Most Kdrama female leads who are not a Chaebol heiress are terribly dressed from my experience.
Not to mention, they also have the ugliest hairstyles. Some name that comes to mind are -> Ku Hye Sun in BoF, Lee Yeon Hee in Reunited World, Park Boyoung in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, etc.
I don't think Just Between Lovers is an under appreciated drama but that's just me  Be Melo got considerable…
I think Korean commercial acclaim matters infinitely more than International popularity. Because let's face it, most international viewer prolly watch these Kdramas off of sites like kissasian (i.e no revenue there) since they're not on streaming services like Netflix and their money comes from within domestic not outside. Just Between Lovers generated zero hype in SK and averaged subpar viewership of about 1% throughout its run. Hence it massively underperformed.
Be Melodramatic is indeed on Netflix but it also generated mediocre ratings in SK itself. And mostly ranked last in its timeslot throughout its run.
I also found "Be Melodramatic" to be one of the best of the year. I loved it all—writing, acting, music, and…
It's actually on Netflix already. It got added in February this year IIRC. And definitely, I guess it was expected though because it was not your typical Kdrama filled with tropes. It was unconditionally different.
I do not think Graceful Family's underappreciated. AT ALL. It achieved sky high viewership when it aired and received huge critical and commercial acclaim.
I definitely agree with Chocolate. Such a poignant drama but didn't receive much attention when it aired.
My list:
1. Be Melodramatic Amazingly written drama. Every character develops consistently, including the supporting characters, which is an incredibly rare sight in Kdrama world. It was also elevated by scenes that had the sense of verisimilitude as a slice of life. There's so much depth here. My personal favourite scenes involved the supporting characters played by Lee Joo Bin and Kim Myung Jun. But the idiosyncrasies involving all the main characters were amazing too. Definitely a huge recommendation from me. I'd rate this 10/10.
2. Diary of a Prosecutor This is another poignantly written slice of life lead by a stellar cast. It's one of those dramas that just captivates and pulls you in and never lets go from the get go. Definitely a huge recommendation.
3. Just Between Lovers (aka Rain or Shine) One of the most relatable melodramas I've seen. It's sombre, dark and full of life. Not just that but the lack of stereotypical characters and tropes makes this a must watch for anyone. There's not a lot of dramas like this one.
She caught my eye after she starred in Davichi's MV for 오늘따라 보고싶어서 그래. After that I watched a stream of dramas starring her -> Secret, Big Man, I Hear Your Voice etc.
My fave role by her though is in Search:WWW. Her role in Search:WWW is a type of female role never done in Kdramas before. Rich, smart, sophisticated and to top it off brutal and tomboyish!
BL is a separate genre for me where there's no labeling based on gender. There's rarely any BL where characters…
That's fair enough. But as a bisexual guy myself I personally don't see a problem here. I personally don't like labels either. I fall for who I fall, I am not particularly fond of calling myself bisexual either. Gender of the person I'm attracted to is inconsequential for me. But I understand what you mean.
I guess MekBoss is just a traditional secret love story, which we've had plenty. Meanwhile we still don't know…
The story's not what my problem with MekBoss is, but rather the actors don't match each other at all. And the guy who plays Mek is really awkward to look at due to his terrible dubbing (like I mentioned, his lips never match the lines, so it comes off unnatural and lacking in any feeling). It'd been so much better if they had casted someone who actually speaks the language in that role. Another problem with Mek is that he looks pained almost always during his scenes, he has this frown on his face and he looks like he'll cry any moment. It's just not cute anymore, in fact it never was.
This series was going so well, and then Bohn had to go and say: "I don't like men. I only like Duen." Seriously??…
BL is a separate genre for me where there's no labeling based on gender. There's rarely any BL where characters go "I'm gay" or "I'm bisexual", they just fall for people of the same gender. This also explains why in BL shows, almost everyone's gay too. So I actually think of this as a progression compared to being labelled gay/straight/bi. Because it gives you an impression of "You fall for who you fall", no one's restricted to any gender based on labels.
Just watched episode 6 and am a bit disappointed about the back and forth in the story. It is annoying, that in…
Fong and Bohn are both described as devious and unamiable by others. So what you saw of Fong in episode 6 is how he is actually. He has fallen for Duen, it's the only reason why he treats him gently and more kindly.
As for Duen being unwilling. It's actually reasonable. His father doesn't seem like someone who'd support them + there's the societal stigma too (for e.g in episode 1 or 2, how the girl treated them rudely because Bohn kissed Duen on the cheek). So even though he likes Bohn, he's hesitant to jump into this relationship.
I think people are gravitating toward RamKing because, unlike many couple we're seeing nowadays, there isn't a…
The Ram-King couple is actually quite different in the source material iirc than the series. Ram is like a head taller than King and King's a tad more childish. But yes, I actually really like the portrayal in the show a bit more. Not to mention Ram's only silent when he's with King, it's kinda like how people get shy when in front of people they like. I like that idea lol
2gether and this are definitely the best Thai BL of the year. I'd like this one a tad more if they decreased the Mek-Boss scene and inserted more Fong-Thara scenes though. I'm sorry, but I'm not feeling Mek-Boss at all, especially with how awkward Mek's actor looks with the dub voiceover when his lips don't even match what he's saying. And I smell a lot of potential in Fong-Thara relationship too.
Not to mention, they also have the ugliest hairstyles. Some name that comes to mind are -> Ku Hye Sun in BoF, Lee Yeon Hee in Reunited World, Park Boyoung in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, etc.

Maybe it's region locked?
