I guess it depends on what you define as kind. Kindness to a point your are crippled by it or kindness with boundaries.…
Drama adaptations can not be very faithful to source material. I think it would have been sadder if XL didn't die beacuse his impending death and opposite cause was i guess the only reason standing between XY and him. He was a strong character and his FFB persona had charmed XY. They actually had a chance together if the war was given up.

That would have been a different story which would be less impactful and memorable than his death!!

Ultimately, life is about choices and decisions. What one person thinks is right for themselves can be wrong in the eyes of another. Maturity is realizing that there are no absolute right or wrong choices or decisions, just different points of view. Harmony comes from respecting these different perspectives and understanding that everyone’s path is unique. It’s about recognizing that each decision is influenced by individual experiences, values, and circumstances, and that respecting these differences is key to living in peace and understanding.

Say "No" to bashing 🙌

I don’t hate Jing. But, objectively speaking, I don’t think being an enemy general or letting those soldiers die was Xiang Liu’s negative point. Even in the real world, during an armed conflict, it’s tough to discern the right side. People from both sides die and are considered wrong by the other side. Regarding the futility of campaigns, if everyone thought that way, it would be a dream world with no wars. But we know that such a world doesn’t exist, not even in the 21st century, let alone in a fictional, historical time. Plus, Xiang Liu was a military advisor and not the one making the final call. Hong Jian was his foster father, and as long as he did not give up the war, Xiang Liu couldn’t either.

If Tushan Jing is appreciated because he didn’t want to go against his grandmother, why can’t we appreciate Xiang Liu’s loyalty to his foster father, who was also his savior? Tushan Jing fell in love with Wen Xiao Liu because she saved him. A similar bond exists between Xiang Liu and Hong Jian as well.

Ultimately, the story is about Xiao Yao and her choice, so bashing either Xiang Liu or Tushan Jing is futile. Both characters had their shortcomings!

I think liking one character should not mean hating another character. Every character in this story is flawed. Xiao Yao herself is a flawed character. Such hate for either Jing or XL would just foster more negative emotions in people who like them.

Fans of both characters are equally guilty of saying hateful things about the other character.

The production has very smartly achieved its purpose of dividing the people and letting more people talk about the drama😂

I like Xiang Liu not because of the actor, his sad ending, or his popularity. And I don't hate Tushan Jing either. For me, Xiang Liu's character growth throughout the story is what makes him so compelling. He started out with nothing—no family, fighting in a slave arena—and then he felt deep gratitude for his foster father, took care of Fengfeng Bei’s mother, learned to love Xiao Yao, and formed strong bonds with his soldiers. There's just so much to his character.

It’s easier to be kind when you're raised in a loving environment, like Tushan Jing. That’s why I find it more impressive when someone like Xiang Liu, who came from such a tough background, learns to feel positive emotions. Tushan Jing is a civilian, while Xiang Liu is military. Sure, Xiang Liu has blood on his hands, and his methods aren't what we’d call kind. But considering the story’s fictional, historical setting, it’s not fair to judge him by modern standards.

In real life, many girls would probably go for someone like Tushan Jing as a life partner over someone like Xiang Liu. Modern dating often emphasizes putting your partner above everything else, just like Tushan Jing did although there are some questionable things TSJ did. If both TSJ and XL's character are mixed, it would be better.

In real life, if my man kept me hanging for a long time, apparently cheated on me, and chose to let me go without any explanation, I would definitely move on. So, love-wise, I don't think Tushan Jing was exactly perfect either.

I still prefer XL as the most impressive character of the story!!

Tushan Jing's character development, while present, did not reach the depth of other characters in the story. Xiao Yao was first attracted to Ye Shiqi, not Tushan Jing. Ye Shiqi was a person without attachments, someone who followed Xiao Yao like a devoted puppy. This was exactly what Xiao Yao wanted because of her fear of abandonment and her trauma issues. When Tushan Jing returned to his family and was bound by his grandmother and fiancée, Xiao Yao was clearly unhappy during those times.

In the end, Tushan Jing had to revert to being someone like Ye Shiqi. He gave up his family for Xiao Yao to live a quiet life together. This transformation highlights how Xiao Yao's desires and needs shaped their relationship. Ye Shiqi represents the beginning of their story in Qingshui Town, and if the starting and ending person remains the same, character development inevitably suffers.

This circular development meant that Tushan Jing's character did not evolve as much as others. He began as Ye Shiqi, a devoted follower of Xiao Yao, and ended up as a similar figure, emphasizing stability and dedication rather than growth. While this constancy might have provided Xiao Yao with the security she needed, it also meant that Tushan Jing's character arc was less dynamic and transformative compared to the more complex journeys of other characters in the story

If he gave up that cause, he would be useless to the story technically, since he was never gonna end up with the girl. His character would become a stepping stone which would be even worse. He had no family, no loving relation in his life to go back to or to live for. The author created him that way.

Regarding the second thing, I agree with you that he would become Jing, which is probably why, it didn't happen in the story. XL deserved an epic ending which he got.

I really loved this story. It was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. So many fantastic, flawed characters…
I would like to add that for XL, he had nothing else going on in his life. It was not like he could give up the war and would start enjoying mundane life all of a sudden. Had XL and XY chosen to be together, ofc, he would have another purpose in life and might have given up his cause. War was all he knew. By the time he met XY, he was already too deep in it.

Even CX and XY's reunion is after the whole Qingsui Town arc.

As for TSJ, his story literally started after he met XY. TSJ's experience was enough for XY to relate to but nowhere near as traumatic as XY or XL's past experiences.

It is easier to prevent a stationary train from starting to move than to stop a moving train.

Remember the slave arena scene when FFB and XY witnessed the slave's fight. FFB says it in a self-deprecating tone when he tells XY that he came from the slave arena.

People are calling XL ruthless, cruel and blah blah. XL was dealt the worst hand in his life and still he grew to be a person who learned to love selflessly. He was never a bloodthirsty killer, even though it would make sense if he turned out to be that, given his background.

Some people are not getting over the KINDNESS Jing showed to his brother and hailing him as the green forest, noble guy. I don't undermine Jing's personality but at the same time, i would say, that XL also did very well, given his past experiences.

CX, XY and XL all three experienced traumas while they were very young. TSJ was not only an adult, but also had a good background. I commend TSJ for not choosing the vengeful path but this is exactly the point. He was an adult who COULD respond to his trauma in a positive way and being with XY also influenced him.

I say start a new story with XY's descendant and XL. Since he has died in this story, let him reincarnate or something
Yeah it would be interesting. Chubby cultivating to get a human form and reuniting with a reborn XL. This time accompanying a kid XL.

TSJ became XY's choice as she saw him as a light in her life. XY had seen very dark times and TSJ was equivalent to that bubbly, naive, optimistic female characters that we read about in the stories where they tame villains.

XL also needs some lively character in his life to bring him out of his depression. Who better than someone from XY's line. Plus XY and TSJ would definitely bring up their kids in a loving family.

I thought the same at one point. Why couldn't he go through a peaceful route? Why couldn't the resistance army be re-assimilated in the society?
Somebody in the comments very aptly said that their resistance had gone on for too long. They couldn't turn back. Even in the real world, so many armed conflicts are going on over geographical territories and such.

XL had a debt of gratitude plus he had bonded with army as well. Watch the scenes where he is looking over the camp.

He would not leave his fellow soldiers to die. This was not his character.

Are you saying that you don't think Jing's actions were motivated by his own desires?
In the wedding example, it was not only TSJ who wanted to take her away. It was XL's wish as well. Even if TSJ had not asked him, XL would have eventually stopped her wedding. XY had literally asked for his help by sending that crystal ball.

TSJ asking XL to do that infact gave XL a good excuse to hide his own love for XY.

Regarding Jing's assistance in CX's career, Jing only did so because he was XY's brother.

In his life, TSJ's bottomline is XY. The people who XY love, he would love them as well and vice versa.

"A less noble person would call his moves stupid but it would be nice if we lived in a world where his actions…
'Sorrows other than love's longing does this life provide

Comforts other than a lover's union too abide'

TSJ is an ideal because his whole life revolved around loving his woman. In real life, there are other responsibilities. So I agree with the author.

As the story progressed, XY's feelings for TSJ definitely grew deeper and hence the bugs retaliated.

Plant two seeds side by side. Water one while ignore the other. Obviously the seed being taken care of, would sprout early, grow into a lush tree. The ignored seed might also sprout but not necessarily flourish as much as the seed you are taking care of so meticulously. XY's love for TSJ was exactly like that. She cultivated her feelings with him.
I would say that XL intentionally poisoned his seed in her heart. How would it grow!!
