wow this role really showcases Yang Zi's talent. Didn't know she could act so well. I saw her in Ashes of Love but didn't like her then. This drama really elevates her to a new height.
A new and unique concept of time travel with strong sense of poignancy permeating across the entire drama, weaving a heart-breakingly beautiful tale of love and destiny. While it's not chemistry-driven, it's still highly recommended for the superb writing and directing of a tight and intricate plot-driven story which i could hardly find any loose ends. I'll defo be keeping an eye out for director Zhi Zhu's future works.
watch for the palace intrigues and outstanding cinematography, not the romance (probably as i think councillor Park is the most intriguing character in the drama imo. His character appeals to me significantly more than the 2 leads). Plot-wise this is well-crafted, but main-character-wise, i can't relate to FL's saintly ability to selflessly understand, tolerate, endure, accept, and forgive. The psychological process of grief has several stages, but she just jumps right to acceptance and forgiving. Regardless of whatever crap ML tosses at her, she might as well just suck it up without complaint. Thoughtless choice resulting in the death of her entire family? Forgiven. Lying and concealing this earth-shattering secret for over a decade and thereby turning her into a victim? Forgiven. Scheming with no regards to the collateral damage, who turns out to be her closest maid aka sworn sister that died from excessive torture? Forgiven. She's been lied to so many times, but she's never given the opportunity to vent properly. If i were her i would have long flipped out at the revelation of ML's long-standing betrayal already. Mary Sue characters just feel disingenuous. Regardless, her brilliant strategic scheming and prediction keep me on the edge of my seat, so I stay for the battle of wits.
ending was quite far-fetched but overall worth a watch. Drama is filled with unexpected twists, commanding my full attention on every episode. Characters were well-crafted and well-acted. It's just that ML's brain tumor seems to be just a plot device, considering how many times he was hit in the head without any consequence lol. And why is this school filled with psychos, bullies, and people with mental/brain issues? :v
After 2 weeks i still couldn't over this drama because of FL's phenomenal acting that left me gutted to my bone.…
lol can't believe i'm still NOT over this :v . I need more dramas starring these 2 veterans. Can't imagine this drama without either of them. Their chemistry is just on another level that i find it so hard to move on to another romance :((((. This really sets the bar too high. I ended up dropping a bunch of romantic dramas already ಠ_ಥ.
Meanwhile, time for some BTS to sooth my severely crushed and wounded soul (╥╯⌒╰╥๑). Typically I don't go digging up or binge-watch behind-the-scene footages since i usually just move on to another drama after finishing one without thinking much, also i tend to detach myself from reading about or viewing the actors irl because it would affect the image i have for the characters. Regardless, this one is an exception because I'm still so hung up on them. God help me i feel hopeless (ಥ﹏ಥ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZmgfw7m-c0
The way characters and plot were written is just so endearing and fulfilling. Especially the badass Yi Seo and the cool Soo Ah. But for the first time i have second lead syndrome for 2FL (who at first i thought was the FL lol). Obviously romance is not why i'm here, because i'm not a fan of love triangles, or in this case pentagon; plus the fact that our OTP lacks chemistry. I was rooting for Soo Ah the whole time because of ML's promise, even though i like Yi Seo a lot. In fact the whole romance felt so unnecessary. But some scenes and dialogues felt so epic and rewatch-worthy. I love the ending, despite the plotholes (and the amount of luck ML has). 9/10 and recommended.
dark and melo, just the way i like. I just love how ML is willing to be FL's partner in crime, her executioner, unconditionally, with no question asked.
I respect your opinion, but I have to say he did very well with his acting. Having read the novel he’s on point…
I'm not talking about skinship. I'm saying their vibes don't click. I'm looking for that soulful connection too but sadly i don't feel it. I've seen no-kiss dramas with sizzling chemistry before (namely Arsenal Military Academy, Shining For One Thing, Rattan), but BFTB is not it. The leads look like they're doing their jobs as actors, as they failed to add depth to their characters. But if you think otherwise then i respect your opinion, and i'm glad you like it. It's not for me though.
