I agree, loved the anime but in this adaptation the female lead lacked something, I think the male lead did well though. There was just something missing overall it was kind of an effort to get through the whole movie.
Trying to decide whether to watch this as the original is one of my fave dramas of all time. Can anyone tell me whether this is good/different enough that I won't be constantly comparing & be disappointed?
I really enjoyed this. It's not my usual cup of tea and really only gave it a go because of Toma and I'm so glad I did. It was beautiful and twisted. Completely over the top in places but actually sort of thought provoking. And of course, Ikuta Toma was excellent, his acting is just on another level.

Not commenting on the manga but just find it interesting the differences in culture/societal norms. 16 in UK is legal age of consent and imo definitely not a child. That age difference and father figure thing though is a different story!
I love this show so much, although disclaimer I only watched AePete and TinCan because I was worried about the references to rape from the other couple. My god though the chemistry between Ae & Pete!! I sometimes get annoyed with some BL dramas because although the romance is sweet at least one of the couple seem reluctant to be intimate which I think is very unrealistic and if there are kisses they are like stunned open eyed ones. These guys though seemed like a proper couple who were both affectionate with each other, in love and wanted to be together emotionally and physically which any normal couple would want. There wasn't too much angst and I liked how Pete was gay not 'gay for you' type of thing & I think it's pretty clear that Ae was actually already gay but had not met anyone he liked before Pete. I'll stop rambling now but this would have been a 10 if not for having to avoid watching the other couples.
I'm not sure if my expectations were too high or maybe I just enjoy more mature content but I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. This was sweet but the things that kept me from being able to get into it were 1: The hazing, it was a main focus of the show, it seemed over the top and I don't get how humiliating people, forcing them to exercise to the point of exhaustion & injury (regardless of whether you buy medicine for them after), and having it interfere with their actual education because they pass out on their desks teaches them anything. It seemed like it was just for the amusement of the hazers & like a show of power (I might be sensitive to this due to personal stuff). 2: The romance was generally good but I dislike the whole 'gay for you' trope & the kisses were lack luster. 3: I'm not sure if I missed something but there were some bits that were maybe continuity problems, like Kong taking off the string that Arthrit put on him but then it was back and he said he wouldn't take it off because Arthrit tied it on, but surely if it was back after he took it off he must have tied it back himself? Because of the rating and people's reviews I'll definitely watch it again in case I missed something but on first watch I'm a bit confused at why so many people think this is the best Thai BL.
