The location of the bandits is unknown. They were going to valley bcoz that was the usual place of attack, and they had revealed that they would be carrying jewelery so they were hoping bandits would come out to loot. It was not the location where bandits lived. Moreover, with the news that jewelry stolen by bandits was actually coming to Yangzhou to be sold by Zheng, it makes more sense to focus on Zheng to find bandits whereabouts since everything is now connected to them. Even Xu Nanying, who was earlier working for Cui and Tan; now protects Zheng. Even Prince Ying came into picture. Especially bcoz the shipment of bandits is in government ship, so that means the officials, Zheng and Ying is involved. What will Yan do by going to the valley again, even if he again builds up manpower to fight them! Won't they again be intercepted by the same mole who leaked it the first time! Plus Zheng were already a culprit in tribute case. So now everything is sort of centered around the Zhengs (bandits, pearl tribute, stolen jewelry, the guild, even prince)
Well in the conversation of SMZ and YZJ, few things caught my attention a lot! 1. SMZ telling 'I care about the truth' 2. She asking YZJ if anything other than revenge matters to him! 3. What if there's a conflict (revenge and stuffs involving her)
It just reflects that she has her doubts that something went wrong that day but YZJ doesn't care to tell the truth. So that's why she doesn't hate him, but surely doesn't want to be a 'lover' and that's very much understandable. Its like there will be love but it's gonna be just in memory for her.

That shows they loved each other but still their relation was in the 'growing' phase. So the current arc will probably do the work for them!
