I was walking my dog the other day, a young fox cub popped up across the street and stared at us for a while. We stopped for a moment, then walked on. When I looked back, he'd crossed over and started following us and did so for a few blocks. He'd ventured out onto the sidewalk, I guess he'd lost his parent and was hungry. My dog normally barks at foxes, but not this time. I had nothing to give him, but was happy for him to tag along until I got home so I could give him some food. When I looked behind one last time he'd vanished, it broke my heart, but was probably for the best.
