I REALLY wanted to love this. I anticipated a 10 star treasure, but for some reason that I can't quite name it sort of fell flat for me. The series had a lot of great moments: I cried in the 1st episode, I laughed, I fell in love with some of the characters BUT it was never enough for me to see this as a complete show. I only liked a few bits and pieces, I only liked a few of the characters, I was only interested in a few of the storylines...it never came together for me. And as much as I tried I just didn't end up liking Jin Joo: I understood her and empathized, but I didn't really like her. IDK. it's a solid drama, and I see why so many people love this, but it just didn't do it for me. #SorryNotSorry
Side note: anyone else think, especially in the beginning, that Eun Jung's boyfriend looked like Ji Sung?!!
This series does not disappoint: want a heartfelt bromance? villains you love to hate? an epic romance that transcends borders? a gang of neighborhood ahjummas that will fight with you as well as for you? Then watch! This drama somehow blends comedy and drama so well. I didn't even notice until I found myself hysterically crying sad tears AND laughing at the same time (it was Se Ri's birthday scene, enough said). And as much as I rolled my eyes at the budding romance between Seo Dan and Gu Seung Jun, I still found myself sobbing ugly tears when he died. I could go on but, trust me, I'm sure you'd rather watch 16 eps of drama excellence than read about it. You won't regret it!
NO ONE TOLD ME THIS WAS MULTIPARTS! ugh my heart can't take the waiting! But other than that this was an incredible drama: its sharp & they really took time to flesh out characters & motivations EXCEPT for Wan'er. I'll admit to watching this for the romance tag, & since it was comfortably sitting at 9.2 I was excited. BUT the romance between Fan Xian and Wan'er fell flat for me. Not to say they don't have a few nice & cute moments but I felt more chemistry between him and ANY other female character, including Ruo Ruo and then Duo Duo towards the end. I mean, all these awesome female characters and Wan'er (literally) does nothing and contributes nothing. The fact that Fan Xian loves her is her only purpose. & I really didn't see the point of their romance except to have a romance tag & to move the plot along. But the comedy got me hooked in the beginning & the heart kept me here. Don't let the comedy tag fool you though: you will cry all the tears: happy and heart-wrenching. If only they did SOMETHING with the romance this prob would have been a 10. And can I just say I STILL don't understand where Fan Xian is supposed to be from. They make a point to say its not time travel but the explanations are vague and the imagery threw me off....? Oh well, on to season 2...
Let me start by saying that there are soooo many reasons to NOT like this drama: The lead actress' voice is highly annoying, the subs are terrible, and the wigs are laughable. BUT I really liked this series! It was just a cute and fun wuxia with a young romance in the middle at its heart. I understand people who, for some of the previous reasons mentioned hate this drama or couldn't finish it, but it was just right for me. I will say that towards the end it got a bit messy and Bai Gu Yi's ending was so depressing, as bad as he became I still kinda wanted him to get a happily ever after, BUT i still liked it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The above reviewer is right: this should have just been combined into 1 season. These 18 eps are just one last (not so grand) adventure for the characters we've come to love. I will say that seeing Xiao Fan choose the evil side was interesting, BUT it still would have been better if Bi Yao had awakened halfway through and we could have seen them be together on the evil side. That's all I was looking for. I wonder If Zanilla Zao had a previous acting responsibility? Because even though she is "seen" and has top billing she was not present. Ugh, such a let down :-/
it said a women from the future does that mean she time travel or something?
Yes, she voluntarily goes into the past to find her true love. So it’s not like it’s an accident like in other time travel dramas. They say so in the 1st few minutes of ep 1 so it’s not really a spoiler
This is definitely more of a adventure/coming of age wuxia rather than solely focused on the romance. The romance is more of a way to advance the story and doesn’t really get moving until the 2nd half. Other than that, I really liked how much attention they paid to Nurturing each relationship, platonic & otherwise, especially between the good & evil sects. THAT really made the show for me more than anything else.
Came here for Push and was not disappointed... for the 1st half. I'd say the 1st half of the drama focuses more on the cat and mouse game that Nira played with basically everyone and her falling for Chat. Middway through until the end the melo hits harder and really hammers home the message of acceptance and self love. Never seen a plot like this, even in a Thai drama this was off the walls and I really did not know how it was going to end. I'd definitely recommend, maybe not as an intro to Lakorns, but still...
I think the fact that the "evil guy" is the main romantic lead is what really makes this drama feel new & exciting. The general plot is overdone & basic, but they were able to throw some twists and heart in it to make it feel new. But its the chemistry between Qiu Yue and Chun Hua that made me catch my breath every time. This was exactly everything I didn't know I wanted in a drama. Will definitely revisit again: Cheesy, heartfelt drama with one of the best slow burn romances I have seen. Sigh, I need more like these. :-)
I came here because I was looking for something dark but not TOO melo and I followed Shin Sung Rok to this nail-biting drama. This is a great ensemble and the drama relies heavily on the workings of relationships and how they (eventually) connect. This will not disappoint with the twists and turns and it has no shortage of characters you'll love to hate. & can I just say Sung Rok plays crazy villains SOO well. Give him ALL of the awards!! I love my romances though, so it'd be nice if he were in more of those. Not necessarily rom-coms because his bad guy side is amazing! But something with more heart than just a cold blooded antagonist.
I think this series would have benefited from fewer eps overall and fewer flashbacks (especially seeing as they kept showing the same flashbacks over and over again to really drive home the sense of tragedy. I hate that.It adds nothing new, we've seen it!!) Once again the second ship got me through to the end, which was a shame there wasn't more screen time for Team and Win. I feel like that was a missed opportunity to flesh those characters out. Team was supposed to be a reincarnation too, but if you blinked, you would've missed the mention. Just meh for me, but if you want a melo BL with moments of comedy that has a message: try it.
I just couldn't finish this. On paper it has all the elements I love in a Cdrama: it's historical, with comedy, love to hate romance and an enduring SLS. BUT Yu Jin was soooo mean for so long to Ye Zhao (unprovoked) and she just takes it?! Plus the colors are over-saturated (it hurt to try to marathon it) and eventually I wanted Ye Zhao with ANYONE BUT the main lead. And this was all by ep 20 when I dropped it! Pass!
Came here after The Last Empress (which I think was far superior), but this was a solid drama. There were several times I wanted to drop this bc it just didn't hit as hard as TLE, but MBN is great at ramping up the drama in the last 10 minutes of an ep to make me want to come back. Appreciate the strong female characters and really liked a few of the songs. I don't know when it happened but I started to really love the main villains towards the end. I cried harder for Wan Soo than anything else!
Finally! A female protagonist with a back bone and a strong will. Jee is the main reason I gave this a nine, everything else is good: solid acting, storyline and character development really made for a great watch. But to have a strong female lead that wasn’t written as overly annoying or cruel was refreshing. More like this please!
All in all, I really do like the series, but I think Type was way too violent especially towards Tharn. It was just so uncomfortable. Other than that, there were so many sweet moments. Techno was basically the best kind of best friend and I really enjoyed all the side characters. And then the ending where a couple of my favorite characters from Love by Chance made a cameo?! Loved!!!
