lol, other than being a xianxia drama, how is this drama similar to TMOPB? TMOPB was not the first drama to have…
Wow , you’ve seen a lot of of these! I’ve seen none of the ones you’ve mentioned, that’s probably why the similarities are so present for me. I’ve only seen so many. but now I have some more series to consider once I’m in the mood for Wuxia dramas again. Thanks for the info!

True, but it was the combination of gods falling in love, the girl not knowing/ memory loss, and the otp living a long time in the mortal realm that gave be specificTMOPB flashbacks :-/

Same! I had to pause a few times and come back just to finish that part :'-(

I applaud the fresh plot and the gaming graphics were spectacular. It was the gaming element that kept me coming back. THAT being said... Park Shin Hye smh. I keep trying to give her the benefit of the doubt because she is often attached to great projects,, and i appreciate her effort and can see glimmers of amazing talent in these roles. BUT I can't help thinking how much more I'd be invested if another actress took her place. (Just my personal preference). The romance was so nonexistent, until it wasn't for the purposes of the plot and what was there was simply lacking. How Jin Woo and Hee Joo went from hate to love wasn't as heartfelt and developed as much as the gaming plot (mercifully). So if you came because of the romance tag, it makes up about 10% of the actual story. Oh well. the other 90% was a great ride! I felt for Jin Woo: seeing his journey, all of his loses because of a darn video game he couldn't escape was heartbreaking. And I cried like a baby when Jung Hoon died and THEN EVEN MORE when he reappeared as an ally! That was a masterful piece of storytelling that sucker punched me right in the feels! If they had left out that pitiful excuse for a romance I would have rated this much higher....

Well, it is very common that ML had a crush in youthful days. And this is purely based on webtoon so Yi Seo is…
Same! I Totally shipped them In the first few epi just didn’t know what to do with her character once they grew up: root for her, hate her, ship her with Guen Won, Sae Ro Yi? Plus she kept snitching on ML, whether she meant to or not. She just left me feeling icky.

This one snuck up on me. It did take me a while to finally get to watch it because I didn't think a kdrama that was on Netflix would be any good or it would be too Americanized. Don't know why, but i did. Instead this series gave me all the usual tropes but gave me just enough twists, comedy, romance and drama that I couldn't help but come back for each episode. I will say that i personally hated Soo Ah. Her unwillingness to choose a side (or maybe because she chose the 'bad' side but continued to pop up as Sae Ro Yi's friend) rubbed me the wrong way. I was just confused and I just needed her to commit to SOMETHING 100%! Fortunately Yi Seo stepped up to be the tough female lead I slowly began to love as Sae Ro Yi's equal not knowing that she was becoming the FL! If this were the usual trope, Soo Ah and Sae Ro Yi would've ended up together (youthful crush to OTP and all). SO glad this drama took a left. That plot element helped the drama develop nicely IMHO :-)

I love this drama. Its currently my favorite kdrama ever followed by nothing. I am picky and get ? by most shows…
You should definitely try king of dramas. It’s the exact same feel but completely different plot. If you like that odd mixture of goofy comedy and intense drama you’d like that one!
On When the Camellia Blooms Jul 23, 2020
Title When the Camellia Blooms Spoiler
Really enjoyed this drama. Its been a while since Gong Hyo Jin has been in a romantic series I could really get behind, & this was worth the wait. Mystery, romance, crime, family, comedy, it has it all. I like when dramas don't just focus on 1 genre, it gives the plot and characters more depth and makes it seem more realistic. Life isn't just one thing, its everything happening all at once. I will say that I wish the score was a bit higher, but I could understand this not being for everyone. This is a slow burn on ALL fronts: the romance takes nearly half the drama to really get started, the neighborhood ahjummas take just as long to warm up to Dongbaek, & the crime/mystery takes a while to take center stage. Plus, situations became repetitive with characters giving the same excuses over and over (gotta make that ep count, I guess). But if you stick with it the series is like a gentle hug after life knocks you down. My biggest pet peeve is they way everyone treated Jong Ryul. Don't get me wrong, he needed to get his act together & acted like a real jerk sometimes, but the fact that everyone treats him like a deadbeat dad even after they find out that he knew nothing of his son's existence really bothered me. I mean, he had a few months to get used to suddenly having an 8 year old and truly struggled on how to be a father to him. I get Dongbaek feeling a certain way towards him but she made a choice, and is blaming Jong Ryul on how he handles it without giving him any advice. And the show ends without Jong Ryul claiming Pil Goo as his son?! That entire situation irked me.

Title The Fiery Priest Spoiler
I enjoyed this drama sooo much more than I thought I would! I love when a series really allows each member of the ensemble to shine, which is hard to do with such a big cast, but everyone (including the villains) had meaningful character development & attention paid to their background. This made it particularly heart-wrenching when anyone got hurt or had a truly dramatic scene, but I loved it! I'm giving a solid round of applause to whoever decided to make Sister Sarah & Father Sung Kyu important characters that not only drove the plot, but had story lines of their own. It just added to the whimsy & comedy that surrounded the church (everyone has a past X-). Side note: Cheol Bum & his crew were EVERYTHING!!! (You won't think so when you start watching, but trust me, it'll come:-)& he was such a good antagonist for Father Hae Il. (Sort of like the bully on the playground that eventually becomes your friend?), I wish he would've ended up with a better deal/somehow been more innocent so he & his gang could have worked with the "good guys" in some capacity. I could totally see that happening in a season 2 ;-) Just saying. My only real gripe is that Park Kyung Sun was just too much for me. I'm not sure her brand of comedy fit seamlessly with everyone else. It was less sincere & more overacting & I cringed whenever she did her weird phoenix arm thing. I get what they were doing but....no thanks.

Title Tell Me What You Saw Spoiler
I adored this drama. I'm usually not too big of a fan of dramas that don't have any romance, but every now & then a crime or action drama will sneak its way onto my PTWL & really make me take notice. I fully admit to coming here solely for Jang Hyuk, but I almost dropped it because I'm not used to seeing him in such a dark/antagonist role. Glad I stuck with it, because I really ended up loving him in this! And his mentor/mentee relationship with Soo Young was downright heartwarming and thrilling at times. He pushed her & she more than returned the favor, & the trust they built was twisted but solid (IMHO) amongst all the chaos & betrayal. There are also some solid friendships that more than made up for a lack of romance, but made it even more tragic when someone would get betrayed or die. Man Soo's death def broke my heart! I would recommend this to anyone BUT there are 2 things that really irritated me that I just can't get over.

1. The fact that when Na Jun Suk (the profiler at the beginning) dies from strangulation everyone just watches it happen. I could understand the audience and regular citizens sitting back in shock but, seriously?! All those police and no one is rushing the stage to help until he is nearly 5 feet in the air?! Even if they thought he was chocking, offer some water or SOMETHING! Ugh, I wish that was written/directed/executed better.

2. Hyun Jae's 2 scars on his face always looked fresh, even though it has supposedly been 5 years since the accident that caused them & (I think a year) over the course of the show. I for one hate when Kdramas show a horrific accident in one ep and in the next ep (which is usually a couple days, they're all healed!) Lies. But it was the opposite here. Idk what the makeup artist was thinking but...nah fam.

I was in love with this drama for the majority of it’s run & couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t ranked higher. Yoo Ryung was a woman on a mission with a focus & determination I can appreciate in lieu of wishy washy heroines I’ve seen. And Ji Suk and the entire subway team had THE best comedic moments....BUT once it got to the final 4-5 eps I started to see a downward spiral that made me lose interest and become frustrated. Why some characters made the decisions they did, why we were introduced to a key player in the mystery behind Yoo Jin’s disappearance only in the last couple eps, & personally I hate how Ma Ri was so avid on blaming Yoo Jin (an autistic woman, for it all. Even if she hated Yoo Ryung, I found Ma Ri’s behavior during the whole case disgusting). For as good as it was setting itself up to be the ending episodes were incredibly disappointing.

(very mild spoiler warning if you haven't seen ep7)Could someone please explain to me about that mine explosion…
In my opinion she is overly focused on the romance part of her story and tends to overlook other aspects . To Xiao Quian as long as she gets the original ship to sail then everything will be ok and she can go home. Her problem is that now that she is actually a part of the story rather than just observing from the outside as a writer she can’t keep her emotions out of it and keeps changing the story. And since she is so reckless and emotionally driven she can’t help but want to help and save the miners when the problem is right in front of her.
On The Romance of Tiger and Rose Jun 27, 2020
This drama was actually adorable from beginning to end. The writer getting sucked into her own story isn’t new, but the execution was refreshing (although frustrating at times bc the female lead is trying so hard to set things right she can’t recognize her own feelings until it’s nearly too late). The second male lead did hurt my heart a bit but he had his own journey to go through that softened the blow. The ending surprised me by Making sense and leaving me satisfied. I’m used to Cdramas tending to stagnate in the middle and falling apart for the finale. But this series did the exact opposite and for that reason alone gets my recommendation.

Title Oh! My Emperor Season 2 Spoiler
If you enjoyed season 1, then you'll probably really like season 2: when the main leads finally get out of their own way (as well as others way) and get together. I can appreciate that. UNFORTUNATELY, the love triangle? hexagon? whatever it was between Fei Fei, Bei Tang Yi, Mo Ran and YuRan was painfull to watch. Especially towards the end when everyone dies in a bloody massacre still in their one-sided love. And then the "happily-ever-after" where Bei Tang Yi goes to the present is all kinds of confusing. I mean, can we get an explanation?! Because, from what I saw, both he and Jiacheng existed separate from each other but in the same time but there was no explanation as to why, how Bei Tang Yi travelled to Fei Fei's time, what about all the other zodiac characters? So many plot holes/unanswered questions!! I know the audience can assume some of it in favor of the rom-com genre but, come on writers, I can't do your work for you!
On Oh! My Emperor Jun 23, 2020
If you're looking for a fluffy filler to get you to your next drama, this will definitely do the trick. The SLS killed this series for me though. (and it didn't get any better with the 2nd season). If you don't care about the (unnecessary) love triangle, then the 1st season will be an overall cute, and comedic drama that you don't have to think much about.

Title Ashes of Love Spoiler
I loved this drama...for the 1st 20 eps or so. BUT, then I saw that nothing was turning out the way I wanted (and not in a nice surprising kind of way, but in a "oh they're going to fall back on an old trope instead of doing something new" kind of way). Also, I started to get annoyed with the overwhelming similarities to TMOPB (which I didn't like as much as the rest of the viewers on MDL). Especially the plot where the MLs live a human life on earth fall in love again. It took most of the episode count. Wasn't necessary! And then the heart-wrenching love triangle that did not need to happen. Why, oh why, did they make that a thing?! We would have been fine if Jin Mi and Xu Feng had simply fallen for each other without Run Yu getting hurt. I have a real problem with how Run Yu was treated, even by his 'loyal brother' who made a point of overtly stealing his fiance & then getting mad for Run Yu trying to do the same. No wonder he became villainous. I hated that too. (Can i just say I'm sick of nice characters being treated horribly and then made to be the villain because the lead sees them as such. But then everyone in the series wonders why Run Yu turned evil instead of continuing to be treated badly? ARGH!). This was a serious miss for me in what could have been a solid and heartwarming bromance (which is what I thought the beginning was setting up for us). For what the series was: gorgeous CGI and great acting all around, i DO appreciate it, but overall disappointed in how it was handled #SorryNotSorry

This has so many genres wrapped in one adorable series: comedy, some action, romance, food, detective...just name a few! If you're in the mood for a bubbly comedic romance then this will do it for you. The different cases helped to move the overall plot but it also made sure that the story didn't stagnate either. And, yes, the food part of this drama is ever present (ALMOST annoyingly so, but it remains true to its origins of being a food drama & I can appreciate that). Everything that you want to happen does come to pass, which leaves a completely satisfied feeling (at least it did for me). And everything ties up well in the end. I'd recommend this to anyone in the mood for an easy drama with no heart ache :-)
