ok i decided to drop this because both leads are so annoying and have no chemistry.
Regarding the leads' chemistry, their romance feels utterly forced and cringey. After ML's super contrived and embarrassing confession i think i just wasted a day of my life only to end up wanting to cry in a corner and bang my head against the wall in exasperation and secondhand embarrassment. I was waiting patiently for their romance to bloom, but then when it did i sincerely wish it hadn't, cuz at least i could have still enjoyed the investigation aspect of the series. I'd rather watch a non-romantic drama with only case-solving content than watching FL repeatedly lowering her value to accommodate ML and getting offended by ML without even feeling offended. She has no self-esteem whatsoever.
In terms of characters, ML's acting is wooden and emotionless, and Wang Zi Qi was unable to turn his robotic & uptight character into someone i can relate. My impression of ML after 25 eps remains unchanged: a puny mechanical character who only knows how to use logic and reason but totally falls short when it comes to expressing feelings. Meanwhile, FL only knows how to obediently cater to ML's temper and doesn't know her own value. They are capable though, and behave in a mature manner for the first half of the drama.
Lastly, i don't think Wang Zi Qi should participate in romantic dramas in the future. This is the second drama starring him that i dropped. I guess he's just not cut out for romance.
on ep23 and FL's inability to get mad at ML is just beyond me! ML unreasonably lost his temper at her and did her wrong many times, but instead of feeling offended, she always bows her head and apologizes to him instead. I liked her initially for her perceptiveness and understanding, but this then turns into subservience, which vexes the hell outta me. That said, at least the investigation was good so far.
9/10 should I talk about the: chemistry? characters? CGA?Graphics? Custom? OST? Soundtrack? best Xian Xia drama…
yeahh i feel the same. It kinda fell short for me after FL's sacrifice. I was expecting some really heart-wrenching scenes of ML mourning FL's death. Was expecting ML would show off his skills in portraying immense grief, anguish, and devastation, somewhat the same level as Ye Hua in Eternal Love/TMOPB (i cried a river there). Instead they made away with some blissfully illusional scenes in ML's suicidal dream (which i think is lame tbf). There's nothing wrong with the dream per se, but the angst goes completely missing, thereby making FL's death on ML's mental health seem not as impactful. And then when ML thought FL was already dead after reviving her, he was not as grief-stricken as i imagined. It felt like he could overcome her demise after some time. Or maybe i expected too much, but the reason i said it fell short for me is because i thought this drama is about ML's recovering and rediscovering his emotions, and pain plays a crucial role. Had the producer let those angsty scenes span out, it would be among my top 5 favorite dramas of all time.
love him a lot in Maiden Holmes. He has amazing chemistry with his co-star, and his acting is so swoon-worthy. He's such a sweet dashing Mr. Perfect. Hope he'll continue leading many many historical romantic dramas in the future.
ep6 FL confessed she liked ML under the influence of drug. Then ML confessed to her after she got sober, to which she rejected lol. ep14 FL agrees to ML's confession.
i read the recap and decided to drop this because I feel enraged and just can't handle the injustice FL had to suffer. I hate the fact that FL is heart-broken because of ML from time to time, be it intentionally or unintentionally. I hate that he gained her forgiveness by making her feel pity for him and triggering her sympathy. Since he got hurt because of her or rescued her, no matter how bitterly resentful or agonisingly angry she felt because of his betrayal, once again she was placed under the situation where she would have no choice but forgive him. It's as if she forgave him out of desperation under the circumstance, not because she willingly chose to do so. Grievance on top of grievance, this is just so unfair and outrageous. Why does FL always have to be the one who suffers but not ML? I truly doubt the writer's ability to resolve a deep-seated grudge. I'm glad I dropped it at ep 42, before all the grievances began, at which point i still have good memories for this drama.
gosh i can't stand FL's mom. She's exactly the type of disapproving mom that daughters (or at least I) may have…
9.0 is overrated. On ep27 and ML's overbearing behavior on everyone gave me an anger flash. FL is defo better off with Yao, where she doesn't feel imprisoned by marriage. She's practically forced into marriage by ML. If i were her i'd do my best to jailbreak out of that wedding cage.
gosh i can't stand FL's mom. She's exactly the type of disapproving mom that daughters (or at least I) may have filial duty but don't want to meet or spend time with.
If only they had tied up some loose ends and resolved the misunderstandings in the middle of the drama, and let…
When he found out about his past, he didn't show any guilt towards FL nor apologize to her at all. She did everything to protect her people, which is also his kind, and all he did was stopping her from doing just that. He helped the person who killed his mom by unknowingly betraying his people, preventing them from freedom and sovereignty. FL rejected him to avoid having to kill him. If she wanted to kill him, she would've done so already. He didn't even realize those even until the end. Just one apology would suffice. *sigh*
If only they had tied up some loose ends and resolved the misunderstandings in the middle of the drama, and let ML figure out his past sooner, this would have become my fav :/ .
3 projects a year. That's intense. Hope he's always healthy and happy so that he could thrive even more in his upcoming projects, and i could bask in his light and enjoy his work. Also hope he'll lead a Netflix series one day.
just rewatched episodes 31-33, and i noticed some loopholes.
- FL killed herself with a fragment of the sword, so why didn't ML kill her in the same manner at the beginning, but waited until all fragments were collected and assembled?
- ML could have teleported to her in time and save her from killing herself, but why did he resort to flying instead?
- ML tried to kill himself with a dream? Such a lame excuse. Gosh why didn't they let my boy mourn and grieve properly? If only they had prolonged the angst of him losing her, which could've elevated the intensity of the pain and engrave it into the viewers' minds, especially when this drama is all about ML recovering and rediscovering his emotions. Dylan Wang played the crying scene sooo well that i was hoping for more, but regretfully that's the only scene that's rewatch-worthy when i want a good cry, since he recovered from her death too quickly with only self-denial (;一_一). I find it kinda unfair for FL and us viewers. What a waste of potential.
- ep 33 ML didn't show any dejection when he was ignored by FL, instead he felt relieved and glad? I think they truncated his grief and dejection scenes, which was a huge mistake imo, cuz i feel robbed. (;一_一)

ep14 FL agrees to ML's confession.
Plus the drunk kiss was never mentioned again :(

That said, Dylan's crying scene is my go-to now.
