Love Jang Hyuk & Jung Ryeo Won as actors & only watched to see 2 of my favs in a romance drama fall for each other. When I found out the romance wasn't going to be between the 2 actors, I was still on board & thought Jang Hyuk would be solely in a brother role with no SLS in sight. BUT THEY JUST HAD TO GO AND MAKE ME LOVE HIM! Even without my bias I thought Chil Seong's storyline was more interesting than Seo Poong's. Haven't we all seen this to death: the arrogant ML falls from grace, only to find his true love in his new more humble life? Been there, swooned, now let's move on! I know it sounds harsh, but I have grown to really dislike love triangles in my dramas, so I avoid them as a rule. There are a few dramas that have convinced me that the ML is the better choice and I rank those high. But that wasn't the case here. Adding insult to injury the the writers tried to give Chil Seong a flimsy love interest near the end as a 'consolation .' I just can't EVEN...
I tried really Really REALLY hard to like this. But I found all the characters so annoying and cruel to each other and all in the name of family. I think My Father is Strange did a better job of making unlikable characters redeemable and feel more like a family unit that actually liked each other throughout the series instead of just coming together at the end due to sad circumstances. I would have given this another point lower but the ending did get to me & make me shed a few tears.
You know the only reason I attempted to watch this was because of Lee Kwang Soo. & boy did he not disappoint! Whenever he is in a drama I know I'll end up laughing, crying and having all the feels. I've really been into ensemble casts lately and this one is a great addition to my list. My only gripe is Jung Oh. Even though I liked, understood and sympathized for her at times, I never really rooted for her. Her personality just turned me off in general. But that's just me 0:-)
This is a solid family/romance drama. Because of the high episode count there were some plot lines that I felt went on for a few episodes too long, but the large ensemble cast made it so that when one person began to annoy me I could just switch ships & root for another. Great acting, sweet plot and too many ships to count! I will say that Ra Yeong's character did a 180 for me and I ended up loving her plot line the most, which surprised me bc she was so annoying in the beginning! Now I wish there was more from her romance plot line :-/
The only good thing I can say about this drama is that it's finally off my PTW list. There was no real character or plot development, one dimensional acting and botched transitions. There were some really cute moments, but not enough to save this one, not even in a its-so-bad-its-good way. Ugh.
It surprised me how much I liked this drama, especially since I don't really like Jang Geun Suk. Coming out of a drama slump had me interested enough to give this a try and next thing I know I found myself enjoying his double role in Switch. Who knew?! But this is a drama that definitely benefits from its great ensemble cast and Jang Geun Suk's pulling double duty and nailing both roles. Hmm makes me want to give his future dramas a try without bias...but not his past works. Those I sucked(;一_一)
THIS IS SUCH A GREAT MYSTERY/CRIME DRAMA!! I get what they were trying to do for the ending BUT it just didn't satisfy me as much as the rest of the drama did. I mean, Myung Woo went to prison for life/got the death penalty (something they never specified) on Tae Wook's behalf so they could be happy together. But instead they revert back to their somber seemingly loveless marriage: Tae Wook commits suicide by car crash and Hye Ran still has the gaul to be unhappy?!?! These ungrateful people! The ending makes me regret rooting so hard for them, but the journey getting there is SOOO worth it. Oh the struggle!
I love a good time travel romance & this had all the makings of being a more mature Queen In Hyun's Man, but it just missed the mark. The chemistry was there but I had such a love/hate feel for the female lead: I didn't like how mean Yeon Kyung was to Heo Im for the first half of the series. If you can make it past that then the rest of the drama is a heart-tugging delight. But it was a struggle to get there...
By the way after I read a lot of people commenting that goblin has the same feeling I wanted to watch it, but…
Yes! I rates it 10 stars & I haven’t done that in years. I will warn you that even though there are funny moments & one of the best bromances, Goblin is more serious than Korean Odyssey in its subject matter so there is crying, from you and the characters. I still finished it with a similar feeling as Korean Odyssey, where it’s not exactly where everyone lives happily ever after but still hopeful. Idk, it’s hard to explain. I’d say try the 1st episode: it’s sad, joyful and funny all at the same time. Tell me what you think!
This was a hilarious weekend drama I finished in a few hours. Great ensemble cast & the chemistry between everyone was perfect. Be ready for a VERY strong female lead. I prefer it to a meek and submissive lead, but I wished she yelled, like, 20% less IMHO. But then again Soo Jung was the embodiment of a certain character trope, so.... My only real gripe that confused me was the fact that On Dal basically left his mom in the past. I mean, we spent 5ish eps on his character development involving his motivation to find and free his mom...and then he just sets off for modern Korea without her/without telling her he may never return? Yeah, ok....But don't think too hard about that and come for the laughs & you won't be disappointed.
This is just adorable floof with a whole lot of lol moments and some real feels at the end. I watched for Yoo Seung Ho, but stayed for the cuteness. :-)
I dropped this series about halfway through & then picked it up again a few months later. The production is amazing, the acting is solid, and the plot is refreshing. BUT, there are so many moving parts we're asked to notice and then leave for a later time it was hard to keep up (that could just be me though). And I swear I never want to hear anyone mention anything about a tape EVER again. We didn't even know what's on it for the 1st half of the series but everyone and their mom is after it (literally). There were times I wanted to go through the screen & burn the tape myself so no one could mention it anymore! I know its the linchpin of the story but I've seen other dramas do this better where its not as irritating. & the ending felt like a total cop-out. After 18 episodes you're telling me they're just gonna erase everything?! I hate when dramas do that. What was the point?! NOPE! Overall it was a nice dark, crime drama with some well executed twists, but it was lacking in something I can't quite explain for me to get really interested in it. :-/
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this drama! Life/friendship dramas are tricky: there are no romance relationships for me to ship so I have to really fall for the characters and their chemistry with one another. This did not disappoint. I can find no flaws with how any of the actors played their roles, I even felt for the villains every now and then. That's a testament to the acting. Now if only I could make this into a noona romance I'd ship Jung Hye and Soo Gyum. I mean the hints were obvious, why not!! Highly recommend for a not-so-dark comedy with a huge dose of sismance.
This drama is amazing. It gave me similar feels as when I watched Goblin: the cinematography, the love/hate bromance, the fantasy, it was so good! I was wholeheartedly invested in the side characters too. But it was the small moments that really puts this OTT. Cameos, Cha Seung Won at his comedic best, group scenes were always great, not to mention that ongoing joke about the group talk was hilarious. I even loved the ending. Even though we as an audience don't get to see Son Oh Gong and Sun Mi end up together it wasn't left as open ended as other dramas (cough Scarlet Heart). It ended with Son Oh Gong going after his girl! And did anyone else think that Oh Yeon Seo looked like Shin Min Ah at times, esp with those dimples?
I watched the Kdrama version 1st, even though I knew about the Tai version 1st. The Tai version just wasn't as good for me. I'll admit that I love Jang Hyuk & his version of the male lead, but I had high hopes for Ethan (who I loved in My Queen, which I prefer over the Korean version) & Chen Joe. I just didn't like how much of a selfish jerk Chun Xi came off as. The 1st half was solid but I think it lost me with how much longer the Tai version is. It might only look like 4 more eps than the Kdrama, but thats 4 more eps at 1 hour & 30 mins! It was meh for me. If anything it makes me want to rewatch the Kdrama!
I'm not one to be able to tolerate melos: the constant crying, drawn out revenge plots, the emotions...you know, melos! But I was going through a Jang Hyuk withdrawal awaiting the 2nd season of Voice and stumbled on this gem. I might have come for Jang Hyuk but I don't regret 1 minute of this. Usually its hard to pull off the cold, one look character without it becoming frustrating or fail bc of bad acting... but his EYES sold it for me. That and the fact that every plot was like Ocean's 11, It was well-thought out and you rarely saw it coming. I will say that once I was finished with the drama, tallying up all the DNA tests and deaths-not-deaths in the show is a bit much. But again, thats a melo for you. Loved it.
Such a disappointment. I REALLY wanted to like this one, but I just couldn't. #1 Although I love a strong & smart female lead I just couldn't empathize w/her. She was steadfast in her love 4 Chu Bei Jie, but their romance happened super quick. She literally went from trying to kill him to wanting to remain kidnapped by his side bc she'd fallen for him...after a couple scenes...in ep 2?! #2 Chu Bei Jie and Bai Ping Ting were such a selfish couple & hypocrites! Even though I know they're the "good guys" they always put their love 1st before their duties, friends, family, and child. Also, I always felt that Ping Ting never acknowledged He Xia's pain. I mean Chu Bei Jie killed his entire family. But He Xia is the villain? Sure. & towards the end they kept saying He Xia was killing innocents and leading massacres. Um, Chu Bei Jie is a general. All those soldiers he's killing to get to you, those were a lot of people with families too. #3 Bai Ping Ting had so many fake deaths it was laughable. I finished this drama because I was actually more on He Xia's side and wanted to see his happy ending with Yao Tian, They were the story for me. I've never been one to favor palace politics over romance, but they made the show for me. Even though their end was tragic I'll remember them more than the lead couple. Sorry...Not Sorry ^_^
I completely agree with Hi My Sweetheart. It holds a special place in my heart because it was one of the first dramas I EVER watched with a strong female lead. And the Pink Panther dance was everything! But that second half was an utter mess :-(
Jang Geun Suk. Coming out of a drama slump had me interested enough to give this a try and next thing I know I found myself enjoying his double role in Switch. Who knew?!
