IKR? TSL couldn’t improve every trope. I’m just grateful that the Heavenly Empress was kind & YQ didn’t…
yeah. I'm just baffled at the contradiction, since love is strictly forbidden for the emperor's son, why bother marrying him off in the first place lol. It's like an invitation to break the rule.
every xianxia has a tyrannical, sanctimonious, manipulative, racist, and discriminatory emperor who's the father of ML lol. The emperor is always designed to be the bad guy that it's getting boring. Their reasons for banning love and being hell-bent on destroying it are just so absurd (;一_一) . Why can't the writer be more creative on the antagonist?
You mean when she finds out he switched the wedding carriages? That's around ep 17 mark i think. He tells her…
i watched ahead some scenes i really can't stand it when he's the one who lied to her over and over again and she ended up having to apologize. Imma skip him from now on.
which episode does Qing Kui find out she's been lied to? rn i'm really frustrated because of all the lies. Chao Feng doesn't deserve her. His lack of remorse makes me sick.
when i looked up top-rated cdrama this is one of the highest. But i couldn't bring myself to watch it because of the number of episodes, and i wasn't into the costumes. Then i watched the 1st ep and i felt so dumb for putting it off so long T^T. Top-notched production. High rewatch value. For those who are hesitating, don't. Just watch the first ep.
their chemistry feels flimsy and underdeveloped and the first kiss feels premature. I fast-forwarded a bunch of filler scenes. None of the character is interesting enough to keep me hooked. dropped.
On ep1 and i'm digging it already. The opening theme song gives me Downton Abbey and Peaky Blinder vibe, with…
What i love about this show: - Slow-burning & passionate romance of 2 star-crossed lovers that gradually grows in intensity. - Sizzling chemistry with palpable sexual tension & insanely hot kisses (especially the ones on ep29) - Poignant heart throb and riveting angsty story with intricate revenge schemes against the past heinous crimes. - Consistent writing with well-developed plot, coupled with layered & multidimensional characters - Nail-biting suspense and heart-pounding action scenes. - Deep-rooted hatred and intricate revenge schemes. - Dark theme with hidden identities and many twists & turns. The unfolding of the past blood feud was superbly executed, giving me the chills & thrill. - Fast pace that keeps the viewers hooked and away from boredom - The underlying emotions were thoroughly underscored and enhanced by the top-notched cinematography and the nostalgic OSTs. - Astounding cast with on-point & organic acting, especially from FL, whose calm personality, composure, competence, brilliance, resourcefulness, perceptiveness, instinctiveness, maturity, sophistication, independence, assertiveness, resolution, resilience, i'm deeply in awe of. Her crying scenes are heart-wrenching and soul-crushing, leaving me in an emotional wreck after i bawled my eyes out. - ML's relentless pursuit of and undying love for FL. - Karma takes its course and justice is gratifyingly served.
Although the drama has its flaws (poor execution and cringy lines on ep27&38; bad editing and slightly rushed ending on ep40), its abovementioned merits outweigh them. I watched without skipping because it's just that compelling. Really want a special episode of them being together or of him proposing to her. I can't get enough of them. The rating is so unfair. It's a 9 for me. Hidden gem indeed. Wish i could erase my memory of this drama to watch it again.
On ep1 and i'm digging it already. The opening theme song gives me Downton Abbey and Peaky Blinder vibe, with a hint of James Bond. Exquisitely captivating cinematography and nostalgic OSTs. I love the palette, the long shots, and camera angle here, as well as the amount of attention to details. FL is a classy and enigmatically sophisticated woman. Can't get my eyes off of her. Her chemistry with her co-star is insane ( ⚆ _ ⚆ )! Rarely do i see FL commanding the chemistry instead of ML.
btw beware, there are many mistranslations in the English caption, losing the sentiments and some of the (literal and underlying) meaning. The Vietnamese caption is way better. (dunno how it is with other languages tho).
