This was just meh. You get exactly what you signed up for: cutsey, youth series set in a school where the leads go from hate to love in 30 episodes. I'm disappointed that the side characters weren't developed more. There was gold in bad boy Lin Yi Yang and Fang Fang falling for each other that wasn't taken advantage of. And after 30 episodes (even if they are only 30 minutes), the ending still felt so rushed. You're telling me that after years of loving Si Tu Feng, attempting suicide twice and blackmailing him to marry her Xin Ya falls for Mu Nian 1 episode later?! Nope. Just no :-/
I agree with everyone here: it was a cute drama, & I've grown to love Park Min Young and Park Seo Joon as actors over the years. They've both grown a lot. The series could've ended sooner but I do like it when dramas aren't afraid to show the actual relationship once a couple gets together rather than just ending a drama right when they get together, so that was nice. I have a major pet peeve about how bad of a friend Yeong Joon was to Yoo Shik. It was very off-putting and a missed chance for a true bromance. Overall it was an okay drama but so many missed chances for it to be really something special for me :-/
I love this article and all of the recs. can't tell you how many times I finish 1 drama and then get into a slump because I cant't find another like it that gives me the same feels. I'm still on the hunt for another drama like Ugly Duckling: Perfect Match. I thought that series was the perfect blend of fluff and heart and go back to it every now and then. Any other recs like it? I've never seen SWP but the idea of a love triangle/second lead syndrome turns me off immediately:'(
Mmmm… For me I've only watched the first 7 episodes of Together With Me and I'm already a little fed up with…
It’s all down to preference I guess. But I think we can all agree that Knock is so frustrating (his character in TWM was so indecisive I almost quit watching several times)!
Ryu Hwa Young would be my #1 from this list. Like you, I loved her in Age of Youth. I forgot about her until I watched her in Father is Strange and fell in love with her and her acting all over again. Mad Dog is on my PTW simply because she's in it.
A personal favorite of mine is Kim Seul Gi. Loved her since Oh My Ghostess and eagerly await whenever she has a drama coming out!
This drama has a a humorous way of dealing with deep issues: divorce, love, work and family. It goes quick, but makes an impact all while making you root for that characters. I'd recommend it.
I agree with most people: the actress who played Eun Jae just didn't suit the role. I could tell she was trying but that weird look on her face that was supposed to be cute and shy just looked...wrong & made me cringe, & I hated that her character became stalker-ish and snappy. I think the writers got Ye Eun and Eun Jae confused and swapped their personalities. I tried to care about Jo Eun, but I just didn't, and I didn't like how the episodes were cut. It always felt like I was missing a scene or some info at the start of each ep. And I HATE that we lost Yi Na. For a drama that depends on the chemistry of an ensemble the new additions didn't make me believe in the sismance like season 1. And did we ever find out why Eun Jae and Jong Yeol broke up?! That pissed me off the most. They could've given us a quick flashback!
I thought I was the only one who recognized the driving in dramas. I just refer to it as "drama driving." Even the most climactic moment in a drama can't compare to how much I grab my couch when someone on screen does a quick U-turn or or drives onto the SIDEWALK because they're in a rush (or just arrogant and rich and do what they want).
Something I've also noticed in some dramas that kills me every time: when characters will stand in the middle of a busy intersection and have a big fight or conversation. I've seen it more in past dramas than in recent ones, but SERIOUSLY?!
This falls into the category of a drama I REALLY wanted to like, but fell very short of expectations. The first 1/3 of this drama was amazing. It was exactly what I wanted, the story was cohesive and surprised me by killing off what I thought were main characters Pei Yuan and Yan Jing Chen. But the rest of the drama slowly slid into typical drama tropes: cat & mouse romance, too many suitors/love interests, annoying revenge plots that outgrew its usefulness, a female lead that always needs saving, a scattered plot that never really found its focus again, & major plot holes that ultimately made the series feel like many dramas squished into 1. My major pet peeves? How do you kill Pei Yuan and Yan Jing Chen and NOBODY notices?! & I preferred Zhan Bei Ye to Wu Ji. IDK, I thought this would be more like The King's Woman bc of the trailer. Sadly it went in an entirely different direction. :-(
can you plz tell was the ending happy or sad? with spoiler
From what I remember there is a a long scene where everyone is pointing guns at each other. But the last few minutes came off like a dream sequence where Yoon Sung’s “dad” had in the gun standoff (Na Na shoots him) & Yoon Sung is alive and free but not necessarily with Nana... at least that’s how I interpreted it.
Typical of the genre. Not bad for a weekend drama and I'm glad I finally watched this to get it off my PTWL. I'd recommend this for a drama newbie or something. It had a bunch of cute moments, interesting side characters and there was only 1 really evil character. Not bad.
it was ok. I might have ranked it a bit higher, but my expectations were high just because of all the rave reviews. Like I said it was ok, but not as mind-blowing as some other reviewers lead me to think IMHO. There just wasn't enough substance for me to really get into the story and really root for any of the characters. And it has nothing to do with it being so short bc I've ranked shorter series than this a lot higher bc they were able to move me. Oh well...
Having seen the prequel 1st, coming into Bad Romance was a major disappointment. I have 2 major issues with BR. #1 The relationship between Korn & Knock is painful to watch. And not in the it's-so-bad-it's-good way. Their entire plotline boils down to Korn being jealous that Knock loves to flirts and Knock wanting more attention?! It got annoying, really quick. They spend 10 episodes "broken up?" over Knock's man-whoring ways, but Korn still decides to to propose in the last 10 minutes?! Ugh. #2 Yihwa's friendship with Knock and Korn is completely 1-sided. It's hard not to compare the prequel with BR, but in both series Yihwa goes to great lengths to help Korn & Knock. They even call her mom. But the same level of friendship never seems to be reciprocated. Even when she is knee-deep in her own drama, she checks in and is willing to help. The same can't be said of either Korn or Knock. The few times they do try, it feels half-hearted. IDK. After such a great prequel I was expecting a better foundation series.
If you're watching this after seeing Bad Romance: The Series, just know that Together with me is FAR better. It's a tighter story grounded in reality, and focuses on Knock & Korn rather than a larger ensemble cast like BR. By itself, this is prob my fav BL series so far. My advice? Either watch TWM after BR, or watch it as a standalone. IMHO the first series can't compete.
Solid, NON-slap/kiss romantic lakorn. I didn't know these existed!! It was so cute. It did have some tense and violent moments where it got close to going into slap/kiss territory, but thankfully never really went there. Up until the final 2-3 episodes it flowed really well. There were sad attempts to address plot holes and wrap things up with explanations that we, the viewers, never received background info about. But they felt the need to throw it in anyway. Even Karakade made a comment that the explanation was too complicated to follow and made no sense. But that's part of her charm that made the series so enjoyable.
I had unquestionable high hopes for this one. So disappointed. Loved the chemistry between the leads. I love Jung…
Same. Jung Hyuk is the only reason I rated this as high as I did. Which is sad, because I really like Jung Ryeo Won, her role in Witch's Court was awesome! But this was a let down :-/
A personal favorite of mine is Kim Seul Gi. Loved her since Oh My Ghostess and eagerly await whenever she has a drama coming out!
