I was annoyed at first too but this drama gets really good for me in it's second half after twenty episodes or so when it starts the angst and the more dangerous stakes
I'm rewatching the drama again and I find every thing FDB does is just adorable also Cheng Yi real voice with his spectacular acting is beyond amazing I noticed some traits of his own real personality as cheng yi seeps through his performance sometimes
So how strong was the male lead how many times was he nerfed? For plots sake? Was he nerfed in finale also?

Sleuth of Ming Dynasty really get a lot better in its second half or after episode twenty-something , The bromance starts from there also the cases are interesting
When it was on air , this drama grabbed my attention because of the demon brother's love for each other to be clear the main couple's relationship is boring The Aquatic Demons brothers are the main story for me so I skipped most of the drama just for their story and how they were at odds yet really care about each other That's what I liked and loved Also the secondary romantic relationship was better than the main one Afu's betrayal and evilness were always for his loved one but always doing it the wrong way
This drama started heavy, sad, dark, and really intriguing I like Angst and struggles , it's not gore but it's scary with it's plot theme poison is the theme , spies and power struggle
I felt it's very appealing,, it's not summer drama it's very wintery drama It's dark, Heavy and about Royal court affairs between the royal family I think I loved Zhang Ling He That's my first drama of him he's so cute and child like , I feel his youth and young age in the way he speaks and acts
