I have a question that will probably spark a lot of debate. And I would like the people that answer to be objective.…
Love can be both a "conscious" and "unconscious/subconscious/unintended/unexpected" decision. If there was no conscious love then all the arranged marriages in the world would have fallen through. No love marriages would happen without the unconscious type of love.
XY was a lucky girl that she had the opportunity to experience both kinds of love. One's past influences one's decisions. And her past experiences pushed her towards choosing that conscious love.
No. In real life, a girl would realize that Jing was a stalker, who couldn't keep a promise to save his life,…
A woman can be with one man only. There is no questioning it. The ending is very reasonable excluding the fact XY would misunderstand XL for life, which was why probably XL did not confess his feelings to her.
That beach scene was pretty early in the story, right after they left Qingshui Town. XY was not in deep love with TSJ at that point. We forget that XL also had a troubled and traumatic past. Unlike XY, who could confide her feelings to XL and TSJ, XL had no such person nor was his persona set up like a guy who would speak his heart out. His cold, indifferent behaviour was a facade to keep people out and nobody tried to see beyond that except maybe XY later in the story.
Imagine you are in the position of XL, you love a girl, you are looking for some kind of sign if she has feelings for you as well but she outright rejects you in a brutal way, would you harbour hope for that girl to be together with you? XL was never set up to be a person who could communicate his feelings. If it was his story, he would have been set up with a female lead who would probably influence his personality but it was XY's story not his. Nevertheless, he was a smart person and he knew that he was not XY's type since XY had stated her preferences multiple times. He had to back down and chose not to act on his feelings. Also his character was more mature than XY. They wouldn't have worked out if the author did not make major changes to the story.
I love the most about this drama was there is a balance of importance of each character however towards the end,…
TSJ was setup to be a quiet, calm, kind and stable character. XY actually liked his YSQ persona more so if he became more like TSJ, it would have diminished the basis on which he was initially liked by XY. During the hypnotherapy session, she clearly doesnot answer the question of marrying TSJ but says Yes to marrying YSQ which shows her bias. As both TSJ/YSQ are the same characters and very few people know TSJ as YSQ out of Qingshui Town so YSQ's name is not used later. But obviously XL knows.
No. In real life, a girl would realize that Jing was a stalker, who couldn't keep a promise to save his life,…
It's not only the stalking like feeling. He just kept hovering around her. XY's feelings for Jing were not that deep when he extracted the promise from her to wait for him and he knew that. And later goes on to renege on his own promise. He has a problematic character relationship-wise. With that kind of promise, any morally good woman would not accept the advances of another man as XY tried to do as well. XY clearly had chemistry with XL otherwise she would not have refused his kiss. She knew that she could fall for XL. She effectively denied her feelings. I feel as if XY was not given that space to explore what she truly felt.
We can condone his stalking action if we want to, by saying that XY never made him feel secure so he kept tabs on her, but he also didnot make XY feel secure, by continuing his engagement. No woman would feel secure knowing that the man she loves has a fiancee.

Jing actually knew that he was drugged but since it was his grandmother, he chose to follow through with the plot. XY was hurt even more by this since she had taught him medicine. This is messed up at so many levels, if it happened in the real world, it's nearly impossible to re-build trust in that relationship.
I also think that XL never tortured with the intent of torturing when he realized his feelings for her. XL was a demon, an enemy general, a being with an equally, if not more traumatic past than XY.

If it's the modern world, firstly; it's very difficult to find XL like character. Secondly, I never explicitly said that I would choose XL. I would definitely choose XL's like love, probably not XL himself if he is the so-called "torturer" in the real world.
About Jing's thing, if a man I love leaves me for a woman, no matter the circumstances, the plot or not, I would let that man go. I would move on. In the drama TSJ came to know of this plot after quite a long time. He actually believed that he had fathered the child. Since it was a story world and their lives were long so they both could wait. Nobody waits for that long in the real world. That's exactly why communication is so important. Jing like characters can be found commonly in the real world.
I agree with your last statement. Many people choose stable love and relationships over flirts or flings with whom they probably have more explosive chemistry.
Love doesn't always require effort. It just happens sometimes.
Thanks for clarifying! I feel as if XL's character became the most popular and well-executed. He should have gotten his own story. LYF is XY's story through and through. Her journey, Her choices

I am team YaoLiu all the way but the author set up the story to always push XY towards TSJ. Everything that XL did for her, somehow, never made it to the light of the day

There would be no such character like XL in real life. That's the whole point. He is too much of a storybook lover who kept on loving silently, selflessly and even gave up his many lives for it.
