemistry.
That said, I hope there would be another instalment that explores the origin of FL's power (better yet in the modern dimension), since I know she has immense power in the past but never really got to see its full potential in the drama. I just hope she would stop being rescued by ML every single time and become the rescuer instead.
This is the best instalment among the 3, with solid plot and sizzling chemistry that kept me hooked from beginning to end. ML's unyielding love for FL is everything, and Xing Zhao Lin portrayed him so well with his on-point expressions.
On ep21 and grandpa-grandson bromance alert. Dang the lads have so much chemistry i can't help but ship them 😆. -- final ep and FL's mantra got me roflmfao 😆🤣
okay i decided to drop when FL started to act jealous and nosy. She's a psychologist who understands how emotions…
lol i dropped it because i can't stand both leads, and the plot and character writing make zero sense to me. They've already given me too much secondhand embarrassment and cringe already. Fictional or not, till half of the drama they still couldn't give me a reason why i should carry on, so i don't see the point wasting my time torturously enduring the discomfort of watching this.
As for your quote: "You accuse the FL of the same behaviors you display here.", do you mean I'm jealous of her being self-entitled, immature, clingy, or her inability to stand up for herself thus landing in a hapless, helpless, and miserable situation created by an overbearing and emotionally incompetent ML who treats her poorly? No thanks. I watch cdramas in search for the feeling of jealousy towards FL, but FL here has nothing to be envious about.
I started this hoping it would be a great comfort-drama, not to hate on it, as hating doesn't do me any good. As i said, I'm seeking for entertaining series to enjoy my time, not to torture myself nor to vex and stress myself out, so it would be in my best interest if the drama is to my liking. If it's for you then great, congrats, and enjoy. However, turns out it's not for me. I'm not criticizing your taste or view in dramas, so i hope you respect mine.
Some remarks after watching:- This drama is so hilarious it cracks me up multiple times xD.- That said, although…
On ep18 and the story made sense up to this point, until all the clichéd crazy fan trope spanned out and totally ruined the mood (;一_一), which is why i docked the rating. A bad plot device. -- On ep20 and the kid has a knack for acting. Outstanding performance considering his small age. Can't believe he really cried, as his tears feel natural. He has quite some potential. -- On ep21 and I'm so glad the comedy is back xD. Also I'm surprised at the level of emotional delivery of the young casts, whose acting feels really organic. Kudos to the director for successfully capturing those moments.
But i really hate it when ML conceals things from FL and acts on his own, without discussing it with his soulmate. It's a major breach of trust for me when one party in a romantic relationship unilaterally decides on their own without considering the feelings of his/her counterpart. I hate unnecessary misunderstanding, so ML lost a lot of muffin points for this. Also, FL's forgiveness is unconvincing, especially after her feeling distraught and worrying sick about her partner's vanishment without a word. The plot became predictable from this point on. --
Would've been greater had it not been for the "i hurt you and left you coldheartedly because i love you and wanna protect you" trope. This was totally uncalled for as their issue and the whole fiasco could've been easily resolved with a simple explanation. I really hope writer would stop causing their lead characters to suffer by tanking their IQ, turning them into morons who make stupid decisions and sacrifice their relationship in the most cruel and hurtful way in the name of love. This results in needless heartache and dismay, especially when communication is evidently the better and easier option. Misunderstandings are totally acceptable and encouraged, but they need to be executed properly, else they would turn into cringe. I hope the writers invest some effort in writing a more believable plot without sacrificing the characters.
Some remarks after watching: - This drama is so hilarious it cracks me up multiple times xD. - That said, although FL is nice and understanding, her total trust/confidence in ML as well as her forgiving nature and total absence of anger when ML does things alone without telling her are very unrealistic. Why? Because ML didn't trust FL enough to confide in her about his plan which involves her beforehand, and she never had any issue with that, even after all the worry and exasperation/ emotional distress. - ML is sweet but not that great, as he lost a huge chunk of muffin points for his unilateral decisions and inconsideration of FL's feelings; and another huge chunk for mishandling the goose. - Chemistry was okay, but became boring and annoying towards the end as ML refuses to take initiative, until after FL dropped him a bunch of hints.
My verdict: ***Plot: 6.5 ***Character development & chemistry: 6.5 I'd give this a 7.0 because of the comedy. Below is just some rant along the journey with spoiler alert.
I skipped from ep11 to ep25 with no qualms, and also fast forward alot in between. Thank you ff god. This drama is really draggy before ep25, especially with all that unlikable main and side characters, but after FL's miscarriage and her new beginning, it got better. The ending was neatly and sufficiently wrapped up imo. I really hate ML for being a two-timer at first, but seeing his persistence my opinion was swayed. Good for a one-time watch.
