Oh God! This is horrible. I actually liked Xia Jingshi from the novel much more. If these rumours are true then the tragic fate of the Princess in the novel was much better. They stripped away the dignity of the characters. I hope these remain just rumours and never manifest π€π€
But I don't understand the hate/dislike for Xia Jingshi & Feng Xiyang. They are deeply flawed characters,…
Major Spoilers Ahead!!!!
Oh Wow! Did they really change the ending of the princess? π€π€
I was so hurt by the ending. The book Xia Jingshi has a lot of baggage and he is a lot more gentle with the Princess but it is always out of duty. In the end, he builds that structure for her, which means somewhere, in his heart, he acknowledged her too, but his heart is too damaged to recognise real affection.
Xia Jingshi turns into a tragic character. Even after all his faults, I can't hate him because his life becomes the 'punishment' for the crimes he committed.

The princess is gullible and immature and so she will learn harsh lessons. I know about the 'death camp' angle and the sacrifice of the citizens. Very wrong and despicable. But there are hidden layers. I've read the book and it's pretty complex. Can't give out spoilers π But I'm waiting for the character design this show has for Xia Jingshi and Feng Xiyang. That's why I'm waiting for the show to finish airing. And other reasons why I can't hate those is because of the book. It's pretty sad and tragic.
Today's episodes left me in pieces again! Ah Feng Suige! You have never had a single soul who cared about you…
But I don't understand the hate/dislike for Xia Jingshi & Feng Xiyang. They are deeply flawed characters, yes, but that is the journey they're going through. It will take the story forward.
Xia Jingshi is very, very complex because that is how the life-long abuse has shaped him into.
Feng Xiyang was so sheltered and protected that she only saw the world through pink-tinted glasses (everything being righteousness and perfect)
Their relationship arc is, What happens when these two polar opposites are drawn together, by circumstances?
Wow! The writers didn't disappoint. I'm loving Xia Jingshi and his personality that's being revealed to us in…
Hey guys, is anyone interested in reading a fan fic about Xia Jingshi? Don't come at me ok π but I'm seriously obsessed with him. He's my guilty pleasure ππ€ͺ
(P.S. This fan fic that I want to write is purely for fun and to beta test my writing skills. Constructive criticisms are always welcome π
Those who are too serious about the character or hate him, kindly do not spam me with hate post, ok.βοΈ)
Wow! The writers didn't disappoint. I'm loving Xia Jingshi and his personality that's being revealed to us in layers. ππ I'm in love with his villainess π
He's going to use Princess Feng Xiyang to keep Feng Suige under control, maybe even try to get Fu Yixiao back to him.
I knew FSG & FYX will have to endure hell, but it's going to be even worse this time because now they're going to hurt for each other. The sister will also add to major pain for FSG if they take that aspect from the book. π€«
I love Fu Yixiao. She's my champion. ππ Damn! Haven't been so enraptured by a female character since a really long time.
Also, 'Da Hongza, Wo Aie Niyaaa'... πππ Damn! This man is pure husband material. That punch to the face of the Death Camp leader, it was delivered at such a perfectly timed moment. π I'm in love with FSG's ruthlessness. I would've punched that leader a few more times.
And I've suddenly realised, I'm in love with all the main characters here. This show has officially made me a fanatic ππ
Awesome analysis π§! As for XJS, I donβt think FXY stand a chance to have an affect on him. My guess is that…
Yeah. That guy has a lot of potential. He plays difficult characters and delivers each time but I wish those characters to be well written. I don't mind if Chen He Yi portrays negative characters, but at give him fully-fleshed characters. He deserves it.

Thanks for patiently reading my analysis ππ
But um, that poisoning thing is another mystery. Who poisoned him and why?
I wish Xia Jingshi is not typecast as a cardboard cutout villian. The more interesting the 'Antagonist' , the more agency the main characters will have. π€
Chen Zhe Yuan finally got a script + character that lets his acting skill shine. OMG!!! He's so perfect in his imperfections - the ruthless 1st prince, valiant warrior, cruel task master, strategist extraordinaire and yet his vulnerabilities make him so humane, his imperfections resonate with 'US', the target audience. His childhood trauma, the pain, loneliness, constant conspiracies and all the betrayal - It's a miracle he's turned out to be such a strong person. Anyone less fortunate would've become insane long agoππ.
I watched Li Qin for the first time in 'WAR OF FAITH' and I was very impressed with her acting. This is her second show that I'm watching and I think she's even better here. This lady rocks as Fu Yixiao - 'The Red Clad General' whose only mistake was to trust her saviour. She literally goes to hell and back, being saved by her enemy, tortured, broken, yet learning to swim against the current, again. ππ
And about the major conflict of the story - 'The consequences of one's choices', which brings me to Xia Jingshi.
This character was introduced to us as a prince of an enemy kingdom but as his layers are exposed, only this single question keeps us glued to him - What does Xia Jingshi truly desire? It is definitely NOT Fu Yixiao. He's fooling himself too.
Xia Jingshi is a complex character who fought for his kingdom for years, risking his life at every turn? He oscillates effortlessly between a love-sick, young and vulnerable prince to a cold and ruthless royal who can sacrifice his pawns anytime, if it suits his purpose.
The most pivotal scene of today is the confrontation scene between the four characters, which includes the Princess , Feng Xiyang - A character through which we, the viewers, are shown how ignorance, obsession and illusion can bring in massive downfall, not only to oneself but to everyone else who cares. She is also a major part of the core conflict in the story, the reason that will determine the choices of the main leads - FSG & FYX.
My expectation -
The Trigger - Feng Xiyang will either make or break Xia Jingshi. If he chooses her, then he gets a redemption arc, if not, his ending will be brutal. Not a physical death but something far darker.
The Resolution - Due to Feng Xiyang's choices in episodes 17 & 18, Feng Suige and Fu Yixiao will have to face their darkest fears. And those choices will leave them either permanently damaged or healed and how it will affect their world.
(P.S. If you've read this far, thanks for your patience at my ramblings ππ )
I'd love that. π€ͺ
It will hurt the show, otherwise. ππ

Those two scenes where Fu Yixiao is bracing for the impact on Feng Suige after hearing her out
And the confrontation between Murong Yao and Feng Suige.
Devastatingly perfect!!! Can this show get any better ππ I'm so spoiled now.
They gave every character a well-rounded arc. Secondary characters are not just for enhancing the Main Characters journeys ππ

She's intelligent, skilled, capable of great tolerance and also has very strong protective instincts. That speech she gave to the courtesan, it was incredible. Most people when they get hurt or betrayed in love, blame themselves or their fates. But it isn't the fault of the victim, it is always that toxic person at fault, who hurts you. Thanks Fu Yixiao π€©π

Such well written characters, hats off to the writers π€©
