I'm watching it for shin sung rok too and how to say it but the man never disappoints. I love when he is an evil…
Agreed. I do like to root for him, which is hard to do when he’s always a villain lol. I think his character in An Empress Dignity was a nice balance (especially towards the end). If you haven’t watched that yet, it won’t disappoint.

Does this have romance? (I don’t care about spoilers!)
No, it’s all about the crime/mystery

Seeing Moran getting heartbroken was too painful to watch
Agreed. I used to really enjoy love triangles, but the more dramas I watch the more it frustrates and pains me. (At least the good/well written ones do).

I have seen Descendants and Secretary Kim were so good. I’ll have to put the rest on my PTW. I’m so excited to get out of this slump. Thanks!

It’s been a while since I have watched this series, but I remember feeling just as frustrated! Great acting all around though! But I do wish more mature romance dramas would be made about relationships outside of school and don’t necessarily revolve around an unfair power dynamic. Any recs?

any recommendations for time travel dramas? Looking for some good ones
Both the Chinese and Korean versions of Scarlet Heart are amazing, and a more comedic version called Palace: locked jade heart is good. And if you like cute comedies A Journey was a fun two part series, but the ending was a bit meh imho. :-)

I feel the same. Cheol Jong fell in love with Jang Bong Hwan, not Kim So Yong. I wish they would make a sequel…
Or at the very least they could have used the special bonus episode to give us better closer for Jang Bong Hwan, instead of just showing how Cheol Jong and So Young met. Such a missed opportunity

Because SY was here all along. As people said on Tweeter, the writers wanted us to find Soyong. But, they failed…
I can see it now that I’ve been told what to look for. It’s unfortunate that it wasn’t clearer so I could enjoy the ending more rather than be bitter about it! Lol. Despite my feelings about the ending I still loved the show and would recommend to any drama watcher. sign of just how good it was!

In that case, that didn’t come across AT ALL for me. Maybe because there wasn’t an announced difference between BH and SY’s “voice”. BH was such a huge personality SY was literally drowned out.

Original plot, amazing acting, sizzling chemistry and a deep-feeling but hilarious watch. I loved this drama. BUT, like a lot of people I felt frustrated at the ending. And I think I know why: basically, Jang Bong Hwan in Kim So Yong's body did all the work to deserve the happy ending, but the real Kim So Yong returns to her body at the very end to reap the benefits. I would have been fine with that if we got to see Kim So Yong in Jang Bong Hwan's body and how she was working to make his life better, and her interacting with the people/relationships in Bong Hwan's life rather than a one-off scene at the end about bringing Bong Hwan's enemies to justice. But no. We got nothing. And the last scene with Bong Hwan he is alone with no one after being surrounded by characters we have come to love. We don't even get to see his rise to be a great chef again! And so, I wasn't nearly as attached to (the real) Bong Hwan's happy ending in the present. It felt hollow and unfair. I had to take away an entire star for that. For a beautifully unfolded drama that really took me on a ride (which I don't regret) that ending really killed me :-/

Between Rambo and Pree, and the weird triangle between Mo, Oat and Pop, this was a frustrating BL look at toxic relationships. Every single person treated the other horribly and made me dislike them for the majority of the series to the point that I didn't WANT to ship any couple. The series begins cute enough, but doesn't do a good enough job of mixing the darker aspects it deals with, with the cuteness it tries to maintain. And don't even get me started on the ending with Pent....so many levels of disturbing. If you need a BL fix, choose ANYTHING BUT THIS.

This took me 2 years to finish....and I don't know why. I started a few months after it was completely subbed, intent on marathoning it: I mean suggested gay relationships, full on bromances, fantasy, strong characters. I was in! But I just couldn't get into it. I kept thinking I was missing something, so I would drop it, come back, only to drop it again. IDK, I can see why people liked it but I just...didn't. And once I got to the end there were some major plot holes/questions that made me even more frustrated. If nothing else, the chemistry between all the characters was great. Other than that...

This was AMAZING! There were times when I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding from anticipation and excitement. And it stuck the landing!!! I have been let down by great dramas that just couldn't end as well as it began, but that isn't a problem for FOE. I have nothing critical to say about it: the acting was spectacular, the plot never stalled, the daughter was adorable, the romance was cute but strong, the villains were epic... Loved it! I even loved Moon Chae Won (I've never really liked her in some of the roles I've seen her in, but she won me over in this!) This drama reminds me of why I love a good mystery/thriller with romance. I wish more dramas had that combo and balanced it as well. Watch it. No matter what mood you're in you won't regret watching this...until you have to decide what to watch once its over :'-)

I’m pissed. I thought I was finally on the right ship with the OTP from the beginning: Xiao Yu & Tie Xian, especially since the second lead showed NO personality of his own for half of the series until Hua Wu befriends Xiao Yu. And I’ll admit, as much as I hated their ship, the series did a good job showing Tie Xian and Hua Wu’s growing love BUT I hated every minute. With Xiao Yu being such a big personality I just couldn’t ship the stone faced Hua Wu. And to add insult to injury, they introduced Su Ying in the last 10 episodes as Xiao Yu’s true love interest as if that’s supposed to be OK! I HATED that. Gratitude vs love is what made the final pairings, & after investing 44 episodes I’m disappointed. Other than the ships, I actually liked the coming of age/adventure aspect of the series. And that Xiao Yu was sharp and and strong in his own right. I will say the main villain story was entirely too long and some people should have been killed off much earlier. Final judgement: come for CZY and an adventure, but the love story simply wasn’t there.
This was such a push/pull to get through. For as much potential as this had it fell flat for me. I would get interested in a plot only for it to drag on or end abruptly. And Xiao Wei was a total disappointment as a character: she was from the future but never seemed to remember important milestones until it was too late to warn/do anything about it. Such a missed opportunity. And her personality was all over the place. She'd be sharp enough to figure out plots of the villains only to completely miss what was right in front of her for multiple episodes. I still can't get over the fact that she didn't forewarn her best friend about Ming Hui's evilness. That's the 1st thing you do! Even after Ming Hui concocted that intricate plan to catch the friend and crown prince having an affair. And towards the end Xiao Wei and 13th Prince talk about how she's from the future. Umm...the viewer never saw you tell him that! IDK, this one is full of frustrations, plot holes, and, apparently confessions occur that are never addressed onscreen.. .I just couldn't enjoy it once it got towards the middle. :-/

The first few eps didn't grab me, but I had nothing else I was dying to watch, so I kept with it. I'm glad I did! This was awesome. The way the love between Si Feng and Xuan Ji grew over time was adorable. Usually I hate one sided or extremely skewed love stories, BUT Xuan Ji's lack of senses explained that well enough so I accepted her actions as being due to her lack of awareness (doesn't mean I liked all of her decisions). NOW, that being said, from around episode 40ish the massive amounts of misunderstandings was annoying, the cliches were exhausting and I really didn't like Ling Long so her entire storyline was a wash for me. (And I swear they tried to kill and mortally wound Si Feng at least once per 5 eps!) But for 35+ eps I LOVED this drama. I got bored by the end and the villains' endings were kinda lame and some deaths were quick and underappreciated by the rest of the characters...BUT I still loved it
