this was a nice drama initially, but it got draggy in the latter half. Imo it's overhyped and overrated. i just don't buy into all the fateful encounters without at least one of them being aware of it. This is just not romantic since it reinforces the preconceived idea about love being fated lol. Coupled with ML's noble idiocy it just make me like ML less... urgh >"<. At some point i stopped caring aka becoming desensitized. Give it a go when you have nothing else to watch.
After 2 weeks i still couldn't over this drama because of FL's phenomenal acting that left me gutted to my bone. While i was wondering how she could give off such a torturous, sorrowful, heart-wrenching vibe of a woman whose life is full of sufferings, i read an article about her and instantly understood. She basically lived through hell, and just happened to manifest it on screen ಠ_ಥ . Her visceral performance is something young A-list c-actresses can never pull off. I'm glad she's leading a happy life now, and hope she could take more angsty dramas like this.
Thank you director for producing Because Of Love. I love the poignant vibe and the organic portrayals of characters, laced with sizzling chemistry from the leads, who have gone through so much sufferings. It's been a while and after several rewatches I'm still having a hard time getting over my withdrawal syndrome with the characters in Because Of Love. If you could make another angsty romance where main leads are separated and meet again after enduring hardships unbeknownst to each other, i would be eternally thankful. Wish you the best! From your fan with love <3
FL's acting is flat & wooden, while ML's acting is so melo, coupled with that horrible tacky OST which instantly kills any romantic feels that may arise >"<. How it gets 8.5 rating is beyond me. Dropped. I suggest watching the episode previews first before deciding whether to watch the whole or not.
i loved this drama can you guys recommend similar one ? and similar to the ML character ?
Le Coup De Foudre has similarly melancholic vibe and lovers separated theme. Similarities: - ML and FL fell in love during high school - FL didn't want to be a burden and broke up with ML due to life obstacles - FL has financial problem while ML is devastated/has psychological problem. - They meet again several years later, but the past misunderstanding prevents them from reconciling. - Passionate kisses after the reconciliation.
Shining for One Thing: not realistic but very angsty and tissue-consuming. I didn't like FL at first but she has huge character development later on. Highly recommend this one.
lol i don't get why everyone is blaming FL. From her pov, can you become the daughter in law of the person whom you are certain is the cause of your father's death before pinning all the shitty things on your dad, leaving you under a crushing debt before tossing a sum of money for you to fix the problem that he himself caused, just to separate you and his son? Yes it was wrong of her for her lack communication and decision to leave, but she really didn't have much of a choice at the time, given her huge financial burden and meagre resource. I wouldn't be able to forgive nor let go of my resentment as well if i were her, despite the fact that ML did nothing wrong (except for not knowing lol).
i might be the minority here, but LHY doesn't look good in ancient costumes. Chemistry is quite lacking here as well. ML's performance is quite flat and underdelivered. Currently on ep24 and 2ML is such a sanctimonious hypocrite who hides behind the mask of upholding justice while trying to justify and would never own up to the shitty things he did. He just doesn't deserve FL in the least. ML fares no better as he still keeps FL in the dark. -- edit: dropped. draggy and full of rage-inducing characters. a waste of time.
I'm glad i didn't take heed of the negative comments. Despite its flaws, I like this drama a lot better than The Romance of Tiger and Rose and Intense Love, mainly because of FL and ML's characters, their well-delivered acting, & their amazing chemistry, and the overall logical progression of plot. I guess the problem with the rating is due to some annoying side characters, the flogging scene, and some plotholes. But all that aside the character writing for our leads were done well with lots of swoon-worthy moments, and i'm attached to both of them.
My verdict: Far from perfect but still highly recommended. Watch if you're in for chemistry and have no qualms ffwd-ing scenes without the leads in later episodes to avoid the draggy parts.
Mind-blowingly witty plot with enigmatically layered characters and phenomenal acting. Currently on ep 7 and Hu Ge's lingering forlorn gaze pierces through my throbbing heart. His microexpressions are refined to perfection. I didn't expect to be so emotionally invested (ಥ﹏ಥ). -- edit: finished. This is a masterpiece. *Sniff* (ಥ﹏ಥ)
FL is a damsel in distress and a pushover and a doormat with a pair of glass ankles, plentiful sob stories, and a habit of monologuing, whereas ML is a cynical possessive self-entitled egoist who behaves like an immature and obnoxious teenager for no reason, frequently reneges on his promises, refuses to admit his feelings, never admits his fault, tends to shift the blame on FL, acts like he owns her, and just happens to eavesdrop her sadfishing monologues. Secondhand embarrassment and SLS galore. Not romantic. No thanks! *cringe*
