I actually like the side couple far more than the main one, who seriously lack chemistry. FL is an indecisive damsel in distress and a pathetic glass-ankled crybaby who gave me so much secondhand embarrassment, while ML is a clueless, thoughtless, tactless pain in the ass that made it very painful for me to sit through and watch. FL can't stand her ground for more than 3 days and would change her mind or throw herself at ML as soon as he treats her just a little bit better. Meanwhile, ML is a shallow coward who would rather chicken out at the first sight of obstacle and easily discard/ give up on his love because of a mere casual sentence mentioned in passing, than clarify and confront it. His sulky attitude flips on and off like a switch. So childish, selfish, and unmanly. It's weird and inconsistent because if he gave up that easily, how comes he still hold on to her for 10 years? Where's the logic? FL deserves better though. I wish she would end up with 2ML instead, because he treasures her. Their happy ending feels like an insult for me. I feel nothing when they reconcile, and actually enjoy their breakup. Kisses were good though, that's why i started and finished this.
is it a cliffhanger? should i wait till ss5 comes out? I've been eagerly waiting for this, but i'd rather wait for another few months than be left hanging :'< .
normally i wouldn't go for drama with 'Female Chases Male First' tag, because i'm afraid FL would be clingy, whiny, childish, annoying, wayward, and embarrassing. But i gave this a shot because i'm on a binge for Gong Jun, and this turns out to be surprisingly entertaining, because FL here is so cool lol. She is overbearing and unreasonable sometimes, but idk how she always makes me go soft haha. I think FL's and ML's stereotypes are swapped here, and when i view Gong Jun under the lense of a tsundere female lead, and FL playing the role of the cold, rich, overbearing ML, this got a lot better. FL chases and protects her man, instead of the usual ML protecting his woman. Ep 30 is my favorite. Overall worth a watch.
I didn't read all of your comment (blame it on my short attention span), but i can see that you like LX's character in your passionate defence of him. I agree with what you said (although i haven't finished reading lol). I also think what Gao did was evil and he deserves to be punished, and that LX is well-intentioned and never tried to harm anyone.
In fact you don't need to be angry. I'd like to clarify that I was not tryna justify Gao's wrongdoings and flaws, nor blame it on LX. I'm not trying to debate what's right or wrong. I just look at what happened from Gao's point of view, since his character speaks to me and provokes my thoughts. From an ordinary, aspirational, and good-natured student, Gao was emotionally pushed to the point of breaking bad, transforming into a despicable decadent villain. Gao feels like a real human with real feelings and flaws, rather than just a drama character, namely the cold and arrogant genius or a girl with unlimited capacity to understand, forgive, tolerate, and endure (she feels like a saint lol). His bad side was triggered by what happened to him. I can understand his rage and his need to release it, as well as his inferiority, sadness, bitterness, grief, fear, obsession, guilt, which gradually fester after the 3 abovementioned events. Those emotions were portrayed so naturally that i'm thoroughly convinced and was led by them. That's why i said it's satisfying to see him release his suppressed emotion through revenge.
Conversely, LX's character doesn't resonate with me. Irl no matter how smart a person is, if he flaunts his arrogance and superiority, or has no qualms demeaning people and making them feel like trash (knowingly or unknowingly), I wouldn't hold him in high regard.
PS: pls chill out and don't come at me for not liking LX, cuz that's just my impression of him.
3 times before old Gao snapped: 1st, he worked his ass off for a contest, only to end up as a clueless bystander who contributed nothing to the project and got exposed on stage in front of other high-profilers by his beloved teammate who could've told him beforehand but didn't. 2nd, he worked his ass off with his sworn partners to realize their mutual dream, only to end up as an outsider when all his work got sold without his knowledge by his beloved comrades, one of whom told him his opinion doesn't matter for the outcome. Now i know LX got his reason but let's just look at the matter from old Gao's perspective here, just a phone call to inform would suffice, but LX didn't even bother to do that. 3rd time Gao worked his ass off for his dream, only to witness it crumbled in public by his beloved friend (i fastforwarded too much so i don't remember the details of this).
Those and the many times he witnessed LX being a dictator/jerk to others, plus the person he likes doesn't like him but LX (not LX's fault but it made matter worse for Gao). For those reasons, Gao was thoroughly convinced LX is someone who doesn't have any consideration for humans around him, hence he lashes back in the most destructive way with an aim to tear down and teach that arrogant inhumane bastard a lesson, also to unleash his rage and his pent-up resentment over the years. I'm not saying what Gao did was right, but he's been pushed to the point where he could no longer stand it. When he could no longer forgive LX, he made LX unable to forgive him as well. LX's nonexistent communication skill, his disregard for others' efforts and feelings, and his condescending way of talking (basically him being a jerk) are for the most part to blame for this, even if that wasn't his intention.
Gao's grievances resonate with me, and i can really feel his deep-rooted grudge, that's why i root for Gao's success in exacting his revenge and in proving that he was right. But i know deep down he just wanna be proven wrong, that LX still has a shred of humanity in him and that he sees Gao as a friend who shows him the respect he deserves.
it indeed was, especially considering how many times ML humiliated him in the past, trampling on his dignity over and over, without considering about his or anyone's opinion, much less feelings. I would resent him if i were Gao too.
on ep15 and my gosh ML if you intend to rescue a person from drowning, is it too much to drag her out of the water…
i know. i mean under the circumstance, is it more logical to pull her out of the water first, instead of suffocating and drowning together with her? I mean he's no wuxia superhero with superpower, but a human with a limited lung capacity lol. IRL if he did that, both would've died already.
I would rate the 1st half 9.0 and the second half 7.0. The former was nicely fleshed out, while the latter ruined it all as the writer wrote the drama into a corner. HE but not a satisfying one.
yah. I finished the show but i agree that ML is an ass. If you wanna see him get his karma, watch ep23 when he got jailed and lost everything to Gao. Timestamp is around 19:43. Convo last for 5 mins.

on ep15 and my gosh ML if you intend to rescue a person from drowning, is it too much to drag her out of the water first instead of kissing her underwater? You can kiss her later on shore. This is no time for romance here. Life is more important! 🤦♀️
On ep 13 and it's very hard for me to feel any connection to the characters here, as the writing is so absurd and full of plotholes. I have to constantly suspend my belief (with much difficulty), which also impacts the chemistry between leads, as i find it very unconvincing due to the weak buildup and illogical events that lead to their romance. I started this because of the handsome guys here lol. FL's acting is average, and her friend is so annoying, but nothing compared to the 2FL, who is so clingy to someone she barely even knows. Clearly the writer doesn't know how to write a good female character. Watching at x2 speed.
Am at Episode 12. I have a question. Why did he put her in the bathtub and turn on the water while shielding the…
i guess he needed to lower her temperature to prevent inflammation resulting from the allergic impact, else she would have had trouble breathing. He shielded her face so she wouldn't get choked by water imo. As for the outfit i think he changed it. It's not the same one she wore earlier. (Which means he saw her naked, but i find it weird since the director didn't show us that, cuz i'm curious about his reaction. Or maybe he did it while being blindfolded? 🤔)
solid drama with well-written plot and character development. It doesn't feel rushed at all, despite being a short series. ML has a sexy deep voice which sounds like music to my ears. Recommended.
why do i have the feeling that they cut all the kiss scenes? Or at least 2 of them. :"
regardless, it was an enjoyable watch, full of fluff and quite light-hearted. ML did very well for his age. I love his character, a devoted and caring husband. The 2nd couple was quite bland though. And i find ML's older bro unconvincing for a villain, with his annoying overacting and all.

lol that was a long rant.
